Help! My Disney Snowglobe was broken! UPDATE - Great News!

My housekeeper broke one of my snowglobes - here is the link to what it looks like:

It's the one that's second from the bottom, entitled "A Pirate's Life for Me".

I think it's retired. My dh got it for me for my first wedding anniversary present when we went to Vero Beach in 1999 (he bought it for me there)

She broke the top part off, which in turn broke the top part of the glass ball.

Couple of questions:

(1) anyone know how much it costs? I can't find it anywhere.

(2) anyone know if I can buy it anywhere?

(3) anyone know where I could get it fixed, or even if I would be able to?

(4) should I make the housekeeper pay?

I hate it b/c we finally found a housekeeper we like; but I'm really upset about this. I love my disney globe collection and it's my favorite thing(s) I own.

Here's one! You can buy it now for 75.00. In fact there are a few on ebay. Search in disneyana, snowglobes, and pirate. You should find them. Hope this helps.

I'm so sorry. I collect Snowglobes so I know how you feel. I would be heart broken if one of mine broke, even the free Christmas ones I got from JCpenneys.

I'm sure your housekeeper didn't mean to do it. Did she tell you she broke it or did you find out your self? Did she seem sorry or even offer to pay for a new one? It doesnt sound like it's repairable.

It's on Ebay so you can definitely get another one. I would probably ask her to pay for it. Maybe take a little bit out of each of her checks until it's paid.

she told me she broke it. she said that she was just dusting on top of it when it broke. It doesn't make sense though b/c (a) the water was obviously refilled - I can tell b/c there is no more glitter in the water; and (b) there is a very large wet spot about 4 feet away from where the globe was located.

She did seem sorry and offered to buy a new one. But then she left without saying goodbye and took her check I wrote for cleaning with her.

It stinks too b/c even though I can buy a new one, the reason I love my globes is b/c I know exactly when my dh bought it for me (he always buys them - I never do), for what occasion and from where. Like this one from Vero Beach, bought in early December 1999 for our first year wedding anniversary. so the new one, although not broken, is not the "real" one.

I am an original box junkie. The first auction listed states it is not in original box but the one you referenced is. I'd go for the one in original box...price difference is negligible. HTH

I know what you mean radiofanatic about replacing the one your dh bought for you. I have a similiar story but it involves my wedding ring. I brought my wedding ring in to get resized about 5 years after we were married and the guy called back and told me my rings were done but the manager wanted to talk to me. Come to find out they lost my wedding ring. I was not happy. Well they said I could pick out another one similiar and if mine popped up they would give me that one too. Yeah right. Well let's just say when I got it resized it was around Valentine's day and I'm sure someone got a very nice present. It was just a plain diamond band the new one looks similiar but it is not the same. DH was very upset because he picked it out especially for me. Ugh I hate reliving that story. I still can't believe they just lost it. Good luck finding a new snowglobe.

What a bummer that she broke it. Unfortunately, though, it happens. I'm sure she felt horrible about it and was embarassed and left quickly because of that. No way would I make her replace it though. If it is a recurring problem, that's different (and probably time to find a new housekeeper).

I so feel for you. I too love my snowglobes.

I have a friend who cleans on the side. When we were away for our trip in January, she cleaned the house while we were and her daughter house sat one weekend. (this was part of my christmas present)

When we came back, it was to find a broken snowglobe (yes, she told me about it, but the funny thing is, the glass was all jagged edged (it broke the top globe in half) and she left it on the shelf! I am just grateful that one of my cats didn't decide to touch it and slice their pads!

I was missing my clinique facial soap when I got back and when I asked about it (a bit later) it was to find her daughter knocked it off the sink into the toilet (at least they threw it away and didn't put it back into the shower, can you imagine? ewwwww)

So my 'free' housecleaning ended up costing me a $75 snowglobe, a $10ish bar of facial soap and she did something to the vacuum, unknown cost so far for the oreck.

My next housekeeper will be bonded and insured for things like this

I know how upset I would be too, but accidents do happen. I too assume she left so quickly because she felt bad and embarrassed. I wouldn't make her pay, as she told you and offered to. I am sure she was sincere when she offered, but also assume that is about one time cleaning for you and sadly enough probably alot of money.

Similar thing happened to me but on a different note. I was babysitting and the people hit my car. She called her husband immediately, who was still home with me. He went out and looked at it, just a few scratches, BUT it was a big deal to me, I was so upset. They offered to pay, but I couldn't have them do that. I made $125 a day from them and tried to think of it as I did it a few weeks for free. They were great people and I didn't want it to ruin the business relationship. Overall it was a small amount of what they paid me, so try to think of it as a small amount of what you pay her.

Sorry this happened though.

This happened to a friend of mine, her DH travels the world on bussiness and he always brings back a plate and the put them on the mantle. The house keeper broke one and left the mess did'nt even clean it up. My friend had surgery so I got to her house first with her kids and I cleaned it up, and called her DH he fired the cleaning co. And it was a good thing she was sedated at the time

I could never, NEVER have someone else clean my house. And this thread explains many of the reasons why! I would rather have a dirty, cluttered house than have a stranger touch/move/search/break/steal my stuff!!!

& no, personally i wouldn't make the housekeeper pay (i would however, ask her to please be more careful). btw, i think everyone has lost, broken, etc something of great sentimental value during their lives ~ it hurts, but helps to remember they are just "things": the person that gave it to you & the original sentiment that came with it is unchanged, the "thing" was just a reminder

oh that's awful! I'm so sorry about your loss.

Thanks to all for your advice. I would love to hear more. And I'm waiting to talk to my friend who also uses her to find out her opinion - like I said, she's someone neither of us want to lose!

Just got great news! I figured what the heck, Vero Beach doesn't still have it, why not try the World of Disney Store at DTD? So I gave them a call and YES they have it! I definitely got some pixie dust on that one! And it's going to be about $35 less than what I would have paid on ebay and I know WDW packages globes great as we sent one back from WDW last October (my bday present from dh).

So, although it's not the original one from dh for our first year anniversary, it eases my heart knowing that at least it's coming directly from WDW so it feels a lot better than just buying from some joe schmo off of ebay!

YEAH!!!!!!

I'll let you know when it comes in. Anyone want a broken snow globe?

Great news! Your housekeeper was probably admiring it and dropped it by accident... she will probably be more careful now. She probably WAS embarressed....

How about with the old snow globe you salvage the figures inside .. that way you still have the original present and it won't be just a broken globe

Glad to hear you found one and are getting a better price.. I agree with everyone that I bet your housekeeper did it on accident and was embarrassed to say anything.. I wouldnt imagine someone doing that on purpose..
