Hakuna Matata - Scaring up Races and Spooking the competition!

Hi guys it's your friendly neighborhood crazy panda. A bit crazier than usual actually since I'm in the middle of a huge life change. I do believe I'll survive though, but will Sally?:cloud9:

We discovered the first morning in our new house that the down stairs heat doesn't work, so we have the warranty people coming on monday.

I think we have more to do projects than we will ever have time and money for.

I did get in a good half hour walk tonight, it was dark so I did laps around the Toyota dealer next to the hotel.

Scott that was great that you went back for Lynn. It it very satisfying crossing the finish with someone special to you. Makes a wonderful memory.

Morning everyone!

Yesterday was a SRD for me. Today is 40 minutes of 3:2 intervals. Woohoo!!

Ended up just seeing a couple of shows - they were good, but...I don't know...I guess I'm getting kinda burned out with so much theatre? Anyway...overall it was fun.

The hip is feeling better - it's my back out of alignment, but it's my hip that's pulling. Hopefully the visits this week will take care of it.

Hope everyone has a great day!

WTG with your 40 minutes of Intervals!
What is SRD? (type of rest day?)

Connie-

Dave-Not sure if anyone answered your question about Kirstie
but you will probably see her in January. Mike talked to her, and
Vickie said she is still racing, but still has chair problems.

Very Nice you had so much help on moving day!
And it is way good you discovered the problem with the furnace
before it gets really cold!

Ahhhh the normal life of a 'Home Owner' is filled with
more repairs and upkeep than money and time! :rolleyes1

Denise-WTG nice to get in both the weight routine
and a 4-mile walk!
Congratulations on your Weight Loss- I updated the weight chart.

Lynn-Congratulations on a Great Race!
Any problems with your knee?

Regina-Congratulations!
I know you said 1 1/2 weeks but whenyou you start the new

Scott-Congratulations on a Great Race!

Good Morning Team!

Beth – glad to hear your chiropractor is keeping you in good shape!
Vicky – I don’t do naps, I always feel worse, so I grin and bare it! Scott posted a picture of the medal on FB.

Dave – Glad to hear that you got moved in – it took us a couple of months to get thru all those “boxes in the garage”. It was nice of Scott to come back for me, we may even have a finish picture of us together over the finish line!

Margie – knee did not hurt until after the race – then I could barely bend it to get into the shower!

Connie – Scott always manages to drag his birthday out for at least a week, sometimes longer!

Denise – sounds like a great weekend – congrats on the continued weight loss!

AFM – Scott and I survived the Denver Rock n Roll ½ marathon, it was fun. I guess I did not eat enough for breakfast because I felt like I was running on empty after about mile 6, but I kept on. Scott came back to meet me on one of the turnarounds, and we walked together the last half of the race. I started out really strong, my first mile was at a 15:13 pace, but I went down hill from there. Speaking of down hill – what is really nice about this race is that the last mile (maybe 2 miles) is all down hill! It was a very nice route, thru several parks and older sections of town with nice houses. There are lots of older buildings in downtown Denver, great architecture! We finished the race in 3 hours 42 minutes, way ahead of the sweepers in this race (there was a 4 hour limit on the half).

Cloudy and rainy here today, but is supposed to clear up later, so will take dogs at least around the block later. Cold weather today – high 49 degrees, but warming into the 60’s for the rest of the week.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I did my ZooRun 10K on Saturday. Here's a quick race report:

I woke up at 6:45AM and started getting prepared - the usual eating, making sure I had all my gear with me... I made a PB & grape jelly bagel to go but didn't let the bagel cool down enough so the PB&J leaked out. It made a big mess in the sandwich bag. And then someone ... Miss Eva ... sent me the peanut butter jelly song which I can't get out of my head

Anyway, I left my house at about 7:30 and made it close zoo at about 7:40 but there were some road closures this weekend which meant everyone was running late. The road going into the zoo was so backed up that by the time we parked and walked over to the start, they had let the elite runners go. I wasn't even in the corral yet but it was okay because they seemed to be holding everyone else back. I jumped in just as they were letting the other runners go and I was off. I didn't get a chance to warm up but that's okay because I usually don't  I heard an announcement saying that the start line would stay open until 8:40AM but I have no idea if that was enough time to accommodate all the people still stuck in their cars. I saw a lot of people getting out and running to the start line.

The course was really crowded - it starts in the parking lot of the zoo and then goes to the outside streets that border the zoo and then back into the zoo. People were just running all over the place and it was really hard to pass people because parts of the course had two way traffic. I nearly smashed into one runner who just as he was exiting the parking lot decided to stop suddenly and declare "Man, I'm so tired!". You can't be tired - we weren't even 1/2 a mile out yet. :headache:  Later on in the course, another runner was chatting with her friend and must have been having an animated conversation because all of a sudden she started waving her arms and stuck both of them out in front of her. I saw people having to dodge around her.

I saw quite a few animals - zebras, elephants, giraffes and polar bears. I thought they might get some better times if they let the lions out  How does the saying go - you don't have to be the fastest, just as long as you're not the slowest. I ended up walking a few times during the race. It was a result of not having run much for about 2 weeks since the half. The course was also a lot more hilly than I remembered it. My only complaint aside from the crowding was that the volunteers were calling the sports drink Gatorade. I drank some half way through to see if it would give me a bit of a kick. It gave me a stomach cramp for the last half and I couldn't figure out why. After I finished - there were volunteers handing out drinks. I noticed they were filling the "Gatorade" cups with Powerade! Ah-ha! Gatorade is not the same thing as Powerade…

Anyway I finished with a time of 58:49 which is a course PB. Last year, I finished the course in 1:00. Considering my knee, the hills and not having run for about two weeks, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Margie - Glad to hear you got a deal on the boots! Kids outgrow clothing so quickly, you need to get deals on whatever you can. I missing the morning sunshine when I run during the weekdays but there's something I like about running in the dark. I just have to be a little more careful of the sidewalk cracks and dips. How did you niece do on her half?

Dave - Hope you're able to fix the furnace before it gets too chilly. Is it still warm where you are? A friend of mine in DC says the weather there is still relatively nice. KY is south of DC?

Denise - Congrats on your 7lb loss! You'll be at 10 lbs in no time at all! Sounds like you had a busy weekend! Free fries are so tempting - I don't know if I would have been able to resist.

Scott - WTG on your half! How did you manage to add an extra 3+ miles onto your race? Was the Garmin off or did you count the miles that you did when you went back for Lynn? Safe travels to LA!

Lynn - Congrats on the half and finishing ahead of the sweepers! I will have to go and check out your FB pic.

Beth - Yes, that is the race I saw on TV last year. I wished we did something like that here in Toronto. It looks like a lot of fun! I'm glad that your chiro says that you can keep running. Make sure to take it easy though.

AFM - I'm getting my eating back on track and now that my knee is feeling better. I'm going to try increasing the mileage. For those of you training for the full in January… are we on week 7? I think I should be okay to jump back into the program here. I did a half race about two weeks ago and a 10K on the weekend. I'm following Higdon's plan which calls for a LR of 14 miles this Sunday. I may pull it down to 12 but depending on how I feel, I'm going to give the 14 a shot. I've got training at the gym tonight and I'm hoping to get out tomorrow morning for a 4 miler.

Hope everyone is having a great day! :wave2:

Well it was just announced that for the second year in a row there will be no cost of living allowance for retired military members and for elderly people drawing social security. With all the money being spent for bail outs of banks, the stimulus scam and cap and trade scandal, this is a slap in the face from the government to it's citizens. Grrrrrrrrr!!

Sorry about being negative but I really needed to vent that.

Vicky we are chilly in the mornings right now down in the 30s. There were supposed to come to day and fix the heat but they rescheduled for wednesday since the tech called in sick. Then the cable came and turned off our cable by mistake, he was supposed to disconnect a house on the next block.

Have a restful evening y'all. I'm going to bed, tomorrow is a long day then a long drive home.

Dave:hippie:

Margie ~ Sorry! Yes, SRD is "scheduled rest day". I'm also on the Runners World forums, and everything's all acronyms over there.

Had a good run yesterday - I felt like I went faster than usual...which I did running. I need to pick up my walking pace though. I mean, I'm still well under the 16 minute mile pace...but I'd like to be even further below so I can build up a nice cushion. :rotfl:

Hoping I can get to bed a little earlier tonight - two late nights make mornings HARD! Also hoping my new backdoor neighbors don't decide to watch another movie at top volume at 4am tomorrow. If that happens I might have to get in the shower and "forget" that my alarm clock is on snooze. Hee hee!

Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning guys.

I'm headed home tonight after work. It will be good to get back and be with my lady again. I'm meeting my walkers in the morning for a good training walk, I'm determined not to let the endless house projects affect my training, they will get done without being the controlling factor of our lives.

Sally and I are doing a 10K on Saturday morning, it will be her first time at that distance. Then we have to get her trained for the half in January. We can do this...

Have an awesome day y'all.

Good Morning Team!

Haven't had the chance to catch up & to read all the back posts.

Beth, :welcome:

Vicky, Lynn, Scott, Congrats on your great race results & reports.

AFM, Had a great couple of days at the parks. Did MNSSHP (hadn't done that in 5 yrs). Rode Kali 3 times. DD & I got socked everytime. DH got wet from a few sprinkles. Ate way too much. Went to KSC (hadn't done that in many yrs.) Spent the rest of the time at Disney's Vero Beach Resort. Wow we  this resort. Again ate way too much. Loved all the fresh seafood etc. We had fabulous weather, 85 & sunny everyday except 1 day of cloud. Got in some great running at VWL & along A1A when at Vero.

Have a great day everyone. Many work emails to get caught up on..........Sue

Good Morning Team!

Vicky – great race report, I think a Zoo run sounds like so much fun, I will have to see if the Denver Zoo does one. Scott’s extra miles are from when he came back to walk with me – and look for his pictures on FB, he is the one who posted the medal for the half.

Beth – Good job on your run – hope your neighbors let you sleep!

Dave – Hope you got your cable back and do not have to wait for them to reschedule to come back and turn yours back on!

Margie – Knee has not been bad, I have been taking Advil on a regular basis, but it did not even bother me when I sat last night working on my needlepoint. Glad to hear you were able to schedule the fire station tour!

Sue – sounds like you had a great trip!

AFM – I never did make it outside for a walk yesterday, it did not clear up until after 6pm, I got involved with a needlepoint project, and spent all afternoon and evening on it. Today will be 20 degrees warmer than yesterday, and sunny, so we will get out for our walk today!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hey team just popping in to say hi, life just gets so busy sometimes

Hope you are all well

Kim

Good morning team! :goodvibes:

Did my strength training dvd yesterday - didn't push as hard as I could have, but I did get some exercise in. Woo!

Today should be a rest day, but since my physical is scheduled for Thursday at 5:20, I'm swapping the rest day and the 3:2 x 8 interval day (3 minutes running:2 minutes walking eight times). Looks to be beautiful, so I'm going to try and head over to Prospect Park and run there rather than running around and around the tiny park close to my apartment like a hamster in its wheel. Tomorrow will be my rest day.

Went to the chiropractor for a tune-up yesterday. The guy I've always seen and whose practice it is wasn't there...a woman was instead, and her technique is very different. One thing felt better, but the rest I really couldn't tell a difference. I'm supposed to go tomorrow before my doctor's appointment...but I'm not sure if my usual one is out for a while or what (no one explained to me what was going on, and I didn't really get a chance to ask)...and I really don't want to deal with her again. Not so much the technique but also the whole "Do you know what set things off this time?" I started running? "Oh that happens to a lot of people. Don't feel bad. You'll feel better soon." The things is I DO feel ok. It's just a twingy hip...and that's getting better. So maybe I'll try to re-schedule for next Wednesday...and find out what's up with Rocco.

Hope you're all well!

~beth

Good Morning Team!

Kim - hope everything is going OK out there.

Beth - good luck with the chiropractor.

The dogs and I got in 2 miles yesterday, I was planning on 3 but it was colder and windier out than I had prepared for. I also did the new Pilates tape - 10-minute solutions - and although it did not concentrate on abs, I did enjoy the tape and will continue using it. Today will be even warmer, should have no trouble with my regular 3 miles today, and mowing lawn is on the schedule.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! I went out for a quick 4 miler last night and everything seemed pretty good. I got in some splits that were under 10:00 m/m and the knee seemed to do pretty good as well. I didn't go as fast as I wanted because it got dark after a while and I didn't want to step on or into anything that would irritate my ankle. I've got a 7 miler planned for tonight but it's suppose to rain so keep your fingers crossed that the rain holds off until much later in the evening :thumbsup2 Right now it's sunny and I don't see too many clouds so I'm hopeful!

Lynn - The Denver medal looks awesome!! There aren't many races that have full colour medals! I also like the photo with the bear looking into the building. Is that a permanent sculpture or just there for the race?

Sue - Welcome back! Always wanted to go to Vero Beach but never have. How are you feeling about the Niagara Falls marathon this weekend? Are you going for a PB or just using it as a training run for Goofy? Good luck with the race!!

Beth - I always like seeing the same practitioner too. Everyone's got their own method of treatment and I'm like you in that I'd rather see the same person so they get to know me and my aches a little better. Hope your hips feels better soon!

Kim - :wave2: How's training for the full coming along?

Dave/Sally - Good luck with your 10K this weekend! :cheer2: Here's hoping you get your heating situation fixed today? Were you able to get your cable turned back on?

Margie - How was the fire station tour? Sounds like a fun outing :) I don't like the Garmin software that much. I use RunningAhead.com for online and SportsTracks for my PC. I like that both can keep track of the mileage on your shoes and the stats on SportsTracks are easier to read. Garmin connect is spotty for me - sometimes it uploads properly and most of the time it doesn't.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Yes, the big blue bear is a permanent thing!

Where is everyone?

Scott got home from LA late last night. I got in 3 miles with the dogs and got the lawn mowed yesterday. It should be another nice day here today!

Pixie Dust for all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hi Lynn and everyone!

I’m here. Been working at my day job, working out when I get home and then dinner and some sewing in the evening.

Some of you – if you’re my friend on facebook know that my son was recently involved in the production of a segment of Dancing with the Stars. It was a secret until Tuesday night. They featured the Mwano family from here in Manchester NH who lost their dad to violence in the Congo and fled to the U.S. Nick answered a Craig’s list ad for a driver with some production experience and knowledge of the area. He has production experience from the movie he worked on here a couple of summers ago. Knows the area and can drive. We found out it was DWTS and couldn’t believe it. Luck has fallen into his lap once again. They worked Columbus weekend to get the needed footage for the show and we were all sworn to secrecy about the kids involvement in a dance with the professional dancers. Kym Johnson came to NH to train the kids. Nick said the production crew and Kym were a blast to work with. He and his fiancee Hope went out to dinner with them and had a great time. You always here about Hollywood types but these people were generous and fun.

Here is the link to the piece that he worked on and their dance Tuesday night.

Hi team! I'm here :) A little busy at work but what the heck - I'll sneak in a quick post.

I ran 7 miles last night and found it a little tougher than 4 miles on Tuesday. Not because the distance was longer but I think it was a mental thing. I did end up running a few faster splits toward the end so I'm happy overall. I did have a bit of pinching in my right hip. Not sure what that's from but I think it's a one time thing so I'm not too worreid. I'm off to the gym tonight for a quick 30 minute training session and will do a 4 miler before work on Friday morning.

Lynn - Do you have one of those riding lawn mowers? I'd imagine your property is pretty big and would take a while with a push mower. WTG with the 3 miler! Do you and Scott have any travel/vacation plans coming up!

Denise - What a wonderful opportunity for Nick! And it's nice to hear that they got to go out to dinner with Kym and company. I'll have to check out the link when I get home. You Tube doesn't work at the office.

Margie - How's your back? Hope things are okay with you!

Connie - What's new and exciting with you? :wave2:

Anyway, that's all for now! Hope everyone is having a great day :wave2:

Hi all!

We just got in from the garden with my class and a couple of others. The kidlets are at lunch. Woo! Garden days go so quickly!!

Switched my rest day and interval day and ran yesterday. I realized somewhere into the second or third interval that I'd left my inhaler pump at home (STUPID!!!) - but at that point it was as far to keep going as it was to turn back. So I did more walking and just focused on my breathing. I wasn't wheezing horribly, but I think it messed with my mind more than anything, so I had to be really conscious of it. I kept thinking about the girl on The Biggest Loser who's got asthma and how she kept going, and I knew I wasn't nearly as bad as her in terms of breathing. I got it under control and was even able to run a couple more intervals. And by the time I got home I didn't even need to pull out the pump! Woohoo! And even with all that walking my pace was still averaging about 13.5 minute miles! I am going to discuss with my doctor - my physical is this afternoon, hence why I switched up my days - about the slight wheezing and see if we should look at something like Singulair for at least the months of September, October and November and then March, April and May just for maintenance and prevention.

I'm hoping that things go well with my physical and that the "you need to lose weight" lecture will be a little subdued since I've lost so much weight since the last time I was there. Also hoping my white coat syndrome chills a little and my BP doesn't spike as it's wont to do in doctor's offices. I've been tested repeatedly at home and I clearly show a spike in a doctor's office...but every time I see a new doctor they get all "TOO HIGH!!!!" and I have to go through it all over again. Hopefully since they have a record of it at the clinic I go to (new doctor...my other one left), it won't be a big deal.

In other news...I talked my sister into doing the 5K with me Half weekend. She's a walker, and that's fine...it'll just be keeping my muscles warm for the half. :)

Hope all are well!

~beth
