I will be booking this morning and need advice as my husband says he doesn't mind either way!! We are a family of 5 with young kids and stayed in a 1 bedroom SV room in Kidani this past May. It was perfect for us and our kids loved sleeping together on the pullouts and waking up to the animals. Loved the fact we had 2 bathrooms.

Now, our next trip for 11/2010 is our first holiday trip :santa:! I would love for our mothers to join us, but can't get either one to commit :confused3 - they say it's too soon to think about. Well, with that being said I want to take advantage of booking 11 months out regardless. However, kids want SV which means we can only do a 1 bedroom point wise - so moms would be out of the picture. On the other hand with a 9 night trip I'd love to have the extra bedroom and space - who knows, moms may want to join us by then too. I can't see us spending a ton of time in the room since we'll want to check out different park and resort decorations. Doesn't get dark early this time of year too? I'm thinking standard and ask for a room by the lobby so kids can have plenty of viewing opportunities.

Sorry for the long post - need advice!

Thanks everyone :)

I personally would not stay at AKV without savanna view but many are fine with standard. Nevertheless, it sounds like your family is already hooked on savanna view so going to standard may be a disappointment. You don't have to follow this rule but it is one I follow no matter what: if I invite relatives, and am going to spend extra points as a result, they must commit entusiastically in time to make reservation within 11 month window otherwise they are out. Learned from experience that one who says they can't decide now, maybe later, then when they feel like it they finally say yes and then, because they were obviously wishy-washy in the first place, they inevitably tell you 30 days before the trip they can't go.

We did our first 2BR Standard View at Kidani this past October and really didn't miss the Savanna View. All our previous AKV trips had been Savanna View and I was worried the kids would be upset with a view of the parking lot. We told them upfront that we wouldn't have the animals right outside our window so they knew what to expect.

Much to my surprise they never complained once and the point savings helped us have enough left over to book a trip to HHI next summer in a 2BR. There are great viewing areas near the lobby and several large window areas on each hallway to stop and see the animals while walking to/from the rooms.

I don't think we would ever be happy with the limited space in a Value unit, but Standard View was a great compromise for us.

I am going to agree with drusba, I've stayed at the AKV twice and both times with a SV. I had thought of trying to save points and go to a standard, but I just love sitting on the balcony and watching the animals, it is so peaceful and relaxing.
I have to say too that since I have become a DVC member I do spend more time at the resort than I ever did staying in a regular room. So the room size is more important now than it ever was.
