Happy about alcohol policy!!

Personally it won't affect me. I've never really understood drinking in front of my child. This is a bit different but we went to WDW before our cruise last month and it was sad to see parents lined up at the resort's bar with kids in tow sitting there all bored while their parents drank. Not much of a family vacation especially when WDW has so much to offer for the kids.

What perk do you or will you enjoy, that if charged/ taken away would upset you.? Just trying to understand your mind set (not trying to be mean or judgmental nor disrespect you). Yes Disney is for children but it is also for adults( kids at heart ) as well. If adults want to have a drink on the verandah, how does this effect you( assuming no unruly behavior).

It's not just about this policy per say,it's about the erosion of perks that make this cruise line stand out.

To the OP: when you booked your cruise, the old alcohol policy was in place. Did you think you were booking a booze cruise then?

If you were so against the old policy why did you book with DCL in the first place?

There are still bars onboard and tasting classes, you know...drinking will still happen.

Good point.

Were you the one heckling me at the Margarita tasting on the Wonder to Alaska last year? I seriously had a lady ask me if I had kids on board (while giving me a very scowly face) when I volunteered to participate in the margarita drinking contest at the end. She must have missed the fact that SHE was at an alcohol tasting, too.

Anyway, it's not about drinking all the things. It's about the value proposition of the brand and they are eroding that by taking away many perks. This is just one of the last straws.

wow I am speechless over this story. How did you deal with it? I cannot even wrap my head around why some folks are so judgmental about legal adults consuming a legal beverage. I am positive that having a drink doesn't make you a bad parent and abstaining from drinking doesn't make you a good parent, so let's leave the judgement and shaming out of this.

The OPs "booze cruise" comment just cracks me up. Especially since OP has never set foot on a cruise ship before. Wife and I have been on 4 cruises (2 DCL, 1 Carnival and 1 Celebrity). Carnival is historically known for the "booze cruise" moniker due to their cheaper fares, but we didn't see a single disorderly drunk person on our cruise. The Celebrity we took in June for Alaska was full of people who received the beverage package for free (you could drink all the booze you could handle) and I did not see a single person who was disorderly. Haven't seen it on DCL either with the previous carry on policy. As others have mentioned, the ship is still full of bars and you can drink to your hearts content so this isn't about keeping people from drinking. It's a money grab, pure and simple. Also, as mentioned, this is a very hard policy for those of us into craft beers (which is becoming a large percentage of people) and most of them don't stick to the 12oz bottle/can system that the mainstream beer companies do. Not to mention you can hardly get any craft beer on a cruise ship.

Are you saying that if I like to drink while on my Disney Cruise that I am not taking a cruise for my kids?

Sounds like it. Anyway, I don't let my kids pick our vacations--we don't go on vacation just for them. We don't have enough money to go wherever our kids want whenever they want. We are the adults, we are paying for the trip, we decide where and how to vacation and while we make sure it's something the kids will enjoy (who wants unhappy kids on vacation), we also make sure it's somethjng we enjoy. And something I enjoy is a mini bottle of Baileys in some decaf after the kids go to bed. Well, I used to enjoy that. I guess not anymore. That should make some people happy, based on this thread. And--bonus--apparently it's making me a better parent! Thanks, DCL! ;)

If you skipping one cup of Baileys per night makes you a better parent, the amount we will be skipping must put us in line for world's greatest parents then. Thanks Disney for the forced alcoholic's intervention. I will forever be a better parent because of it. :rotfl2:

So, see, we really do ALL win when we let DCL make our decisions for us. I hope you get a really nice trophy when you win. Maybe you can have all the characters sign it on the cruise! Oh, wait...

It was bizarre! I was FAR from intoxicated. The whole room was like a bunch of dead fish - wouldn't interact with the CM, etc. My DH and I are social people and paid good money to enjoy the tasting so we were interacting, laughing, enjoying ourselves. I just laughed and told her "yes, and she's in the kids club having a blast like we are! I'm certain the captain won't let me drive, so I have no worries!" Why on earth would you go to an alcohol tasting (and purchase the tasting - I've seen others come with a spouse and not purchase the tasting if it isn't full) if you have a problem with people drinking?

You handled that so much better than I could have possibly! :worship:

Wait. There was margarita drinking contest? Damnit!

Dunno about you, but after a day of "entertaining" my 2 and 5 year old on vacation, a drink is necessary for me...to the benefit of the whole family!
