Happy about alcohol policy!!

You think parents should never have a glass of wine in front of their kids? You understand that there is a difference between having a drink and getting drunk, right?

Should I also not have the occasional piece of cake? I mean, I would prefer my child eat healthy all the time, but I also think an occasional treat is ok. The same logic applies here: I would prefer my child only drink in moderation when she is old enough, so should I refuse to expose her to the temptation until she is at least old enough?
I'm with testing on this.

In all seriousness...3 Disney cruises, haven't ever seen anyone getting super crazy with the alcohol. :confused3

Our son brought rum on one of our family cruises and at age 66 I enjoyed a few rum & cokes for the first time in my life! He will be disappointed big time!

We bring wine to enjoy on our veranda. We're within the amount that will be allowed, if they stopped allowing some to be brought on, we would buy it on board.

Right now there are 4 DCL cruises in our future, plus one on RCCL. I happen to like DCL more than RCCL, but sometimes DCL's itinerary or cost stops me, and I chose others.

I drink! And my kids know about it! I liked being able to bring my favorite beverages on my Disney cruises. I like to mix my own drinks. They are better than the watered down drinks on the ship! SHOCKING, I know! I like adult-only areas because my husband and I can relax and drink adult beverages without kids around. We have to drag our kids out of the kids clubs every night for dinner. Our kids are well supervised while we are having "adult" time.

I think the OP needs to understand that not all who drink intend to get drunk! There are bars all over the ships! This policy change is not going to stop anyone from getting drunk! It's just going to cost more to get there!

BUT….they still don't charge and that was the point i was making.
if you want to go your route then 2 bottles with dcl = $50 where as 2 bottles with rccl = $0. i'll take the $0 dollars please. i don't think $50 is anything to sneeze at.

this wasn't my point anyways, sorry if the original post made it sound that way. i was only correcting a previous post that said rccl charged. its always nice to have the correct information.
I do understand your point, and RCI does win when it comes to corkage fees.

Although DCL's change in policy doesn't affect me, they should've postponed the implementation beyond anyone's paid-in-full date.

We drink on cruises because we get to a point between tipsy and almost drunk and kind of stay there the whole vacation. I mean, its a LOT of Disney, but the kid loves it, so we do that for her. The reason we drink on a cruise and not on a land based vacation...if something were to happen, say she fell and needed stitches or other medical attention, we would not be in a safe state to drive her to the hospital, legally. That is irresponsible. BUT on a cruise, medical is right there floating along with us, so both my husband and I can drink and not worry about driving or dealing with emergencies.

And OP, get ready for this...for our most recent 14 night Panama Canal Cruise we packed approx 6 bottles of wine (for the dining room), 2 bottles of champagne, bottle of Parrot Bay, a handle of Jack, a bottle 1.75L of Goose, Kirkland Margarita, pineapple juice cans, grenadine (to make drinks for the kid) and 48 bottles of water. Our roll aboard was almost 150 pounds! We stopped and bought another bottle of Jack half way through the cruise....the ONLY issue we had from consuming all that alcohol...I GAINED 15 POUNDS!!! We had half a bottle of Jack left when we pulled in to port. So yeah, we had ourselves a reallllly good time and did not bother a single person on board. (and I forgot about the bottle DCL gifted us too!) There is a big difference between acting like a teenager at your first frat/sorority party and getting naked-wasted and being an adult and maintaining a solid buzz. I'm starting to wonder how much experience you have being around responsible consumers of alcoholic beverages considering you formed such a strong opinion about drinking on a cruise ship 3 moths prior to your first sailing.

In my seven cruises with Disney, I have only seen one person who was pouring a drink he had brought onboard, from a glass bottle out of his backpack at Mickey's pool. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

But I have never seen a single person drunk.

So how do some of you posters know people are getting drunk from alcohol they brought onboard? Because Disney wouldn't let some one have that much alcohol? Doubt it, they are working for tips. I, personally, don't think they are going to limit anyone at the bars unless they are seriously, seriously inebriated.

Totally agree! Carrying on alcohol does not mean that someone is a raging drunk. I don't drink beer and only a little wine...I enjoy a little Rumchata on the veranda. What are the odds that DCL will carry that or other 'specialty' liquors? Pretty slim...

and we were also past our paid in full date when this change was announced.

I'm really surprised at the number of folks who don't drink or have never carried on any alcohol and are 'celebrating' this change. In my opinion, this just comes across as mean-spirited.

Yep, I like my Flor de Caña, but DCL doesn't carry it. We like it because it's good and from my wife's native Nicaragua. I am not drinking Bacardi or some other lame alcohol for 4 or 5 times the cost.

Holy cow, I've discovered yet another reason why I'm happy I canceled my Fantasy cruise for NCL Getaway: much less likelihood of prudish parents walking by with their kids and glaring at me while I'm sipping my margarita at the adult pool.

The loss of the ability to have items dropped of to be signed does not affect me at all but I can sure sympathize with those it does..

am I the only person who is happy about this policy. I am going on a Disney cruise for my kids not a booze cruise. There are plenty of those around and much cheaper.

I can totally understand being 'indifferent' about the change in policy as not everyone drinks and therefore are not impacted by these new restrictions. But to be "happy" about the change, when you know so many of your fellow travellers are disappointed, seems rude and unnecessary. You're happy that we'll all have a bigger bill at the end of the cruise and you won't? You've never cruised before so you can't possibly be happy that this change will improve the ambiance and people's behaviour - how would you know?!

You've all been trolled. There's no way someone could be happy to have perks taken away from their fellow cruisers. That'd be kind of jerky.

Maybe so. But there sure isn't a shortage of jerky people on these boards.

The biggest issue I have with this change is that it goes into effect during our sailing. I believe that when I paid in full for my cruise, the policies and amenities listed when I paid should be honored when I sail. Any changes to amenities and policies ( no matter what these changes are) should be made so that people can still back out of the cruise with a refund. 2 changes affect my sailing- no more mickey mail and this alcohol policy. Not a deal breaker really but out of principal, changes should be made with more time.

Packing all of the above, i'd be upset with the new policy as well. Cheers :drinking:

Personally it won't affect me. I've never really understood drinking in front of my child. This is a bit different but we went to WDW before our cruise last month and it was sad to see parents lined up at the resort's bar with kids in tow sitting there all bored while their parents drank. Not much of a family vacation especially when WDW has so much to offer for the kids.
Not everyone that cruises Disney has children with them. Just one more perk that they want to take away.

But I love Disney and I love to enjoy drinks. I have every right to do so on a cruise that I'm paying double the cost of most other major cruise lines as is.
