Has anyone else had enough of this Paula Dean buisness?

She also lost her relationship with Wal-mart and them carrying her products.

And Smithfield Pork products dropped as their spokeperson. As well as the Food Network dropping her shows.

Just today, 4 restaurants in Las Vegas will be renamed without her name.

However, she made $17 million last year. Even if she loses all her endorsements, if her remaining restaurants survive, she will still make $7 million this year.

She can buy a nice, private southern plantation to retire at.

Ridiculous. Tell me anyone over the age of 50 who hasn't said the n word.
Really?

Let the poor woman alone.

I'm just over 50 and have never said that word. I grew up in a fairly diverse white collar community in New Jersey which is a big reason why.

Like I said before, yes, I'm tired of hearing about it. But I'm more tired of people who keep saying we should cut her some slack for saying it. There is a lot more going on here than her admitting she said it. That is not all she has done, and allowed to go on in her businesses.

BTW, I don't remember any PD restaurants in Vegas, much less 3 of them.

Not only is it sickening it's bringing out the worse in everyone. I felt so bad for her this morning on the Today Show when Matt tried to bully words out of her, I just think this thing is the least important issue of the day. And it's a major distraction from what is really important, like the Supreme Court decisions.

SO glad Al straightened out Natalie when she used that HUGE brush that I've been hearing ad nauseum for the past few days that all "blacks call each other that word." Al pointed out that there is a certain segment that does but it does not reflect EVERYONE. Thank you, Al~:thumbsup2

I think the while thing is overblown, but I also believe she's going to come out "clean" on the other side one day. And in the meantime, she's got $60 million to make herself feel better. She's a kook who probably didn't mean any harm, but she's shown some poor judgement. I'm having a hard time feeling much sympathy for her.

Maybe Las Vegas based? We have a Horseshoe Casino in a neighboring city, and the buffet was hers. It was announced today that Horseshoe drooped her and the buffet would be rethemed and renamed.

God yes but mostly because it is a symptom of a much bigger disease...what we consider "news".

The lady is hateable and has been for a long time but it isn't really worth anything more than a quick mention on the way to some actual news. I care about as much about Paula Dean as I do about who Tiger Woods sleeps with or what the weather is on some yet-undiscovered planet 20 solar systems away. I'll let you infer how much that is.

I'm over 50, and can say with 100% confidence that I have NEVER said that word. Ever. It is an ugly word. And, I know I am not alone. It is not an age thing. It is a grace thing.

It sort of reminds me of the whole communists blacklist thing in the 50's. From what I've seen, her brother has a big issue, and she has some stuff to apologize for. She has, and IMO it should be over.

I don't understand why it has become such a huge thing. She has many people of different races who know her that have come forward said they haven't seen it. I guess I'm more likely to believe them than the other stories.

I remember hearing those words being used in the 60's along with others that are also hurtful. I can't imagine how we would stop doing any business with anyone who ever said them. I remember hearing eeny meenny miny mo, (although I knew you were supposed to say "tigers" but they used to say another word) and eating at a restaurant called Sambos. I also had a children's story book of the same story. I'm pretty sure I've said the word more than once in childhood playground arguments about how you weren't supposed to say the word. I specifically remember saying the word out loud once, when I was tattling on my grandpa to my parents, because I was shocked at things he was saying in senility that he never would have said before.

I generally don't use ANY foul language, but if was was asked under oath if I'd used that word I'd have to say yes.

PD reminds me of someone I know, who happens to come from a pretty redneck background. She wouldn't hurt a fly on purpose, but says some pretty ignorant stuff sometimes that we have to explain to her isn't appropriate. I can totally see her thinking that a plantation wedding would involve a period detail that is not kosher.

The word grace is what I keep thinking of too, but I wonder where is the grace towards someone who has tried to be truthful and apologize?

I'm not tired of it yet. I watched the Today Show interview and I actually think Matt did fine. Not too tough at all. She came across (to me) as ignorant, clueless and out of touch. When Matt brought up the comment she made about stereotypical jokes - that most jokes were about Jewish people, black people, etc - and she said she couldn't tell what people found offensive or not in that regard I thought - seriously?? You really can't think it out that some people might find jokes about their religion or race offensive?

I'm sure her fans will continue to support her. Personally, I'm ok with the fact that she had been dropped by Food Network, Wal Mart, Caesars and Smithfield. She's a public figure and she is her brand and therefore what she says reflects on the people who do business with her.

I'm done with it. In a few years she will pull a Martha Stuart/Michael Vick and have some sort of a comeback. Never as popular as she was, but still with $ coming in.

Do we know more about the plantation wedding Paula was throwing for her brother? I think that was years ago.

Here's the way I see her. I doubt she is a racist. Her apology seemed heartfelt and sincere. However, I lost all respect for her when she lived with her diabetes for two years privately, continuing to use her show to push the very foods she knew were a problem, and then when she got her endorsement deal for the diabetes drug, suddenly she decides to get all healthy. Seems very hypocritical to me, and that I don't like.

I guess I agreed with her. She wasn't saying racist jokes aren't offensive. She was saying she hears people say stuff all the time that she thinks is offensive so she really can't tell what people find offensive or not. I'm continually surprised at what people AREN'T offended by so how could I determine what they are offended by?

I don't disagree with you about her being ignorant, clueless, and/or out of touch. However, I guess I see those things as much more forgivable than some do.:confused3

They are not in Las Vegas, they are own other Harrah owned Casinos.

Your standards must be very low. My parents never used that word, and would have given us the belt if any of us had. Seriously, using that word in any context dismisses a whole race of people, as if they can be grouped in one bunch. Despicable.
