Have alternate route to the airport ready...

... just in case you run into the problem we did on Sunday (08/11).
We were leaving the Radisson (after 6 nights at Wilderness Lodge) around 8 AM. Just by sheer coincidence, I asked a rep at the guest services desk if I-4 was the best way to get to the airport. She then informed me about the horrible accident on I-4 Sunday morning that had closed the interstate in BOTH directions! A gasoline tanker had overturned on an overpass OVER I-4 and closed the roadway.

She gave us an alternate (the Greeneway, I think) that took us right to the airport. As we had a 10:00 flight back to Baltimore, we would never have made it on time had we not asked!

So, even if you know the way to the airport, it's always nice just to double-check for incidents just like ours.

BTW, when we returned our rental car to Dollar at the airport, I asked the rep if it was always this slow (we were the only family I saw returning a car). He had not heard about the accident and he was sure he had "dozens" of customers stuck in the traffic jam.

Welcome to the DIS, Taylor.

Alternate routes are always good things to know. Another good thing to know are the local news and traffic stations on the radio. Does anyone -- local Orlandoans or frequent WDW visitors -- have any suggestions? Which is the best for frequent news and traffic updates, especially on the weekends?
