I've lost my Disforums note of suggestions to make prep more comfortable!
My test is Monday coming!

My preparations are:. Pico-Salax two sachets in 6-8 glasses of water, the day
Before and Dulcolax 5mg-2 tablets

There is a certain point where you should just grab a book or magazine, and stay put. I'm not going to spell it out, but you'll be more comfortable in the end. Good luck :)

The information I was looking for had something along the lines of Gingerale, Chicken broth, Popcicles etc.? Instead of water, and for hunger pangs.

DH had a colonoscopy last week. His prep was liquid food and drink. He ate jello (no red color permitted) clear broth (beef and chicken). Sodas ok, water lots of water. No dairy--we had bought banana popsicles, but realized later they were banana fudge with milk as an ingredient. Instead of the plain popsicles.

I think you could google and get a better list than what I could remember off the top of my head.

Your doctor's office should have spelled out for you what the diet requires. Mine was nothing but clear liquids, clear hard candy or jello, for a certain period before. All had to be non-red, as red dye can interfere.

Since I couldn't find much in the way of non-red hard candy and I loathe jello, that basically meant bite the bullet, starve and get it over with.

Yeah sorry. Hunger is part and parcel of the deal. While I was allowed to have clear broths and popsicles. After downing so much freakin' Gatorade with the laxative, I wanted nothing to do with the "non-red" flavors of ANYTHING. Orange/lemon BLECH. Even the beef and chicken broth was unappealing after the first "meal". So, essentially, be prepared to be hungry for a day.

As to what you are ALLOWED to have, it should be spelled out in your prep paperwork.

This is exactly what I lost. Forgot all about the jello. Last test I was starving.
Thanks so very much. :)

When I asked all I got was a shoulder shrug.

I may have pressed a tad harder for an answer instead of just being satisfied with the shoulder shrug.

Yeah. Everybody in my family who has had one has gotten a sheet with detailed prep instructions from the doctors' offices. I'm sure they had written instruction available in the office.

I found apple juice worked great for my hunger. I also used it to help me get the prep liquid in--a swig of prep, a swig of apple juice, every 15 minutes. And popsicles. They numb your mouth so you don't get as hungry.

Personally, I had no need for wipes, preparation H or sitz baths. As nasty as the prep is I didn't think the effects were so terrible after the first couple times.

I persisted, called the office today. They gave me the information I was looking for. Exactly the same as advised here. Maybe, I'll be more comfortable.

Thanks everyone.

I also have a colonoscopy coming up. Mine's on Tuesday. This is my 4th one (high risk on both sides of the family). The first 2 times, I couldn't manage to drink all the slimy stuff and have it stay down. :crazy2: It was so foul. So the 3rd time, I got the pills instead and it went much easier. So this time I'm doing the pills again. There are 32 of them to take, 4 at a time, and they're big pills. But it was SO much better than drinking the slime.

Good luck! Hope all "goes" well. ;)

Buy soft toliet paper ;)

The procedure itself was fine, the weekend prior was uncomfortable.
