Has anyone else had enough of this Paula Dean buisness?

I completely and TOTALLY agree.
This is just unbelievable.
The outright HATRED and REVERSE RACISM here is just disgusting.

It is clear on which side of this all of the hatred and racism is coming from.

Absolutely! It's always been clear where the real racism comes from. Paula will do just fine, much to the chagrin of the haters.

So an older lady from an older generation said the N word 30 years ago? And this means she loses her job? Her life is in shambles? I remember as a kid in the 70/80s hearing the N word on television comedy shows and movies and knowing it was a bad word but never thinking it was a life destroying type of bad word...back then. Now we know this word is seriously offensive almost an extreme when you see what's going on with Paula Dean. Has anyone else had enough and just think this whole thing should go away?

I couldn't agree with you more!

Yes. From Paula Deen's mouth.

Honestly, I have no idea what you're getting at with the "side" business but I'm afraid to ask. Also, I don't think you even understand the definition of the words you're using. 'Reverse racism' isn't a thing. Racism against anyone is just that...racism. The fact that the public reacted negatively to Paula's comments does not mean they're being racist towards her. No one is attacking her based on the color of her skin...they're merely responding to the numerous incidents mentioned in her court testimony. I'm pretty sure you haven't read any of the court documents, like most of her volatile defenders in this thread, but once again, this is not about a poor little old lady "making a mistake" 30 years ago. This is about a celebrity who, under oath, confessed to numerous incidents of racist behavior, some rather recently, and who subsequently was dropped by her business partners.

I'm white, yet because I don't condone hate speech, that makes me racist against another white woman? Interesting logic.

If a mid-30's northern white man thinks a mid-60's southern white woman is racist, that's reverse racism?
Amazing what you can learn on the DIS!

She admitted to calling a black bank robber who had a gun to his head the "n" word. What are the other incidents you speak of? You know, if what you say is true, which it isn't, there wouldn't be many, many businesses still backing her, and more who will come forward. People are tired of this crap. It is the new lynching of this era, except without a rope and tree.

When you start calling out the real racists, such as Jamie Foxx stating he gets to kill white people in Django Unchained, and is happy about it, for example, then I'll believe you're not just jumping on the bandwagon to take down someone who worked hard for her money.

I've only heard the word said by a couple of people, and I live in the south. I think it's shocking that there are people who think everyone over 50 has said this word. Seriously?? I don't know where some people live to hear this from everyone over 50. That's horrible.

As for Paula, she'll get over it. I am kind of sick of hearing about it, but if she had shown true remorse, I don't think things would have turned out so badly. I think she is racist, but I did feel sorry for her watching her cry on TV.

Re: Bolded - No.... But I would bet that the vast majority of white people brought up in south Georgia in the 40s, 50s, and 60s have used the word at some point in their lives. I'm not surprised that she would use a deragatory term to describe the person that held a gun to her head. I probably would too. That hers was related to the person's race is probably indicative of her being brought up in south Georgia in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.

I'm also not sure what the big deal was with her making a statement about her assistant's (?) skin color in relation to the backdrop on the interview set. He is very dark and was almost the same color as the backdrop AND was wearing all dark clothes. The fact is that there was not much contrast between him and the backdrop. Why is it bad to state that fact?

ETA - FTR, it only explains why she might have use the N-word 30 years ago in that one incident. It would not excuse her using it now in regular conversation.

So I've pretty much stayed out of the entire PD fiasco as I don't follow the women at all. So here are a few thoughts in general.

1) I am African American, I do not speak for the entire Black race. Please don't ask me why Blacks do XYZ. lol all I can give you are my thoughts.

2) these are general overall thoughts, as with any topic on the dis, some one will have an example of the total opposite.

Now.

The age of the person doesn't matter. It's an offensive word but as some one else pointed out, there is more to the issue that just calling some one some thing offensive. From testimony some of Ms Deans actions have been a bit questionable (to put it politely).

Paula is a cook, her endorsements are about business. Businesses that depend on brand recognition have a right to distance themselves from scandal. If my business endorsed her we would have cancelled also. To pretend that these businesses are now persecuting her is idiotic. They are doing their job. no more no less.

Yes it is unfair that whites seemed to get slapped on the wrist for using the term while AA do not (for the most part). It is also unfair that African americans are still feeling the reprecussions of over 200 years of ingrained, institutional and government approved racism. Sorry no we really don't feel sorry for you because the bottom line is my sons are still 4X's as likely to get pulled over by the police than a white kid for nothing more than the color of his skin.

Paula dean will come out of this absolutely fine. she will hire a PR firm to handle her public image and go rolling right along. She is a public figure and as such is at the mercy of the public image.

I am sorry "they" are nailing her to the cross. I live in central GA. and do not believe she's racist. The media will pick on one person then next day someone else. We are not talking just about her reputation but looots of jobs for people under her employment. Next the media may attack you (esp) if you are famous and see how you like it!:stir:

That's called the chance you take for being a celebrity. Most celebrities know this.
The winds of fortune are fickle. If you don't want the media to pick on you, get out of the public eye.

LOL she wasn't screaming about the media when all the sympathy was pouring in for her illness. If I'm not mistaken she was on GMA talking about all the "love" she was feeling from the public.

I love it when a celebrity is up they are media hogs but when the dirt comes out on them, then they start with the "please leave me alone".

Sorry sweetie, you know the game, you played the game, pick yourself up and plan your comeback.

Um, yeah. She admitted under oath in her deposition to using the n-word many times and to planning a plantation style wedding for her brother complete with black men dressed as slaves. You should read the court documents. I did. It's eye opening.

I'm only tired of the "oh poor Paula!" posts from people who have paid zero attention to the actual case, and yet rant and rave on here and on FB like the woman is being publicly flogged.

This is, essentially, all that has happened:

1)Court testimonies from celebrity's own mouth reveal numerous examples of racism and bigotry
2)General public says "woah, that's really not cool."
3)Corporations nix association with said celebrity to avoid fallback

This is all about business. No one is burning the woman at the stake. I'm sure many of Paula's fans don't care she's a bigot, but the rest of the nation does, and thus as a celebrity product with her 'likability' tarnished, she is no longer a good investment. She's already earned many, many millions of dollars. She'll be just fine, I assure you.

Totally agree.

It wasn't one word one time. There is more than that - she just seems totally ignorant that making jokes or comments based on negative stereotypes can be offensive. As a businesswoman, that's not a good blindside.

I also tend to think that some of these partnership cancellations stem from not just this, but it's a continuation of the flak she caught during the whole diabetes debacle. Kind of the last straw - her tone deafness to both incidents just built on one another and it was time to part ways...

What are the other incidents you speak of? You know, if what you say is true, which it isn't

So you admit to not having read the court transcript and knowing nothing about the actual case, yet in the same breath say you know everything I say is wrong. That's magic.

there wouldn't be many, many businesses still backing her

Paula has officially been dropped by:

Food Network
Wal-Mart
Caesars
Smithfield
Home Depot

So...what's that about many businesses backing her?

I'm not even going to touch your "real racists" comments. It's not my battle to fight your bigotry, just to rationalize with those defending Paula's.

I completely and TOTALLY agree.

It isn't clear to me. Please elaborate. Last time I checked, white people were more upset about this than black people. So, please elaborate.

Are you crazy? You're equating a rich woman losing "some" income to people getting hung from trees? I don't want to be banned, so I can't express myself the way I want to, but as a black man, I must say....NEVERMIND. God bless you.

Methinks some have read the original complaint:

http://www.atlawblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Jackson-v.-Deen-et-al.-Complaint.pdf

and have confused it with Ms. Deens actual deposition:

http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2013/06/entertainment/deen-deposition/

There's quite a difference between the two, and there is a lot of information that is NOT being reported in the main stream media:

Oh well. It is what it is.

I guess I just find it funny that so many people believe what the media sells them.

I can't say I feel bad for her. I think people on both sides are being overly dramatic. I think the whole thing would have blown over by now if any of her apologies would have seemed sincere.

Can you please define "reverse racism" for me?

Racism is racism...there is no "reverse" about it.

And am I the only one that finds the irony in someone being tired of all of the Paula Deen coverage posting a thread about Paula Deen?

I think she has racist tendencies like a lot of people her age who live in the south. My coworker around Paula's age referred to "colored" folks in the work place just a couple of months ago. She knew better but she didn't care because she lives in the south and behind closed and sometimes open doors it's not frowned upon. AND yes I live in central GA too, so I observe various situations that have racist overtones. I don't know if she can be remorseful esp when it's not just ONE thing that she's being called out on, but various situations during recent times, not just the gun one. If a white male had put a gun to her head, would she have called him "a flat crispy wafer?"
