Yay for a DIS meet! :cool1:

Denny has been very slow to come around to the DIS meet concept. The worst was last summer when we were at the beach and a DISer happened to be on the Rehoboth Boardwalk while we were having dinner one block a way. I got up and left the entire table of my family and my friends to go say "hi" to her. My friends thought is was horrible.

I have a lot of meets planned for October and when I started telling Denny about them he seemed a little overwhelmed. His response, "This is my vacation, too." :rotfl2: Muwhaha - that's what he thinks!

Love that you and Nanette got to meet up. Always fun living vicariously through others' trip reports, and now we can meet others vicariously through you.

My husband would dread any meet ups if he knew I had planned a trip around them. That said, he was all for meeting Teena on our last trip and a great sport following me around as we scoped out the BC lobby looking for her.

Meeting at the GGS kiosks is a natural choice for a meet-up spot!

(and finally, love the cartoon of the day!)

Loving the report Dee. And like all of you can relate to our interweb relationships.

At one time when I started a sentence with "I met this lady on internet.....I would get a funny look. :scared1:

Now. Nothing.

Bahaha, that comic is classic and totally appropriate. AND it has "Goose" in the title. :thumbsup2

Grey Goose Slushie, I completely approve. :drinking1

It's so funny to read this update as I was just saying the same thing about the real friendships through the DIS.

So glad you got to have your meet! :goodvibes

But neither compare to the Sunken Treasure I had later that week at the Beach Club- this drink, which has actually been removed from the menu at the pool bar has become the signature drink of the Yacht & Beach Club FAQ thread. Some of us even bring along laminated recipe cards in case we get a bar tender who doesn't know how to make one.

So what is in this Sunken Treasure, and is the Beach Club the only place you can get it?

Love that you and Nanette got to meet up for a drink and illuminations :goodvibes My husband is definitely someone who would freak out at the very idea of a dismeet :scared1::rotfl2:
I don't mention my "imaginary friends" anymore-he just thinks I'm the fountain of all knowledge when it comes to WDW :rotfl::rotfl:

My husband does not entirely understand the very real friendships I have formed with people I only know through the DIS

The idea that we actually want to meet up with some of these friends if we happen to cross paths (usually at the World) is perplexing to our significant others and members of our family.

I had not yet broken the news to my family that several of my internet friends were here at the same time as us, and that I wanted to see them in person.

I am only too happy to admit that my family and especially my hubby think having this group of Dis friends and meeting up with them occasionally is really, really cool. I love them for that!

My husband would have the exact reaction to a DIS meet. In fact why you describe is the plan I had already half formulated in my mind if I were to do any DISmeets during our trip! Hmmm maybe we will just run into each other. :)

I love DIS meets; and I am lucky in that my husband doesn't mind them and often enjoys them as much as I do (although he will once in awhile complain that I plan too many :lmao::lmao:). And as we have met our very best friends here through the DIS (MickeyNicki--Nicki and her husband, Todd) he thinks it is a great thing.

My family does think I am weird meeting other Diser's too, but they are starting to get used to it. My Dad is just amazed when people recognize me. :rotfl2:

My DH has gotten used to my internet friends. The first, and only so far, meet up I had involved flying out to Allentown, PA to run a half marathon with a bunch of internet friends I met on a runner's forum. Since then I've made international friendships with people from all over the world on the Harry Potter forum that I have been a part of for years. If I was to run into someone I met on this forum, he would probably just roll his eyes and go somewhere else for awhile. ;)

I was surprised my hubby didn't think meeting people at Disney was weird. He did think stopping at the mall the day after my son's wedding to meet a couple of friends might have been. I belong to a huge Disney group on fb and we exchanged Christmas cards last year. He was surprised that these people were real. He knows when we go there will be meets.

It was interesting to read all of the different Disney/internet friends thoughts. We have had many DIS meets and have met only the nicest, most down-to-earth normal people......so far. ;) Hope we keep the streak going.

We have gained some wonderful friendships through the DIS, and over time some of them have blurred the line between DIS friend and real life friends.

Jill's husband usually opts out of any meets that we have on trips, but occasionally he will hang out in the background. He knows now that it seems like a safe thing to meet people in Disney World. Like Jen referred to, he was surprised when people recognized us at random places out in the parks and would come up and speak.

Anyway, enjoy all these upcoming meets.
It's nice to know there are other safe, friendly, happy, family-oriented people who can appreciate all the silly Disney things we do and think are cool. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Yes, that is the line I get, too. "This is a family vacation!"

But in all seriousness, my family was very tolerant and understanding of my need to meet up with some of my "imaginary friends"

And one of our dinners was actually planned in advance with a very special friend.

:thumbsup2

It was awesome meeting Nannette!

Definitely an inspired meeting place.

I really treasure my "imaginary friends" who in many cases have become family to me!

I was waiting for the right time to mention my first meet. Apparently, that time was about 15-20 minutes before it actually happened.

Glad you enjoyed the "Later Bird" comic.

::yes::

I had a great time talking to Nannette

You know what would be hilarious? Getting your husband and mine together! I think they have a lot in common.

:lmao:

:welcome: to the report!!!

Well said!

I love that the DISboard forum has given us all a springboard for making strong friendships. I know my trips to Disney are enhanced both by meetings with friends and with the opportunity to share our trips with each other through trip reports.

Don't you love when you have a moment during your vacation when you think "THAT is totally going in the trip report!"

:thumbsup2

So what is in this Sunken Treasure, and is the Beach Club the only place you can get it?

Here is the "tribute" we have to the Sunken Treasure on the Yacht & Beach Club FAQ forum.

The Sunken Treasure used to be available at another location (maybe the Poly?), but it may have been a slightly different recipe and I'm not sure if it is currently still on the menu anywhere in the World.

I enjoyed my first Sunken Treasure in Mexico this past February- I brought my laminated recipe card and asked the bartender if he could make one for me. That's my card in the picture below.

I finally had the chance to try one at the Beach Club during this July trip.

And I have since had one at a local restaurant where I met a couple of DIS-friends.

:drinking1

Sunken Treasure: The unofficial beverage of the Beach and Yacht Club FAQ forum:

Contents: Malibu Rum, Midori, orange juice, pineapple juice and Sprite with a splash of BOLS Blue Curacao.

Thanks, pixarmom, Feckless, WDW4us2006 and Ninja Mom for the photos!

Please note that the Sunken Treasure is no longer on the menu at Hurricane Hanna's, however if you get a bartender who knows how to make the drink, you may still be in luck!

Thanks to medicgirl177, who experiemented at great personal risk to decipher the secret formula:

Can't wait to try a Sunken Treasure. Thanks for sharing recipe! Now do I wait till my Disney trip or till my next time I visit the liquor store? :confused3

My family calls me a "chatterbox" and fully expects me to talk to random strangers as well as cast members and internet friends. :lmao: They barely tolerate this behavior and the children swear that it embarrasses them terribly. :p
In all seriousness I have met some wonderful friends for life through Disney and runDisney. I am running the NYC Marathon for charity and some of my most generous donors have been my Disney friends - including some who have never met me in person.
Glad you had such a great opportunity to meet a valuable DIS friend.

Amanda

Or, you could try bringing along the recipe the next time you go out and maybe the restaurant/bar can whip one up for you!

:woohoo:

That looms incredible! I can't wait to try it out!

Put it on the list!

:goodvibes:

Some day if our paths cross, we will definitely have to set up a meet for us, and the men!!!

I think it is fantastic that you have met friends through DIS, and forged especially strong friendships through runDisney- I'm sure it is a supportive and encouraging group.

I know you have visited with Teena on many occasions. Have you met other DISers on your trip or during the runs?

:)

It was really nice to spend some time with Nannette, and later in the trip I have a couple more meet-ups.

I am glad to have you visit this report, but I kind of suspect this post was for someone else.

I hope you have a great trip to the west coast.

:goodvibes

Is it wrong to want a sunken treasure at 7am?

It's 5 o'clock Somewhere!

Plus, there is both orange and pineapple juice in the ingredients, so it is technically a breakfast beverage!

:rotfl2:

Apparently shameless plugs actually work to get people to read your PTR because here I am. :rotfl: I'm LOVING your title and your photos! Oh my gosh. You are funny! I can't wait to read some more. And your family looks like a lot of fun. :) I love teenagers who enjoy Disney.

Thanks for visiting our PTR over here: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3124103
