OK, need to ask a question. My hubby and I are celebrating our ten year anniversary this year and want to go away for a long weekend without the kids. Has anyone stayed at HH without kids, and not MISSED them? I am worried that with all the Disney-theming....I might miss both Disney World and the kids. We go away for short little weekend trips without the kids, so it is not like we haven't left the kids before....but never have we gone to DVC resort without them....so just wondering what people thought of HH for a romantic getaway???? What is there to do in the area? Nightlife? Spas? Theater?
any help will be appreciated!!!!
Thanks!

You won't need to feel guilty, HHI is not like the resorts at WDW. It is very nice, CM's are great, but there is no theme park nearby. I would say it would be perfect for a romantic get-away. I don't remember seeing a spa or theatre, but you could do a search for Hilton Head Island and see what there is to do on the island.

Hilton Head would be a wonderful place for a romantic getaway. As for the Disney Theming - there are not alot of "mouse" stuff around. Of course there are the obligatory cut outs in the balcony railings and stuff, but no overwhelming mouse presence. The feel of the resort is more of a secuded low country getaway.

As for theaters, I believe I have seen two on the island. One is on the main highway and the other I think was on Main Street. But the sign on the highway could have been for the one on Main Street.

As for nightlife, just tell the CM what type of place you want, and I am sure they can point you in that direction. You didn't say when you planned on going. Life is a little slower right now as it is off season, but things will pick up again come spring and summer.

Spas? I can't specifically name one, but I am sure that there will be one somewhere on the island. Especially with all the high end golf resorts on the island. The golf-widows have to do something while hubby (of maybe even wifey) are on the greens.

Have a wonderful trip. I would be green with jealousy if we weren't taking the members cruise for the exact same reason. :) :)

I have the same concerns. We will have, after closing, 75 banked points and my DH and my 15th anniversary is in July ummmmm???? Just kidding, July 7th. We got married on 07-07 at 7 p.m. I thought it would be easier for him to remember that. LOL. Anyway , I can't decide if we want to do that (a romantic getaway to HH) which I know, it will probably be hard to get a reservation so that was my other thought, should we take the kids for Easter or as soon as they get out of school (May 24)? I didn't mean to jump in here , but I was thinking about the same thing, whether we would miss the kids and think "well the kids would have fun doing this too" kind of thing. I know, mbw12, everyone must think we're crazy! Thanks for posting this.

The Disney touches at HH are very subtle - enough that you feel at home, but not so much that it's always obvious. I think HH would make a great getaway! I highly recommend the Dolphin Cruise booked through the resort. We were the only guests on our cruise and got SO close to the dolphins. We brought a cooler along with refreshments and had a blast!

While I haven't been to HH without the kids I have been to WDW and taken the Disney cruise without them. Didn't miss them a bit. :earboy2:

Have fun!! HH is a beautiful place!

Hilton Head Island is absolutely perfect for a getaway. DH and I went last year for our 10th anniversary. Lovely places to stroll, restaurants of every type and price point, beautiful accomadations, sightseeing (old plantation, lighthouse, etc), shopping, etc. Just across a little footbridge from the resort is a shopping/dining area. We noticed that 2 or 3 of the restaurant/bars had live music or entertainment in the evenings - seemed to be a range of anything you would have in mind: one had jazz, one rock music, etc.

This may sound pretty stick-in-the-mud but our favorite was to sit on our balcony with some wine and cheese and just talk. We were both pretty stressed out from work so the peace and quiet was just what we needed to reconnect.

I highly recommend a 1 bdr so you can have the jacuzzi. And don't forget A Private Affair with Chef Gordon - well worth the money!!
