buckifan said:Jen, I read your PM, I'll have Rob read it tonight when he gets home. I'm sure he'll have some book recommendations for you. But don't get me started on The Da Vinci Code! Rob read it, and he thinks I'm a nut (LOL)! I've already warned him he's NOT going to see the movie. He's like "settle down, I already know what happens". But seriously, here's my problem with it......Not everyone is going to do the research that you have done. And unfortunately, I've begun to see the effects of the untruths seeping into society as truths. A boy in my PSR (Parish School of Religion) class announced one week that he heard "somewhere" that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. That makes me sad. Okay, I won't say anymore......I'm sure Rob will be rolling his eyes when he reads this!
On the subject of a family pix......we haven't had a pix taken together in a long time. I'm usually the one BEHIND the camera, so we end up with lots of photos with Rob and the kids, not many with me in them. I'll try to make a special effort to have someone take a pix of us soon. If everyone else gets them up there, it'll help remind me!
Deanna, I understand your apprehension when discussing the Da Vinci Code. I am aware of the controversy the book has caused among christians. It's unfortunate that not more people do the research. I personally think Dan Brown is a great writer. The book is fiction. It has never claimed otherwise. I'd like to start what I'm about to say with; I am a Catholic. I went to church every Sunday. I am well versed on the Catholic Doctrine. I, in the last five years (sparked by bitter feelings I had for the church) have done a lot of research on the bible and I have read it not only as a holy book but as a historical read as well. It is a sensitive subject for so many. I am in no way condemning believing in Jesus or what the bible preaches. Much good comes from religion and on the flip side almost every war ever fought was also over religion. I think the balance for humans is to not become self rightous in our beliefs as to ostracize others for their beliefs. We are living in difficult times and the fundamentals are basic. Be kind to one another. We all know where our hearts are and at the end of our lives we'll have the answers to all our thoughts. I commend you Deanna and everyone else that has such amazing faith. My jouney for knowledege in this subject will continue and in the meantime I know my heart is in good hands.
