Has anyone else had enough of this Paula Dean buisness?

I agree with those people who say that this whole thing is blown out of proportion. I'm not a Paula Deen fan and have never used a recipe of hers, but I just ordered her most recent cookbook (I think it is the most current; it is the one currently at #1 on Amazon) in support of her.

you may no longer get it. the publisher Random house Ballantine books just announced it's no longer releasing it.

Oh, I'm not referring to the one that hasn't been published yet. I am talking about the one that is about 2 years old. It is no. 1 on Amazon as well.

At first I was shocked at how everyone was reacting and then I did a little homework and found that it really is not about the word its about what she said under oath and about this Plantation Party she wanted to throw. I think THAT is what most people are upset about and yes she needs to just go away for now. Maybe go on a trip to South Africa or something like that, but she needs to really lay low.

What I find to be quite interesting is another celebrity very recently made some very horrible comments Mr. Alec Baldwin......

Now let's see if Capitol One will drop him for what he said?

I mean let's not forget Tiger Woods lost a lot of sponsers when he did what he did, but if I am not mistaken they all came back or at least some of them did.

So if we can forgive him, I guess we'll be able to forgive Paula Deen. I don't agree with her comments and she has not come across as being sorry, she feels she is being attacked and I also don't feel her tears were real.

Sorry to those are supporting her at the moment just how I feel.

I have read this entire thread and I just don't understand why people keep saying that this is all about a word that she said 30 years ago. Clearly there is much more to the story than that. The "much more" was also recent.

Exactly.

I would think Paula would keep it on the "30yrs ago and the plantation party" to keep it off the real issue of the current MESS going on in the restaurants.

IT IS!!! If you read the racism case brought against her it was brought by a WHITE WOMAN!!!! and the thing is the CASE IS NOT about saying the N-word 30 yrs ago.

Try something like don't you wish you could wash the coal black skin off you and end up with my white skin and other wonderful Paulaisms!!!!

These company's dropped her because it is soooooo much worse then the media has been focusing on.....

Of course there is, but if someone chooses to focus on that one word, and then say that it was a long time ago, then that person does not need to really think about fairness and equity in the workplace. I saw a Ted Talks video that discusses "The Single Story" and how a single story is true, but if you take the time to learn more stories that pertain to that subject, you may find that your opinion changes because now you know more than what is one simple aspect of the issue.

In the case on PD< the single story is the use of the N word 30 years ago, along with a fuzzy tale of an Old South wedding theme. Okay, on the surface, the N word was used pretty freely 30 years ago by some segments of the population. Even 10 years ago, some people may have thought that it was "cute" to entertain like one would entertain in the Old South. But sine the ide was scrapped, and the word not used publicly in a long time, let her have a pass. Single Story.

Now look at the additional stories that are lurking and you begin to understand that PD is more than that lovable old Gramma who cooks homey fattening meals and smiles and say's Y'all like she earned a penny for every time she Y'alled someone. More stories that make her single story look like a prologue to the rest of the novel. But if some of the people who are fixated on her use of the word look no deeper than that, then they can be indignant for her, buy her books to support her and say that the companies that want to distance themselves before their own bottom lines falls are wrong.

I have to wonder though, if any one of those people owned a business and knew that the behaviors that are starting to come forward were just the tip of the iceberg, with more egregious behaviors that occurred within the PD empire, would they continue to jeopardize their own financial health in order to support her? Once one or two people begin to come forward with complaints, others soon follow, and if this is an indication of the working conditions she fostered, then more suits will follow, and anyone who is associated with her will be a part of the payment plan. his is not just jealous people who want a piece of her Krispy Kreme Custard pie.

You make an excellent point. Those of us who don't follow the soap opera news and only catch a few highlights, such as myself, have only heard about the 'N' word from 30 years ago and "some pissed off white woman".

Sounds like a non story to me. Beyond that will I look deeper? Nope. I don't own anything PD, I would never buy her cook books... I've seen her on TV and every recipe includes 1-9,000 pounds of butter.

I have no real interest.

Personally I'm more concerned over the massive spying of the American people being perpetrated by yet another out of control administration.

So IMO, Ain't nobody got time for Paula Dean!

And that is fine. No one is required to follow any news story, and certainly not one that revolves around a FN celebrity. I tune out a lot of news stories as well, so I understand why PD is a non issue to a lot of people.

The point wanted to make was that if someone is supporting someone in the news, or is upset when corporate sponsors sever ties with a celebrity due ti questionable behavior, the reason is generally deeper than one single story. But for some people, they are satisfied basing an opinion on that single story.
