Have you ever pulled a Sickie?

The phrase "needed spontaneous day" doesn't compute. Especially when folks claim this day is "needed" in order to go to Disney, a christening/wedding (yea, because those are ALWAYS spontaneous), an amusement park, etc.

I guess these are the same people who encourage their kids to stay home from school for "mental health days" also.:rolleyes:

 back at you.

As an adult, no I haven't. I work in healthcare and unexpected absences directly impact the staff. I will only call in sick if im actually too sick to work. If I feel I'm getting burnt out I schedule a vacation day.

I never said unplanned events never happened. If I was faced with your situation as an employee, I'd go to my boss and explain the situation. If I was an employer, I'd want my employees to come to me and explain the situation.

That being said, go ahead and try to convince me that the trip to Disney, attending a Christening/Wedding, going to a theme park, etc are a) unplanned and b) needed.

As an employer, you have the right to lump vacation and sick days together, thereby eliminating the need to fake sick days. If you separate them, it's actually silly for an employee not to take full advantage of paid days off. That does not compute.

In my 20's I called in "sick" occasionally when I was actually hungover. Now, being self employed there's no such thing as a "sick"day...who would I try to pull one over on,myself? Dear Me, I'm not feeling great today, won't be coming in. Sucker! Let's go play craps! Oh that's right, you have to go into work and cover for yourself, bummer:rotfl2:

I work in healthcare. My healthcare system gives us one PTO bank. I accumulate per week. Everything comes out of there even holidays. We get a certain number of call outs per year. I believe at 5 it's a verbal, then written, suspension, termination.

I've called out once in three years but when I have called out I don't give a reason. I just say i can't make it. Who says you have to be sick? How about if I'm having car trouble. Or if my furnace broke and I have to wait for the repair guy? Or I'm just stressed the heck out and if I come in I might lose it on a patient that day?

I have a high stress job so mental health days are sometimes needed. They prefer if you just tell them the day before so then coverage can be done. Our PTO requests are never denied for this reason. I actually like my coworkers and like having everything under control instead of dumping on someone else.

There was a girl that would call out and post pics at the beach on fb. She was fired later but not for calling out. She never went over her call out limit so they couldn't touch it.

In my old job in the same system I had a boss who denied a day off to take my daughter to the doctor. I told her I would be calling out. She couldn't do anything because we are allowed call outs.

My coworker was denied two days off for his daughters wedding (it was out of state) so he called off sick-can't blame him one bit! He had tried to get that week vacation but it was a summer week and he didnt have enough seniority to get it.

I have, but I'm not in a position where I need someone to cover for me. The work will get done either before I leave or when I get back. I just like to think it is a sickness, I'm just really sick of being at work! :rotfl2:
