Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

Since I posted this late last night:

Am I the only person who thinks Draco and Luna could pass for brother and sister(Tom Felton and Evanna Lynch)?

I can see a resemblence, but I like Luna and can't stand that little twerp Draco so I have a hard time thinking of them as brother and sister. And definately NOT as a couple.

I only saw this by sheer accident, the actors could easily pass for family I think.

To me there is a definite lack of closure in the book which leaves me feeling very unsettled. All the other books have a final closing scene -- a farewell banquet, a funeral, a trip on the train where they all promise to keep in touch and make plans for the next year. In this one, Harry heads off to bed and wishes for a sandwich.

Harry being Harry, it actually made me a little sad to think that the next 19 years of his life were boring.

Actually, I think it was perfect.

All his life, Harry just wanted to be an ordinary person with a regular life. He hated all the attention he got as "The Boy Who Lived", and his lightening scar. So after the great Battle of Hogwarts, Jo Rowling gave Harry what he has always wanted - a peaceful, happy, ordinary (as far as you can be ordinary for a wizard) life.

The live chat ended. But at the end they said...

"A full transcript will be available on www.bloomsbury.com/harrypotter tomorrow."

The full transcript is already available at Leaky Cauldron.

JKR discusses how she changed her mind about things she had said in the past would happen in book 7 - for example, someone doing magic who hadn't before shown the ability and ending the book with the word "scar" --

Ginny apparently becomes the Witchly version of Mia Hamm :thumbsup2

Rowling said the world was a sunnier, happier place after the seventh book and the death of Voldemort.

Harry Potter, who always voiced a desire to become an Auror, or someone who fights dark wizards, was named head of the Auror Department under the new wizarding government headed by his friend and ally, Kingsley Shacklebolt.

His wife, Ginny Weasley, stuck with her athletic career, playing for the Holyhead Harpies, the all-female Quidditch team. Eventually, Ginny left the team to raise their three children _ James, Albus and Lily _ while writing as the senior Quidditch correspondent for the wizarding newspaper, the Daily Prophet.

Harry's best friend, Ron Weasley, joined his brother, George, as a partner at their successful joke shop, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Hermione Granger, Ron's wife and the third person of the series' dark wizard fighting trio, furthered the rights of subjugated creatures such as house elves in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures before joining the magical law enforcement squad. The couple had two children _ Rose and Hugo.

Luna Lovegood, Harry's airily distracted friend with a love for imaginary animals who joins the fight against Voldemort in the Order of the Phoenix, becomes a famous wizarding naturalist who eventually marries the grandson of Newt Scamander, author of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

And what Muggle, or non-wizard, song would have been played at the funeral of Albus Dumbledore, the most brilliant and talented wizard the world had ever known?

"Surely `I Did It My Way' by Frank Sinatra," Rowling told her fans, referring to the song "My Way," written by Paul Anka but popularized by Sinatra, among other singers.

As the chat wrapped up, Rowling thanked readers for their loyalty to the series.

"What can I say? Thank you so much for sticking with me, and with Harry, for so long. You have made this an incredible journey for Harry's author."

Thanks for posting that quote of the chat. It is great to hear about the future she planned out for them and what happened after Hogwarts.

Wow, that's interesting. So Ron joins George at Weasley's Wizardly Wheezes? I thought he and Harry were in the Auror department at the Ministry.

A few more of my thoughts:

Arthur Weasley was slated to die, as we all now know, but I don't think it was in the last book. I think he was not supposed to survive the snake attack at the Department of Mysteries in Book 5, Order of the Phoenix. Instead, JK Rowling had a change of heart, and just severely injures him.

Rowling said that killing Tonks and Lupin devastated her, but she felt it was necessary. Some people here have criticized Tonks for leaving little Teddy to go and fight at Hogwarts. I disagree. She was, in fact, an Auror, AND she wanted to be there, with the man she loved. Mostly, though, I think she was fighting for a better world for Teddy, a world without Voldemort, and in that sense, she was doing it out of love for him.

Ginny was at Hogwarts during Book 7, so although we didn't hear too much from her, she was still around, doing some pretty impressive magic.

I LOVED the line from Mrs. Weasley to Bellatrix - NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU B****!!!!! Hated Bellatrix with a passion, and I was glad she got what she deserved.

I wish that Umbrage had gotten more of a punishment than just being "stupefied" and hitting her head at the Wizengamot, though.

I still think the Snape subplot was the most interesting, although Dumbledore's was pretty good too. I wondered about his great duel with Grindelwald, though. If Grindelwald had the Elder Wand, that was unbeatable, how was Dumbledore able to defeat him in the duel?

And when Snape was facing Voldemort, why do you think Snape kept insisting on going to find Harry to bring him to Voldemort? I have a theory . . . ;)

Oh, and I read that Warner Brothers does not think the movie version of Deathly Hallows will be released until AT LEAST 2010!!!!!

I can't wait for 3 years!!!!

Isn't there some place we can write to them to encourage them to greenlight this???

2010 seems like a reasonable release date. Have they even started filming Half Blood Prince? imdb says it is not coming out until late 2008. The movies all seem to have about a year and a half between them so 2010 is the earliest I could see Deathly Hallows coming out. I wouldn't want them to rush it. When you rush things they lose quality and integrity.

Half Blood Prince is supposed to start filming in September, with a November 2008 release date.

I loaned my book out, working from memory here. Didn't snapes memories show that DD said there will come a time when V is keeping the snake safe and not sending him to do his work. When this time comes you need to be sure Harry gets to V. I think that is what he was going for. I presumed that he would then tell Harry all or some of the memories he gave harry at his (Snapes) death.

Oh, I'm sure it's not a matter of "greenlighting" the movie- it is already past the halfway point of '07, and they haven't even started filming Book 6 yet (filming is set to start in September, I believe).

The 6th movie is slated to be released for the '08 Holiday season, and they probably won't start filming the 7th movie until after #6 premiers. So, that would put filming starting around Spring of '09, with a release date not possible until Spring '10 at the very earliest.

Seeing the Book 7 was so full, I wouldn't even mind a 4 hour epic (or 2 shorter films, released 6 months apart) for the last movie.

I don't think I need to tell you Deb how much I love Alan Rickman. But I was floored when I read DH and found out that James and Lilly were born in 1960 and died in 1981. And since the story takes place in the 90s Snape should bei n his 30s. A bit of a stretch since AR is in pushing 60.

A minor detail, of course, and does not take away from my beloved Alan Rickman. But a bit surprising. I was also just floored to find out that James and Lily were not even 21 when they had Harry. I guess I just always pictured them older, maybe in their late 20s or early 30s when they died.

Yes, but Snape has THE best death scene ever!!!! Can't wait to see Rickman in that role!!!

As for the wizards getting married and having kids young, I think JK Rowling may have taken that from her parents. In her biography, she says that her mom and dad got married at 19 and had her when they were 20.

That is correct....and you know they will time the last movie with the opening of the Universal park

But isn't the Wizarding World of Harry Potter supposed to open in "late 2009"?

The last movie isn't being released until at least 2010!!

I think so. That's why Snape keeps looking up at Nagini's magical cage.
Snape wants to give Harry his memories.
