It sort of reminds me of the whole communists blacklist thing in the 50's. From what I've seen, her brother has a big issue, and she has some stuff to apologize for. She has, and IMO it should be over.
I don't understand why it has become such a huge thing. She has many people of different races who know her that have come forward said they haven't seen it. I guess I'm more likely to believe them than the other stories.
I remember hearing those words being used in the 60's along with others that are also hurtful. I can't imagine how we would stop doing any business with anyone who ever said them. I remember hearing eeny meenny miny mo, (although I knew you were supposed to say "tigers" but they used to say another word) and eating at a restaurant called Sambos. I also had a children's story book of the same story. I'm pretty sure I've said the word more than once in childhood playground arguments about how you weren't supposed to say the word. I specifically remember saying the word out loud once, when I was tattling on my grandpa to my parents, because I was shocked at things he was saying in senility that he never would have said before.
I generally don't use ANY foul language, but if was was asked under oath if I'd used that word I'd have to say yes.
PD reminds me of someone I know, who happens to come from a pretty redneck background. She wouldn't hurt a fly on purpose, but says some pretty ignorant stuff sometimes that we have to explain to her isn't appropriate. I can totally see her thinking that a plantation wedding would involve a period detail that is not kosher.
The word grace is what I keep thinking of too, but I wonder where is the grace towards someone who has tried to be truthful and apologize?
