Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

Loved the interview with J.K.Rowling on Dateline tonight! :thumbsup2 I really wasn't this hungry for more info. until the last book.

It is so funny to try to explain it all to someone who hasn't read the books because I know I must sound like -- like -- I'm not sure -- but if I hadn't read it, and someone was trying to explain it to me, and why they thought it was so incredible, I would think "oh - how nice for you" rolling my eyes inside!! You know????

i was done in a little under 12 hours since the midnight release but i haven't posted about it yet.

I'm so sad and upset its over yet it is one of my favorite books.

I thought JKRowling was fabulous tonight. I liked hearing her thoughts on what Hermoine, Ron, and Harry were doing 19 years later for jobs. I also loved her explaination of why she killed off Lupin and Tonks -- when I found out Tonks was dead, that really threw me.

It's just hard to believe there will be no more Harry Potter books to look forward to. I love that world.

There's a live chat going on right now at www.scholastic.com/harrypotter with JK Rowling.

No idea how long it'll last, started at 9 this morning (eastern) . . . I logged on after the morning meeting, people are submitting questions and she's answering. I'm sure there will be a transcript eventually for those that cant' make it in.

I just looked up the actors who played James and Lilly - they were born in 1958 and 1967, respectively. Making the actor who played James 43 when the first movie was made, and the actor who played Lily 34. A tad long in the tooth to be the 20 year old kids they were supposed to be in Harry's photographs.

Then again, Hagrid is supposed to be Tom Riddle's contemporary...I guess they are what, 20 years older than Snape, Sirius, James and Lily. Yet Robbie Coltrane, who plays Hagrid, is actually 4 years younger than Alan Rickman, who plays Snape. And Ralph Fiennes who plays Voldemort is 16 years younger than Rickman!

I guess I just need to chalk it up to things that make you go hmmmmmm............

Hold the phone... Somebody help me with dates. In COS, the chamber was opened for the first time "50 years ago". COS took place in 1993, so the chamber was first opened in 1943. In the "flashbacks" or "memories" from the diary, Dumbledore was already a professor at Hogwarts at that time. Now, when was Dumbledore born and when was he a student at Hogwarts?

Yes I agree some of the dates are wrong i think. I was just reading OotP and in an article it says that lucious is 41. When it quotes him the the daily prophet but somewhere in the lastest book I could have swron that it said that he was a prefect when the marauders went to school. Or maybe im getting something confused. That would be off by a few years no?

My niece was over last night and she's in the middle of the book. So, we didn't turn on the interview. I didn't want to give anything away and ruin it for her. For those of you who watched, was there anything new?

Lucious is supposed to be a couple of years older than the Maruders. I'm thinking Snape, James, Sirius and Peter were (or in James' case, would have been) 30 when the first book came out and 37 when the last book came out, Lucious 32 through 39. So yes, that is a couple of years off. And Dumbledore, well, he'd be about 150 in 1997. Math doesn't seem to apply in the wizarding world. :rotfl:

Prefects are chosen in 5th year. Lucius was a prefect when Snape was sorted into Slytherin. So he's 4-6 years older than the Marauders.

James' birthdate (and Lily's) are listed in DH on the gravestones, but I don't have the book here to look. I do know Dumbledore's battle with Grindenwald where he won the Elder Wand was in 1945. COS was in 1992 (Harry was born in 1980...based on the letter to Sirius from Lily where she thanks him for the toy broom he gave Harry for his birthday and the fact that they died on 10/31/1981). So if the COS was opened 50 years prior, that means it was opened in 1942...so the 40s were a big decade for Dumbledore.

Oh, and that means Hagrid would be 63, if he was a third year when the chamber was opened.

My head hurts.

I don't have the book with me either, but I do remember that both James and Lily were born in 1960, with Lily a few months older than James.

Yup, James is 3/60 and Lily 1/60.

Here JKR confirms Dumbledore is actualy 150ish:

How old is Dumbledore?

From Cub Reporter event (July 2005, CBBC Newsround):
George Moore for The Times - How old is Dumbledore?
JK Rowling: I see him as about 150 I have said before that wizards unless they contract some horrible magical disease which does happen... They didn't grow up together, in case you didn't hear that that was a question about whether Flamel and Dumbledore why they were friends if the man was alive 600 years ago. They became friends during Dumbledore's lifetime, they hadn't been friends from boyhood otherwise Dumbledore would be a bit of a rarity.

:)

:teeth: I imagine they'll sit back and laugh at the Muggles scrambling around panicking.

On a related note, it does surprise me that Hermione hadn't discovered the internet yet.

Yes. Those are some of the reasons i don't think it's Merope.
When I first read the part about Professor Trelawney in book 7, I didn't notice it, but a few sentences later, it kind of sunk in that I didn't remember ever hearing of her doing magic before. The books never said she didn't do magic, but I don't remember her doing any.

I don't think she was much of a witch, but she definetly had performed magic before. The Prophecy that Voldemort is going after in OOTP, and she had another in POA.

I think she preferred divination, wasn't very good at, just preferred it; but she was a fully functional witch, Dumbledore was interviewing her for a position at Hogwart's when she had The Prophecy. He wouldn't have been interviewing a Squib or a Muggle for a professorship at Hogwarts.

Divination is not highly regarded because the future is fluid. To quote another great wizard (or Jedi in this case), "uncertain is the future, always changing it is". Makes Trewlaney's preferred magic hard to take seriously when she's always wrong about things.

Perhaps wizards and witches live longer lives than muggles?

Since I posted this late last night:

Am I the only person who thinks Draco and Luna could pass for brother and sister(Tom Felton and Evanna Lynch)?

Did anyone see the JK Rowling interview on Dateline last night? she said Ron and Harry were Aurors and Hermione was prob in Wizard law. thats what she imagined.
