Hakuna Matata - Scaring up Races and Spooking the competition!

Hi Everyone!!

Good morning!

I woke up with TIGHT hamstrings today and have been stretching like mad!

HockeyChick- I personally don't like Cinderella's Royal Table, it is overpriced for the food/service you get. If you want to see Princesses I suggest eating at Akshures (sp?) In Norway. If you are looking for others I'd try O'hana breakfast (tonga toast is a MUST!), 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian, or for a rootin' time Chef Mickeys!

I was planning on getting out this AM for a walk but it is raining! I'll try to head out after work, but if it is too dark (I get out at 7pm) I'll just stay at work and put in time on the treadmill!

Have a great day everyone!

Ended up NOT doing yoga this weekend. So much going on!! As my sister said when we talked Saturday afternoon, "When did YOU become the social one?" :lmao:

Saturday morning I went to running club's fun run, which was nice. I'm mainly running on my own at the moment because so many of them are now tapering for the NYC Marathon, but that's ok. I'm a big girl. After the bagel breakfast, I went down to Paragon Sports to get new goodies! I ran a 10K where they were a sponsor, and we got to take our bib in and enter a raffle for two #250 gift cards. And I won one of them!!!! I got 2 pair of capri running tights, a sports bra, a shirt, a running vest, 3 pair of socks (it was a pack), a headband, and 4 packs of mint chocolate GU (I'm stocking up to bring with me to the WDW Half). AND I've still got a little bit left over! WOOHOO! Go me!! Then I had to get wine for a auf weidersein (or however you spell it) party for a running club member who's moving to London. By the time I got home, I only had enough time to get a shower and cute-ify myself to head up to Harlem. Good times at the party!

Yesterday I thought I'd have time to do it, but I ended up staying after church to get trained as a thurifer (the person who gets to play with the incense!!!) which took a while. Then I just went straight to Trader Joe's for foodstuffs rather than going home and back out. So by the time I got home, again it was pretty late. Ah well.

Today will be a 40 minute 3:2 run - probably in the park closest to my apartment because I have writing class tonight (eek...part of my novel-in-progress is being critiqued, and I'm not feeling very confident given what other people in the class seem to like to read) and don't want to deal with subway rides back and forth.

Hope everyone's well!!

~beth

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend! The weather here was rainy and cold for the most part but I guess it IS the end of the October. The strange thing is that it's still damp this morning but surpringly warm.

Sue - How was your race this weekend? Did the rain hold off or was it rainy there?

Beth - I know a few writers and some people who use to work in the publishing industry. If you ever need some critique of your writing, I can forward their email addresses to you. Good luck with your run today!

Nikki - Welcome! One thing I don't like about winter (aside from the cold) is waking up in the dark and then going home from work in the dark. I'm training for the full in January so now I have some longer distances to run mid-week. But because it's dark (and I'm paranoid) I've had to adjust a few routes so that I'm on more major streets.

Kim - WTG on your 8 miler! With the weather the way it was this weekend, getting in miles was NOT easy. I did my 14 miler on Saturday afternoon and still got caught in the rain. For character dining, I'd suggest a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's (after 10:30 because the place clears out a little bit), the Crystal Palace or Tusker House. If you like, we could try going for drinks and appies at the California Grill. They have wonderful flatbreads, sushi and desserts...

es45 - How was your race in Myrtle Beach this weekend? Did you have good weather? Any pics of the bling?

Margie - I'll add Lululemon to the list. It's more popular in Canada than it is in the US but I have seen stores in NYC and DC and there are outlets in Woodbury and Orlando. Their clothes are designed for someone who's a little more on the slender side - like their running skirts are really short. But I love their colours and cut for some things. Their hoodies and yoga pants are also fabuluous!

AFM - I got in my 14 miler on Saturday afternoon. The pace was slow but still managed to keep it just under 11 m/m. I tried to avoid the rain but couldn't completely. So I was a little bit soggy and chilly by the end. I've got a couple of 5 milers and an 8 miler for my midweek runs as well as training and boxing.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Welcome Nikki!

Beth – Congrats on winning the gift card, sounds like you put it to good use! Good luck with your writing class tonight!

Dave – How did Sally like her first race?

Margie – The Veloswap is a combination of commercial bicycle companies and private people trying to sell stuff (new and used) related to bicycling. We did get good deals on socks – the going rate was $3 to $5/pair depending on the booth. We also got some team clothing – Garmin/Slipstream – for a very reasonable price. It motivated Scott to rebuild his old road bike – so that is what he spent the rest of the weekend doing. We spend about 3 hours at the show, then we stopped at Panera Breads for lunch on the way home. And, Yes, Scott has started his birthday week celebration as of yesterday!

Kim – good job on 8 miles anyway! It sounds like Nikki has some good suggestions for you – we do not eat out a lot at WDW so I am not as familiar with the character meals.

AFM – As Scott said, we did get out for a loop around the block with the dogs yesterday, we were hoping that weather would be better for a bike ride – weather did improve, but wind was blowing at over 20mph, which makes bike riding difficult. I spend most of the weekend working a needlepoint that needs to get finished as a Christmas present – and I still have a long way to go. Today, wind is blowing at 30+ mph, so do not know if I will get out to brave it with the dogs – they do not like to go outside in high wind either – but should at least get downstairs for spin bike and Pilates.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

My son sent this to me, passing it on so all of you continue to train.

http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2010/10/22/marathon-heart-damage.html

Vicky, on a different note, my dear grand daughter Josie came over yesterday with Miranda and she was singing the Bunny-foo song to her. It reminded me of the night we met in 2008 at the dessert party.

I have not read all your posts but will try to do so this week. It’s been crazy, but I continue to work out and feel good. I am not training for the ½ :( as I have to save my $$ and points for Nick and Hope’s wedding 12/1/2011 :yay::yay::yay:

Have a good day everyone, continue to train, it could save your life

Hi Team! Can’t believe it’s been over a week since I’ve checked in!

Vicky- My knees ok. It wasn’t hurting at all, but I noticed while I was running the 5k that it was a little tender. I’ll have to keep an eye on it I guess. I know this is late but great race report from your zoo run! Way to go on your 14 miler!

Margie- I’m glad you found a CPR and First Aid training and that it went well! When is registration open for, is it Kalamazoo?? How did DD’s appt go?

Scott- I’m glad the Denver half went well! I agree- weekends are definitely way too short.

Dave- I’m glad things are going well with the move into your new home with Sally!

Lynn- Congrats on finishing the Denver half! Even better that you were way ahead of the sweepers and that Scott joined you for the last little bit! I hope spin bike and pilates went well today!

Sue- Welcome back! I’m glad you guys had a great trip to the world!

Denise- How exciting your son got to be involved DWTS! That’s very cool!

Nikki- Welcome to the team!!! Happy to have you with us!!!

When does Mike get back from vacation?

AFM, I did the Barber to Boise 5k with Girls on the Run. The girls did awesome and seemed to have a lot of fun. They finished inside Boise State University’s stadium on the blue turf and seemed to think that was pretty cool! I ran with a couple of the girls and kept pace with them. They took a few walk breaks but they weren’t scheduled at all. I was hoping to get back into my running last week, but alas it just didn’t happen. I was supposed to start my new job today, but apparently there were some payroll issues or something and they couldn’t figure out how to start me in the middle of a pay period, so I am starting next Mon, 11/1/10 instead. So in the meantime all the appointments I was expecting to cancel I’ve ended up keeping and am scrambling to make sure all my stuff is in order for whoever takes over my stuff. Which means I’ve also been working later to than I expected to be. Oh well, only 4 more days left!!! I’m still looking forward to it! I have set a goal to go run on Friday- if everyone would please keep their fingers crossed for me that I make it out for my run I’d appreciate it! I’ve got to get back into it if I expect to be prepared for the princess half in February. :rotfl:

This is another of those days where I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep for a while. Now I'm up and have to go to work and already feel sleepy. That's bad because after a 12 hour shift I have to make the 2 and a half hours home.

We are having tornado and thunderstorm warnings all around but currently we are not getting anything at all. I hope it holds off till Im home in bed tonight.

Thinking that Sally and I will get our marriage license tomorrow and maybe even find a justice of the peace and get it done. We shall see. First I have to meet my walkers for a good 6 mile training walk.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Regina – good to see you back – I will keep my fingers crossed for that Friday run! Good luck with the new job!

Nikki – Stay safe also with the big storm (our news was saying the worst storm in 70 years – maybe that will mean it will die out)

Dave – Looks like you will be getting some serious weather – stay safe!

Margie – yes, it is our storm from the weekend that you are getting now – stay safe!

Denise – interesting article.

Beth – good luck with your races!

AFM – I did make it to the spin bike for 55 min. yesterday but not to the Pilates tape. It is still windy and cold today – although sunny. We did get some snow last night, but just a dusting – not the 4 inches they were predicting last week. My weather station says the chill index is 7 degrees! The TV weather report said 18 degrees – maybe my wind is higher than in town where their readings are taken. Actual temp is 32 degrees, wind is 25-30mph. Yesterdays max gust was 55 mph, sustained were 30 mph. I will try to get out today with the dogs, at least the sun is out. They have been happy with the rides in the car – they got 2 yesterday.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hi everyone! It is strangley warm in Toronto today - 16C or 61F. I wish this could last for the rest of winter. I plan to go home after work and do a quick 3-4 miler. My knee is feeling a little achy, not the usual ache but the pain feels like it's similar to a shin splint but right below my knee cap. So I'm back to see my chiro tonight and she's going to do a treatment on it. Then I'm back out on Saturday/Sunday to ruin things again with a 15 miler

Lynn - It feels like it's too early to say the dreaded 'S' word. Keep warm during your walks with the wind! Are your pups loving the cooler weather?

Dave - Stay safe! I hope the weather doesn't turn out to be too bad. Whenever I'm up late, I always end up chatting with a friend on FB in another time zone. I've heard that whenever you wake up like that in the middle of the night, it means there's something on your mind.

Margie - I'm going to my first boxing session on Wednesday. I'll let you know how it goes. Between the training, treatments and boxing session, it seems I'll be in the gym everyday this week. My ankle seems to be stable - no worse and no better. I think it's one of those injuries where I really need to stop running in order for it to get better...

Sue - Have you decided if you're going to do the Whitby Waterfront 10 miler?

Regina - Finishing a race in a stadium sounds cool! WTG on the 5K! Keep icing your knee if you're feeling pain. Sorry to hear about the payroll issues. You'd think with the government, they'd be able to figure that out. Oh well. I hope your week doesn't get too hectic and you're able to go running on Friday.

Denise - Interesting article! Every so often at the WISH meets, I'll get someone who'll come up to me and sing the Little Rabbit Foofoo song. I think it's cute! I hope we're able to hang out again at one of the WISH meets. I can't wait to see how big Princess Josie is :)

AFM - Not much of import to report. I'm looking for a pair of compression capris. Does anyone have a brand or style that they prefer? My chiro suggested they might be good for running in because of my knees. I also started running in compression socks which seem to be good for my ankles.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hello Honorary Team!!! I hope the day is treating you well!!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes!

Beth- How fun to live in NYC! Sorry your group is tapering! Sometimes it can be nice to just be out there alone....with just your head to talk to! Congrats on the major gift card win!!! I'm in need of some new gear and could really use a freebie like that!

Vicky- I'm starting to think that my solo workouts will be done in my parents neighborhood. It is well lit and goes around a lake. Another thing I like about it is I really KNOW the area and feel safe! 14 miles:yay: Way to go!!!!

I need some good running tights too! If you find some you like let me know! Sorry to hear about your knees acting up. When you see the chiro what type of treatments do they do for your knees? I'm a Physical Therapy Assistant Student and that interests me.

Lynn- I hope your wind died down! I know it is REALLY windy here in Michigan today! Along Lake Michigan there are gale warnings out! Just 1 step below a hurricane! Sorry it is getting so cold out! I can't believe we have not had snow yet in my part of MI!!! I remember so many times trick-or-treating in the snow!

Regina- Nice to meet you! Girls on the run is such a great organization isn't it!! Congrats on the new job!!! Only 2 days till Friday! I know you can get out there and get that run in!

Margie- Had a great time this AM!! Details below. My hamstrings are a bit better! I just keep stretching them! Funny how gardening can be such a workout!

Dave- sorry about the sleep thing! Congrats on the marriage license!

AFM- Finally got in my first workout of the week today! I have just been so busy with school and work! If only there was more daylight I'd be out there more!

Margie and I got up before sunrise and got in a good walk! Hit up the local trail and saw Many (probably 6) deer in different spots!

Time 32 minutes
Distance 2.01 miles
Average Pace 15.20
Best pace 11:55

Check out the interactive map!

Days left until WDW 1/2 73!!!!

Good morning team! It's another sunny day here!

Nikki - Last night, my chiro did a Graston treatment on my knee, ART (Active Release Therapy) and a knee adjustment. I think it was suppose to be a half hour treatment but it turned into an hour. I think the whole knee pain started back after I ran my 30K race in August. This latest bout of knee pain is kind of weird. I only get it from putting direct pressure on the knee - so walking up and downstairs, doing lunges and squats, jumping etc. I told my chiro it feels like shin split pain but just right below my knee.

AFM - Got a treatment (or several depending on how you look at it) on my knee last night. Did a Graston treatment which involves using metal instruments to "scrape" away scar tissue. That's a really simple explanation. My chiro also did ART and an adjustment. So there's a bit of bruising today but my knee feels better. She also said no running until the weekend. So I'll do my 15 miler and try to get in a 4 miler as well. I've got my boxing session tonight and I'll post tomorrow about it. I'm a little bummed about the running because the weather is so nice this week. Oh well. Gotta let these things heal properly.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

I hope everyone is safe after yesterdays storm!

Vicky - the best compression tights I have used are CWX, and I believe they make a capri. I have seen them at Runningwearhouse.com. Lately I have been wearing a running skirt with capris - SkirtGoddess.com - can't remember the name of the skirt. Dogs like cold weather, but they do not like the wind, they have spent most of their time in the house the last 2 days!

Nikki - It is still cold and windy, yesterdays max gust was 56.1 mph, and every time I looked at the weather station, the wind was blowing harder than 30mph.

AFM - because of the wind, never made it out for a walk (I know I have to face the winter wind some day, just not ready for it yet). I spent most of the day trying to replace a corningware roaster that I dropped and broke on Monday - it was a large baking pan that we used for lots of stuff like casseroles, lasagna, etc. Never could find a pan large enough in any of the local stores, largest I could find was 9X13. So, when I finally got home, ordered one from the internet. Today, I am hoping to get outside for a walk.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi Nikki! Thanks ~ yeah, I'm totally spoiled to living here. Eh...it's fun to hang with the runners anyway. And for some of them, my pace and distance is where they've tapered to. LOL. In two years that will be me! Long-term goals are the 2012 Disney Full and then the 2012 NYC Marathon! (Since I joined NYRR, as long as I maintain my membership and then in 2011 run 9 qualifying races and volunteer at one, I'll get a guaranteed entry into the 2012 NYC!)

Monday was one of those magical run days - kept my pace pretty constant (within a minute each lap), felt great, no need to slow to a walk during a run interval. If only all my race days could go like that!!

Yesterday was a cross-training day for me, and I had to fight with myself to do ANYTHING! Ended up going to the gym and doing 30 minutes on the cybex x-trainer because I'm just too proud to go in, piddle around for 5 or 10 minutes, and walk past the SAME people who were at the desk when I walked in. If I go, I'm doing something for at least 30 minutes.

Today's a scheduled rest day. Woo!

I did have to laugh at myself this morning and say "Ok Beth, you're clearly a 'real' runner now!" when I was on the forums for National Novel Writing Month (insanity of writing a 50,000 word novel in the month of November) and saw a thread titled "Day One 5K Dash!" and my first thought was "Ooh, another race! Where is it?" They meant writing 5000 words on day one. LOL.

Have a great day all!!
