Beth- updated your races-
Did I miss the post on "Salsa Dancing Night"?

Connie- Question:
Connie would like to know is anyone has Windows 7…
And if so what are your thought on it?

Denise-:thanks: interesting article on fitness & our heart.

Gerry- added you for the WDW Marathon Weekend-Mickey,
but will need a date to add the Celebration 5k.

Kim- You were up early :goodvibes
I am not crazy about the shorter daylight hours this time of year.

Lynn-almost missed your post yesterday!
You posted after I had read and was getting ready to post.
I tried the CW-X Ventilator tights, but they had a seam that bothered me.
The Ventilator shorts look great.

Updated the Favorite Supplies list (Post #157)
with your Favorite-

This wind is fierce-it seems like it has blown at high speed for days!

Nikki-have a great day...hope to see you in the morning.
Do you have Sweet Little Olivia tonight? :littleangel:

Margie ~ No...salsa didn't happen that night. The band leader was sick and the others who were going had other stuff come up. I ended up going to see Billy Elliot to see a friend of mine who's in it. Maybe country line dancing on the 13th...we'll see about that though.

Today's a run day - it's looking pretty, so I'll likely head to Prospect Park. We shall see.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Good Morning Team!

Margie - I have CWX ventilator tights, and the regular (original) tights. They seemed to have more compression than the other tights I have. I do have a pair of skins - which I use more for long plane flights than I do walking in :rotfl: Exactly what is a "normal day" for you?

Beth - that was funny about the 5K!

Gerry - good deal signing up for races!

AFM - the wind has finally stopped, it is eerily quiet this morning, after 3 days of high wind, and this morning, not a breath of wind! So, I will finally get out with the dogs! Yesterday I did my Pilates tape and rode the spin bike for 20 min. Have to get Scott's birthday cake made today!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Anyone have fun plans for Halloween this weekend?

Scott - Happy birthday! Is it your 25th? ;)

Margie - Does normal mean less kids? :) Thanks for the recommendation on tights. I'll have to get my butt over to a running store to try them out. The compression socks I have are from RunningSkirts.com I haven't tried out any other brand yet.

Lynn - WTG on the pilates and bike! We had some windy weather here. What kind of cake are you making?

Gerry - Congrats on registering for the races! I hope to meet you in January!

Connie - How are things with you?

AFM - I'm grounded from running this week. I had a long treatment session on my knee on Tuesday. My chiro was concerned because I was having knee pain from doing lunges and squats while we were training on Monday. So she did a Graston treatment, ART and an adjustment. Graston is kind of a different treatment - she uses dull ended metal instruments to "scrape" away at scar tissue. It's kind of an odd sensation because you can feel the tool going over uneven surfaces. I think I'm good to run my 15 miler this weekend but will have to talk to her later.

I did my boxing session last night - didn't get a chance to skip rope or jump around but we worked on technique. Remember the movie the Karate Kid from the eighties? It was a little bit like that. I didn't realize how much technique was involved but I figure it's better to learn how to do things properly than to get injured. The trainer also complimented my old PT on all the work that we were doing - deadlifting, core work, kettlebell swings, lunges, squats etc. And here my PT was telling me that nobody ever looked at anyone else while they were working out. Ha!

Eating has been so-so ... I definitely notice it more on the weeks where I don't or can't run. I'm going to try and clean it up for next week ... although... I have this cake decorating class I'm going to on Tuesday. It's just a fun one time thing but they send you home with the cake! Yikes! Oh well... I never did get a birthday cake

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey Vicky! No plans here for Halloween - probably just holing up in my apartment. Less risk of running into mayhem that way (given that the old school I worked at 4 blocks from my apartment would do "rapid dismissal" on Halloween when it was on a school day so that the kids could get safely home, I figure the possibility for mayhem is probably high).

Sending out good vibes for your knee!!

And the boxing sounds fun! I really want to find a place for kickboxing! Love it!

Hello Team,

Sorry that I've been MIA for awhile, things have been really busy since we have been back from WDW. I tried posting while we were there, spent a good hour and a half writing two race reports and it disappeared when I hit submit. Really agravating, especially after paying the 9.95 to access the internet.
I still have to catch up on everyones posts, so I hope everyone is well. Since I was last here alot has happened for us. My second cousin died from his stroke, he was 33. Unfortunately, I have been unable to make it down to Phoenix to see our family. It's very sad because he leaves a wife with a toddler.

We have had alot going on at home. I have run my third half marathon in three weeks. We have been busy planning Robert's 5th birthday party. The storm came through and took down a number of branches from our trees which we still have to clean up. I have to replace, finally, some drywall in our living room ceiling from a past roof leak while I am off this weekend. And, Halloween trick or treating is on the agenda. Next weekend is the Hot Chocolate 15K in downtown Chicago.

Quick race reports to replace those lost in cyberspace: The Prairie State half marathon almost beat me. I wasn't prepared with rest or properly fueled, suffered from muscle cramps and a hamstring that hobbled me.
Volunteering at the Chicago marathon was really a great experience. I highly recomend helping out at major race. I lost my camera while at WDW, which had the marathon pictures on it . The Kenyans and Ethiopians are machines. Really cool to be only feet from them as they ran by.
I was more successful at the Moraine Hills half marathon. My time was longer, but I felt much better at the finish. It had many, many steep hills and declines in a beautiful state park near here. I will be going back there to train. It rained during most of the race but it was fun.

I've haven't been training much. It's been so busy, that it's sleep a few hours or train. Sleep has won out. This weekend I will get back on track as we complete some of our chores around the house.

Hope everyone is doing great, Mike :cool2:

I just have to share...

I am soooo proud of myself with my run today!!! I went to Prospect Park to run - my standard practice on Thursday (though next week that will change because of a concert I'm going to). It's good enough that I ran all of my running intervals without dropping to a walk during any of them.

It's made BETTER by the fact that one of those segments was entirely on this hill I not-so-affectionately call "the beast" (it's long and somewhere between gradual and steep)! AND I kept an average pace of 12:42 during that interval!!!! And my next running interval started still on the beast, but I ran!

I'm really excited I finally got my brain out of the way and did it!!!

~beth

PS ~ I also decided to enter the lottery for the NYC Half Marathon! I'll find out sometime after 11:59pm on November 15. Their words are "late November". I've got some other ideas for a spring half, so I will try to not be too disappointed if I don't get drawn. It's totally random, so there's nothing for me to get down on myself about if my number doesn't come up. Please to remind me of that if in fact I don't make it??

Hi, everyone!

I wanted to update you all on my experience with the Coastal 5k in Myrtle Beach last weekend. I had a lot of fun and shaved 2 minutes off my PR in spite of having a "wardrobe malfunction," as my husband called it, with my shoe chip timer. Being a newbie, I didn't realize that it went on the shoe and left it on my race bib. Another runner was kind enough to point out my mistake and so I stopped and attached it. It took a few minutes to get it off the bib, figure out how to attach and get it on the laces properly. Oh well, I learn something new with every race.:thumbsup2

I ran a bit with Getnthinr after noticing her WISH race shirt, she is sweet. Saw a few other WISH shirts but didn't get to speak to anyone else. I enjoyed the 5k so much that I signed up for the half in 2011. They have a great early bird promotion right now. The weather was perfect and I thought it was well organized in spite of being an inaugural race.

Here's a pic of the finisher's medal from the 5k that I got off another thread. I chose not to buy a photo from the race ($49!) and somehow my DH missed me crossing the finish line.

medal5k.jpg

Can't wait to add that Princess Half medal in February!

Happy Birthday to Scott and Good Luck with the lottery to Beth!

Vicky- Thanks for the info on the Graston technique. Sounds similar, but more aggressive, to a technique we do at our office called ASTYM. I looked up to see if there are any Graston PTs in my area and there are not! (maybe something I can specialize in!) I hope the knees are feeling good! Make sure to listen to your chiro! No running means no running! If you see the chiro again make sure he knows how far you are planning to go, he might set some limitations on that too! Better healthy than injured!

Lynn- I hope the winds have calmed down! I know it is better here now! My leaves are all at the road for pick up tomorrow! I am hoping that the wind stays low until the big trucks come and get them! Did the dogs like finally being able to get out and walk?? What type of dogs do you have! We are looking to expand our "farm" and I want a dog that is a good running buddy....for when Margie and I can't get together!

Beth- Way to have a perfect run day!! I only wish I had more of those! I like to think I'm saving them for the end of training and the WDW 1/2! Good luck on the novel! I had a classmate participate in that a few years ago and she had a blast! Way to be on another great run!!!! You tackle that Beast!!!

Scott- :cheer2::cheer2:HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Margie- Olivia and I had fun today!!! (Olivia is my 2 month old niece). We went for a RUN today after I finally figured out her jogging stroller!! It was funny because every time I was running she was giving me a funny look that read "you are crazy!" See you tomorrow!

Mike- Nice to meet you!! Sorry everything seems gunked up right now! I hope things start going better for you! 3 1/2s in 3 weeks!!! You are one dedicated runner!!!

ES45- Awesome Medal!!!!

AFM- I got out and did a walk run with my little niece Olivia today! It was cooler but I got done before the rain! I am a little 'off' schedule for this week. I did Mondays workout on Wed, and did Wednesday's workout today!
It called for 20 minutes run/walk with running for as much as possible. I think I did pretty well! I'm meeting with Margie tomorrow morning to actually get Friday's workout in on Friday! Then I will be all caught up!

I have another BIG test for my Physical Therapy Assistant class next week so this weekend will be spent studying! Just have to keep telling myself it will be over soon and I'll be doing what I love!

Week 4 Workout 2!
WOD: Rest day, modified because I missed Monday and am behind this week. Did Wed workout today.
Time: 35 minutes
Distance:2.15 miles
Average Pace 15.44
...Best pace 9:12

ANIMATED MAP OF MY RUN!

Today was my first Walk/Run! I think I did pretty good!
DAYS LEFT: 72!!!

Thanks Nikki! I was really happy about it ~ especially since Monday went pretty well too. I haven't usually had 2 really good runs "in a row" (meaning run day...run day with stuff in between), so the fact that I did today makes me know I can!!

And I just noticed in your ticker that we're both going to be doing our first Half together! Yay!!

Beth!!

I'm so excited the have you as a first time 1/2 marathoner buddy!!! I am getting so geeked about it!!! Glad I finally have a place to stay! Now I just need a rental car and a "Filler" hotel around our friends time share! We are hoping to stay at the AKL. Where are you staying?

Happy Birthday Scott, I'm still 2 weeks more experienced than you.

I had a nice 5 mile walk this morning while Sally did her first water Zumba class. I think it's some sort of Watusi tribal mating dance done in a pool. They dress in feathers and wild animal skins and make lots of noise anyway.

She is trying yoga tomorrow or sleeping in, she hasn't decided yet.

Woohoo Nikki!! :cool1:

I'll be staying with my sister. She's a CM and had gotten me a really good rate at CBR, but ultimately decided that FREE is even better! I'm running with a friend of hers - I think...he's going to have to slow down for me though. LOL. Right now our (me and sis) only plans are walking the 5K on Friday morning, then hitting the expo. After that we're not sure. Saturday is obvious - and we'll probably grab breakfast, go to her house to let me soak in an ice bath real quick, and then hit a park to keep moving. Some kind of celebratory dinner that night. Then Sunday morning we're doing brunch at Cape May Cafe and I fly back in the afternoon. SOOOOOOO psyched!!

And I'll just add on my today info since I'm the last post on here. :P

First off... I've now lost 27.2 pounds!!!! This week was 5.2 dropped. I'm attributing it largely to that water pill my doctor put me on because eating and exercise were about the same (actually there was at least one extra splurge day in there since I had running club parties two nights in a row). I'll keep an eye on it and if that level continues for much longer, I'll call and ask about it. Because I know you don't want to consistently drop numbers like that - especially when you've got under 100 or more to lose.

Today will be a cross-training day for me. I'll probably do Jillian Michaels' Banish Fat Boost Metabolism so I don't have to go to the gym. And even though it's the same length as No More Trouble Zones, it feels like it goes quicker...probably because it's more aerobic. Plus BFBM burns a lot more calories and I plan on getting Chinese tonight (I wanted it last night, but held off to avoid the sodium content just before a weigh-in.), so that gives me more of a cushion. Hee! Then I'm going to see the off-Broadway play "Love, Loss, and What I Wore" which is sooooo good. I won 2 tickets, but no one seems to be available to go with me. :( Oh well...their loss!!

Tomorrow is running club. It'll be GREAT tomorrow because we're going to be filming a clip for the "It Gets Better" campaign ~ the one that's supporting LGBTQ youth in the face of all the bullying that's been going on. Some of us will be filmed individually - I'm not sure how it's being decided, but I'm going to be brave and step up if they're asking for volunteers. I was horribly bullied in junior high and high school - not for my sexuality, which I wasn't really dealing with then, but for basically just existing. I haven't opened up a lot about it, but I'm willing to now and for this because literally there but for the grace of God I could have easily been a suicide from bullying.

And on that cheery note... (sorry!) Have a magical day!!

Happy Friday everyone! Just putting in a quick post before I move off to a meeting...

Margie - pixiedust: for your little one with the fever. Be careful and wash your hands though. And  and pixiedust: for Sara. I am definitely resting today and the weekend. At first I hated the idea of *just* running a slow 5K but then I thought of all the extra time I had so I can now finish reading my book, go shopping and hang out with friends! Yay!

Beth - First off, congrats on your weight loss! You have had some fantastic results. Years ago when I was doing WW, I would avoid high sodium meals and eating meat a day or two before my weigh-in for the same reason. So I hope you enjoy your Chinese food tonight - sounds delish! Sorry to hear about the bullying when you were younger. I had a few instances of bullying but did stand up for myself. But... that was back before the Internet and kids started bring weapons to school. Participation in the campaign sounds like a positive step!

Dave - I hope Sally's yoga class goes well. I might be trying one this weekend as well since I'm grounded from running. How's your training for January coming along?

Nikki - I can put you in touch with my chiro if you have any questions about certifying for Graston. She's super nice and really friendly! She's also certified for ART, accupuncture and a personal trainer so I think she'd be a great person to talk to. Are you going to the WISH meet in January? I hope I get a chance to meet you there :)

es45 - Great medal! I love the coloured medals - I don't think I have one yet. Very nice of the other runners to stop and tell you about the chip. I think it would be so much easier if the number was just left on the bib.

Mike - Try doing your posts on MS Word or saving them onto an Outlook email. I've had crashes with IE where I've lost really long posts. It's so frustrating! Congrats on running 3 1/2 marathons! You must be getting quite the collection of medals! Good luck on the Hot Chocolate 15K! It sounds like fun... mostly because of the hot chocolate. *lol*

AFM - I'm restricted to running 5K this weekend. I was a little bummed out at first but I think of all the extra time I'm going to have. So maybe it's not a bad thing. I'm going to try and get out for a yoga class so that should be fun. I'm going in for another treatment on Monday and I'm hoping to be cleared to run next weekend! Yay!

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky – the cake is a “from scratch” chocolate cake that was Scott’s Grandmothers recipe. It makes a 9X9 cake, and, of course, I make it in a Mickey head pan. Have fun at your cake decorating class. Hope your knee feels better.

Mike – good to hear from you! You have been busy! With 3 half marathons in 3 weeks, I am not sure that there is any need for more training in between! Sleep is very important to training!

Elizabeth – Good job on the race!

Nikki – we have 2 malamutes (mother and daughter) – they did enjoy their walk, they are great dogs but do come with issues (lots of hair, very independent, often do not play well with other dogs unless very well socialized). They do make good running buddies.

Dave – good to see you back! I hear Zumba is lots of fun but not good on the knees, very high impact (of course, if it is in a pool, it could not be high impact).

Margie – What a “normal” day! Yes, Scott got his favorite cake and seemed to have a good day.

Beth – congrats on your run! Good luck on the lottery! Congrats on your weight loss! That is very impressive!

AFM – Finally got out for a walk, we did 3 miles yesterday! The wind did pick up a little, but 15mph felt like a light breeze after the last 3 days! Today we are have a “retirement” party for one of Scott’s employees, started cleaning house yesterday, need to finish up today, do some last minute shopping, and get the trees watered, as today will be the warmest this week (69 degrees forecast). Because of time constraints, I will put off my long walk until Monday, but will get in our normal 3 miles.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!
