I was babysitting and heard the dad singing this to the baby:

Trot Trot to Boston, trot trot to Lynn, trot trot to the Charles River, don't fall in!!!

has anyone heard this?

and it's traditionally done while bouncing little one on your knee.. on the "don't fall in" you did the knee dip...

i haven't thought about that rhyme in a wicked long time!

:)

Yup, I grew up with that one:teeth: But we say:

Trot Trot To Boston
Trot Trot To Lynn
Ya betta watch out
Ya might fall innnnnn (dipping the chilg between the knees)

:)

Yep! The version I grew up with and do with my kids is a little different though...

Have a ride to Boston
Have a ride to Lynn
Be careful when you get there
You dont fall in!

And at the fall in part you drop them between your legs(holding them of course);) .

Yup.....still do it with my grandchildren and my new puppy (she really likes it). The version we always said was:

Trot Trot to Boston
Trot Trot to Lynn
Watch out ...."child or puppy's name"....:D
You might fall innnnnn

We always sang this song but a little different:

Rah Rah to Boston
Rah Rah to Lynn

Look out Little "child's name"
That you don't fall in!!

My girls LOVED this!!! They used to squeal with delight while I was dropping them through my knees!!

Yep.

Trot trot to Boston
Trot trot to Lynn
Watch out little (child's name)
That you don't fall innnnnnnn.

My 5yo still likes this, he's just getting too big!

OMG yes...I remember this.....Thanks for the flashback!!!!!!

Ours was like figmentvi's....
Trot, trot to Boston, trot trot to Lynn,
Watch out Katie, you might fall in!!

However, growing up here, the Charles River one does make sense.

Since you say "don't fall in....", I think the only one that makes sense is the one where the river is mentioned. What else would someone be possibly falling in to??? LOL

(I'm living in MA now, but not "from here".... I should ask DH if he's ever heard this rhyme before).

Yes I have heard it.. many times.. my children too.. My mom used to sing it to them. but she never used the Charles River part... she would adapt it to them... something like this.. "watch out little girl that you don't fall in..

This is so funny -

We sing:

Trot Trot to Boston
Trot Trot to Lynn
Look out "Katie"
or you might fall in!

Our version from the North Shore was:

Cha Cha to Boston
Cha Cha to Lynn
Watch out Little One
You don't fall in!!

We also used to sing the Lynn, Lynn, city of sin song.

i've never heard that one!!! How does it go?

Yet another version.............
Trot trot to Boston
Trot trot to Lynn
When you get to ( put in the city you live in)
Do drop in.

Laurie

Ahhh the Lynn song:) So many variations....I will do the family version:

Lynn Lynn City of sin
Ya never come out
The way ya went in
:)

I am loving these!!!:):)

I love the Lynn, city of sin...I'm going to have to drop in, one day.;)
