Holy Diagon Alley Batman!

Barely can be a great source for whit. Or so I hear.::yes:: But I am more a fan of the hops.

But I have to be honest with you. Sometimes I get ticked off that my Fitbit Flex won't unlock my front door or allow me to buy beer with a swipe of my wrist. It's pretty good at reminding me just how many unactive minutes I had today, though. Pfffft!

I hear that a lot of those things won't open doors or buy beer. ;)

And on the + side of things....I read that they were running both sides of Gringotts today, hence increasing capacity and knocking the wait down to 270 minutes.:thumbsup2

I am not a fan of Harry Potter, but I seriously am rethinking my Disney vacation to visit Universal. This looks amazing!!

When I hear "Universal is kicking their butts" I don't translate that to mean "They are making more money than Disney", but that they are doing what WDW used to be known for, better than WDW at this current time. Capturing theme park purists with technological innovation and theming immersion. WDW used to be the leader in this regard but when it comes to new lands and ride technology, I'm not sure that can be argued honestly right now. Plus I think people are impressed with the rate Universal is adding attractions and value and a bit annoyed at the rate WDW is moving.

Now it can be argued that WDW doesn't need to do anything impressive right now because of how their overall numbers look, while the competitors need to step up their game, and that might be where the topic becomes the most divisive. Being satisfied with what WDW offers because for the longest it has offered so much vs thinking WDW can do so much better because it has in the past, plus that little competitor down the street is now inspiring the excitement that used to be just exclusive to WDW.

Disney has built up a cache of nostalgia and mindshare amongst the public that won't be cracked by a few new rides, lands, or IP acquisitions from a rival. But when the response to "Universal sure is kicking Disney's butt right now" is "Disney makes more money," then it sounds like words from a stock holder and not a theme park enthusiast. Disney practically markets itself, and that has happened because of decades of brilliance, which at this point is Universal's biggest hurdle, imo, not WDW's current output.

I can't count how many times I've heard or read people talking about the new Harry Potter world and believing that it was a new land/park at Disney, because in the past, this new exciting land, ride, park experience WOULD have been at Disney. I guess that's a compliment to Disney in a lot of ways. But it's also further proof that Universal is doing what Disney does best (except maybe in marketing? LOL).

I think Universal is doing a bang up job right now and for maybe the first time ever, WDW is starting to take notice. Not panic, but at least consider that if Universal continues expanding at this rate, leading the theming/technological/excitement race in Orlando, then that market share they have never gave a second thought to may begin slipping. And that undoubtedly would be a win for Universal, even if they never approach the overall numbers of Magic Kingdom.

I may be in the minority but I am actually excited about Avatarland, mostly because when I first saw the movie my first thought when I got home was to write a blog post about how Pandora would make the perfect theme park land. It's too beautiful and cool to fail, imo, even if people don't like the movie. And Star Wars Land, I'm sold if and when that comes. I'm rooting hard for Universal to continue to do what they are doing so that WDW does feel a little sweat for once. It'll only improve the Orlando destination as a whole.

This may have already been addressed, but why does it take so long to add additions to WDW. Avatarland is not going to open until 2017 (please correct me if I am wrong)They started on the new fantasyland/mine train long before Diagon Alley even broke ground and it was up in a little over a year. What is the problem here. Transformers was added last year and there are strong rumors of an updated King Kong attraction. I love WDW, it is one of my favorite place on earth but they are seem contend to drift along. The new Fantasyland was the newest addition in years, Toy Mania is the only new thing in MGM in years and Soring is same at Epcot. For the amount they charge for tickets, food and parking alone they should be adding something new every two years instead of throwing away money on these darn MBs. Land is not a problem because they have not even put a dent in the land that Walt bought.

Why do they take so much longer ? Lots of reasons. Disney is a complex beast, to say the least. There's some detail around that very question in the "Disney, Why...?" thread linked in my signature, below. Check it out and see if it helps answer it just a bit....

Threads like these are making re-evaluate our trip to at least consider throwing a Universal Day in there. Wife and I are both major HP geeks.

We are traveling TODAY :cool1: and have decided to do one day at Universal along with our 4-day Park Hoppers. I know it will be INSANE there with the new part of the HP attraction, but we don't care! I'm the main HP geek in my family, but the rest are big Super Hero geeks, so we'll all get what we like.

Shows how people are different,I live in Miami and it bores me,I don't do clubs or go drinking, the beach is fine but I prefer water parks and aside from that all people do here is go to the mall.As far as the keys,I haven't been to the Keys in like 10-12 years.Seems like I'm living in the wrong place as I do like 8-10 Orlando trips a year.

Yeah...
You got the wrong zipcode.

Are you an active/outdoorsy type?

This is the root question at wdw...

You nailed.

And the real problem is the answer is obvious and far too many customers are busy making excuses when they deep down recognize the truth.

PlutoMars, in the summer of 2012, I went to DL/CA specifically to see Carsland. Radiator Springs Racers did not open that day (my one day in the parks). A line of CMs were at the entrance apologizing and handing out...Cars stickers. We took a break and struck up a conversation with some other guests who had paid full admission on a blackout date just to see the new attraction (which had been open several months). They were local. They were livid.

This is not an exclusive to Universal problem. Give it a rest.

But if Universal is the new standard in innovation/technology as we have been repeatedly told and better than Disney then they shouldnt be having the same issues as Disney now should they?

The obvious question is why did they rush opening an attraction that wasnt ready to be opened yet.

And more specifically, why did they allow people in line for Gringotts this morning telling people it would be open at 9am and now just have it up and running at 11am? Now the posted wait time is like 7 hours.

Just from a business perspective, sure, Disney is a large organization. So are others. Other large organizations get things done timely.

If the Disney structure is too complex, then it needs changing.

The job has to get done. Everything else is just excuses.

Also meant to add that my comment was not directed at the person to whom I replied. It's just a comment in general.

Have you ever managed anything? Nothing is ever perfect 100% of the time. These are mechanical devices. They malfunction sometimes.
