I have DING at home but am unable to install it at work due to the need for administrator rights to run the process. I have seen quite a few DING rates that are released but when I finally see them when I go home for lunch (or get home from work in the afternoons) all of the DING rates are already 'sold-out'.

Ok, that leads me to my question: is it possible to access the listing of DING rates and book a reservation without having the DING program on that computer? For instance, if someone posted the link that opens for the DING rates, would I be able to access that information? (I'm thinking no, but I haven't tried it, so I'm not certain).

I just hate that I got such a great deal on the return trip, but the fare going to MCO is over double.

I have a DING installation problem at home. I have done everything suggested with firewall, etc but upon installation, after adding my ID number I get the message that installation cannot be completed because SWA server cannot connect to my computer. Also tells me to try again later, but it never works. Tried downloading again and getting another ID number, but even that does not work. I don't think the backdoor would work for me since my understanding is you use what you have at home for access at another location and since my home feature is not working....... :confused3 Anyone have any suggestions? I have an Italian internet provider, but use IE. I really need a DING and know Norfolk comes up alot (which is where I would fly from). :thanks:

I cannot downlaod DING at work, so I want to try this "method". I copied the URL to notepad & e-mailed it to myself at work. What do I do with it?? Paste it in my internet browser & leave it up all day?? Sorry, I'm confused & would hate to miss a good deal. Thanks!! :scratchin

Have you tested your link? Which URL did you mail to yourself? The one you edited with your id #s? Once you have the link set up properly all you need to do is paste it in your browser. You may need to do this several times per day until a ding is posted. If there is a active ding sale you should see several lines of active ding links. Those lines follow the double lines announcing the sale & purchase by deadline. You then copy the active ding link into a browser window and bring up the list of dings with the buttons to purchase.

The first URL brings up a web page which I think contains the source code for the little box you get when you click on the SW envelope icon. You then manually bring up the booking web page when you copy & paste the active ding link. Make better sense?

From Southwest email

Februray 27, 2006

Happy Birthday To...

DING!DING! is turning one tomorrow, and Southwest is throwing a party. And we all know you can't have a birthday celebration without party favors, so make sure you download DING! before tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28, and we'll cake on the savings with ridiculously low DING! fares in every Southwest market.

DING! is the first-ever "direct link" to airline Customers' computer desktops, delivering discounted fares to a variety of Southwest destinations. To take advantage of these super low DING! fares, download DING! before February 28, 2006.

Maybe they've been skimping on the after March dings in preparation for this party. :teeth:

Carolyn~

I tested the URL I sent & it came back as a Southwest window, but said cannot view at this time, try again in a few minutes. Could this because there are no current DING specials out there??? :confused3

That is usually what it means but that isn't how it works for me. Are you using the url you copied from an active ding? Each offer has an individual identifier. You edit the link provided in the flyertalk faq to use your id# & cksum#. When you use that edited link you should get a web page with the offer information. You then copy the activation link and paste it into another window. If you use the url from a former offer I don't think you'll get the current offers.

This is what I'm getting now when I use my backdoor link.

When an offer is released there is additional information on the page. You might want to go back and read the instructions again on the flyertalk faq.

I'm hoping that tomorrow for the Birthday party they will put out some DING rates for some of the more booked flights. Every DING that has come out for my date in March has been "unavailable" but they have recently added some other "Special Fares" and "Discounted Fares" that are about $10 less than the "Refundable Fare", which I have currently booked. I'd love to get the $69 rate I got for my return trip!
