Hakuna Matata - Movin' on to March

Eva, good luck with the medical procedure. Yes I totally understand about the layoff, but don't lose sight of your dreams while your laid up. I went through a couple of tough years of life having it's way with me and came back stronger and more determined than ever. You can do the same, your a warrior princess.

Lynn, that's awesome that you and Scott are seeing the world the way you are, we hope to be right behind you guys in about 8 years.

I had the lowest reading on the scale this morning so far 170.8, So down 16.2 pounds from when I left for WDW this January. Fortunately all the loss has been around my middle. Since I'm training harder than ever it's nice not wagging around that extra pudge.

Today is a rest day before the next weeks training, then a taper week before the Louisville 10 miler. That will be a tough race since the first 4 miles are up a steep series of hills.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Dave - We are having fun with our travels.

Tandy - Good luck on your scholarship interview! Is it a Disney Cruise? They seem to take good care of the kids.

Eva - So, is the merger going OK, we knew not to call United the day the computers cut over. Good luck on the surgery, and good luck keeping healthy until then when all around you are sick.

AFM - We went out for bike ride when wind gauge said 4mph, but, of course, as soon as we got out it picked up. We did make it for 10 miles, then a dog walk. Scott has an extensive ride planned for today, assuming wind does not kick up early. We are preparing mentally for snow on Monday after all these nice days.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey gang, quick check in we are trying to get alot of stuff done today. Althought the weather has been amazing today it is a bit cool and overcast so it is the to do day and tomorrow is suppose to be amazing and that will be the lets do nothing day:thumbsup2

I will go back and catch up looks like a ton of posts I have to catch up on.

Things have been crazy for the past few weeks but I hope all is calmed down now and will be able to commit back to trainning and posting, just haven't been feeling it lately and feeling sorry for myself so time to get up brush the dust off and move on.

Have a great St Paddy's Day everyone!!!!!

Hi team! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Kim - We're all thinking good thoughts for you! Chin up and enjoy the weekend!

Lynn - A few years back, there was a pet store in the city that was selling prairie dogs as pets. They looked really cute but I know they're considered pests in most parts of country. Of course I was watching a reality show recently and I think it was in Texas or Alabama that some property owners were having trouble wild boars digging up their farm.

Good job on the 10 miler! Are you and Scott all packed up and ready to go for the cruise?

Eva - Sometimes I look in the mirror and think about botox but just can't bring myself to do it. I think plastic surgery is one of those things that is right for some people but not for others. But you just never know until you have it done. I have some friends who love the work they had done and others who regret it. It sucks that you won't be able to run for a while but at least you're getting it taken care of now :) Would you be able to bike or use an elliptical in the meantime?

Thanks for posting my stuff on Pintrest! I have an account there but haven't had a chance to use it - I guess no time like the present to figure it out!

Dave - You've really done an amazing job with the weight loss! How are you feeling about the 10 miler? Sounds like it will be a tough course but I'll bet that you are more than ready for it!

Tandy - I'm envious of people who tan in the winter! I think if that's the one bad thing you do - so be it :) At least you look good!

I laughed when you said you trust Harrison but not your parents! LOL I think you should let him go on the cruise. It will be a good experience for him. I'll bet he'll have a blast "being on his own" so to speak and he'll probably feel good knowing that you trust him by himself too!

Congrats on your April interview! What kinds of questions are they going to be asking you at that interview?

Thanks for the compliment on the blog! The weather up here has been warm most of the week but then it went and cooled down and rained today. But it's still warm enough to go outside and run without a jacket!

Mike - WTG on the speedy miles! Did you end up getting a Shamrock Shake the other day (don't do it).

Mary - Congrats on the new grandbabies! That is exciting news! Do you have any pictures from your trip to Israel? That's been on my to visit list :)

Robbie - You're in good company! We're always countdown trips to Disney  I've added you to the race calendar!

Regina - Good idea on taking the bands to work! I'll do that for Monday! I've put you onto the race calendar too! I do a few of the plank variations with my trainers - the up down from elbow plank to hand plank (make sure you try not to twist too much from side to side) and the jacks. Josh sometimes has me do a pushup, to a jump squat which is also great for the core and puts in a bit of cardio. You do a pushup and then do the movement for a jump squat to the left side, back to the middle (plank position) and then jump squat to the right side - but you're in a plank/pushup position the whole time.

AFM - I seem to have tweaked my left knee *sigh* Regina reminded me I have a patella strap  so I've put that on and it's helping! I'm debating whether to give my knee a rest or to go out for a 3 miler. I think I might give it a shot and see how it goes.

I'm trying out a recipe for homemade bread so I have more than an hour to kill anyway. Oh and if anyone wants to try out a recipe for Tonga Toast, I did a blog post on it

http://menubyvicky.com/2012/03/04/tonga-toast/

Hope everyone is having a great St. Patrick's day! :shamrock:

Hi Team!

I'm caught up on everyone's postings! I also got a LSR run done this morning with Rick, just over 6 miles with a pace just over 12mm. The bikepath was packed with people up early and enjoying the weather.

Dave~ Great job again on the weightloss. The last time I weighed what you do now, I was about 12 years old.

Mary~ A big congratulations on the grand babies! :goodvibes

Robbie~ Great job signing up for your first full! I'm sure you will do great!

Eva~ I hope all goes well with the surgery, knowing you, you'll be back running the day the doc releases you!

Regina~ You have been doing great with the huge amount of training that you and Kyle have been doing! Crosstraining is always a struggle for me. You guys are rocking it!

Tandy~ You have accomplished so much with school! Awesome! I hope Harrison heals quickly and has a great BB season.

Vicky~ I loved the Tonga toast posting, I am now famous! :thumbsup2

Rick~ Thanks for the run this morning, I might have blown it off if I didn't have to meet you. Enjoy the school play!

Lynn~ Do you ever have a calm season to the winds by you? It always seems 20mph or better. Have you adjusted to being home yet?

AFM~ I did some chores yesterday and ran this morning. Then it was off to pick up our race packets, and get new aero bars for Liz's bike. Apparently, the bike shop guy got the specs wrong on the size of the handlebars and we ordered the wrong size aero bars. She has to ride her clunker for the rest of the week.
The weather could not be any better here. Eighty degrees, slight breeze, moderate humidity = AWESOME!!! Tomorrow, it will be a little warm for the half marathon, but I will take it over last years freezing rain and shivering.
I start my second job at the running store on Monday. Not much per hour, but I get a huge discount on items that I buy...now about a new running watch...

Have a great day! -Mike :cool2:

Little Rock race report ~ Day 2

Saturday was the day of the 5k, expo and pasta dinner for me! I got up really early and headed down the main street to the start. The street is a happening place on weekend nights with a ton of bars and restaurants lining both sides. Volunteers were out cleaning up the left over trash, and a few...um...leftovers in a couple of areas. (Really gross, but very dedicated people!)
The morning was a little chilly and I was one of the first ones milling about. I looked for the race organizers to say hello, and how much I liked their postings on FB. Instead I ran into a guy named Sid Busch. Sid is a guy who everyone knows. I knew him from FB and he is an avid runner to say the least. The full marathon was to be his 184th if he finished on Sunday. Sid is known by Bart Yasso, Frank Shorter, John Bingham, and Jeff Galloway. He is retired Navy, in his late sixties and travels around the country doing races, and has done 18 Mickeys, and all the Goofys. I would describe him as an ultimate running ambassador to the world, and a fantastically nice guy.
While talking to Sid, a young guy came up and started talking with us. His name was Ray and was staying with Sid at the same hotel as me. It turned out that Ray lives near me and is the same guy who gave Jim Welch my 5k packet at the expo the day before! (Cue- It's a small world after all..) Sid and Ray had met on FB and decided to share a room. It seems whenever I do a race solo, I somehow meet some cool people. I told Sid my story about having been turned down for a late checkout and he offered me his room to clean up after the full marathon, gave me his number and told me to call if I needed to. Pretty cool!
I took a few photos and was able to find Susie Capehart and Wendy Sibley before the race. We hung out for awhile and then we were off. The 5k was through downtown Little Rock and only had a few small hills as we went. I took it easy because I knew I had the full the next day. I finished in 30:40 and got my medal. I waited for Wendy and Susie to finish and hung out with them for a bit, taking pictures. Along the course, I did run into Jim who was on the sidelines taking photo of the WISHERS going by. I stopped long enough to personally thank him for getting my packet!
After the race, I headed back to the hotel and had breakfast at the sit down restaurant inside and got to talk to a bunch of other runners for a bit. Then I headed over to the expo which was next to the hotel. I was able to get my packet for the full and spent alot of time wandering around checking stuff out. I bought a couple of fun shirts and some cheap arm warmers for me. Sid was volunteering at the packet pickup by then, right next to the race organizers.
At the expo, I attended a meeting for the early start option for the full. I had signed up for it so I could make my plane without having to rush after the race. We were to go off two hours before the main start and had to stick with the pacers or be disqualified. This gave us eight hours to finish and a 5 and a half hour minimum. Any quicker and they would DQ us. I wasn't happy about that part, but I understood that they didn't want it to be just an early start for the faster runners and mess up the age group qualifiying.
After the expo, I dumped my stuff in the room and headed to the pasta dinner which was also in the hotel. Of course, I ran into Sid and had dinner with him while Bart Yasso was on stage giving a course talk and telling racing stories. You would be amazed how many people came up to Sid and said hi to him. This guy knows everybody! And, he had alot of great racing stories of his own. He talked me into signing up for the Marine Corps marathon, and probably the Baltimore full in 2013.
The dinner pretty much ended my day and I waddled back the room and slept it off...

I missed going out with the other WISHERS that were there because while I was at the expo and dinner, they were out doing other fun stuff. I was bummed about it, but still had a great day!

Day three and the full to follow soon...

-Mike :cool2:

Mike I'm not 12 but I weighed 160 from about the time I was till I retired from the Air Force. Now I need to get back to that weight. It's my best weight, I have a small frame so a muscular 160 is perfect. That Sid guy sounds like someone I know also.

Yes Vicky I'm ready for the 10 miler, I've been training very hard since Disney and have made great strides in both strength and endurance. I have been doing a hard 10 miler every week since the middle of Febuary.

Everyone have a restful evening and a wonderful Sunday.

Dave:hippie:

Mike - I love reading your reports. So awesome that you met such a legend as Sid. :cool2: Can't wait for the next part of the report!!

Dave - You will kill it in the 10 mile distance!!! I can't wait to hear how great you do! Now if you only could come to Disney as prepared....but that would be OVERTRAINED for that distance I suppose. ;)

Vivky - That is one of my questions about the bike. I plan on it, but lord knows I won't be able to haul my butt out of bed every morning for a bike like I do running. I'll prob mix that with some walking. Hope your knee is okay! I heard those straps really help. Let us know how your 3 miles went :goodvibes

Kim - Hey it's okay that you haven't posted much...I can't complain I haven't posted in 3 years...lol!! :rotfl: Hope you get out of the "blahs" soon...you got a Goofy to prepare for!

Lynn - Yes...the merger is okay. Only one other time has a merger of two operating systems been successful and that was when Delta bought NW...so we were very fortunate that we had great IT people that did it right for us! We have lost 65 of our local agents to go out to other places and help with the United folks to learn the system (we are using our old one), so it has been very trying working with out all of those folks. My buddy Jason (the one who stopped at the Contemporary the day of Chef Mickey's) was sent to Santa Barbara, CA to assist for 3 weeks. Like a vacation for him!!! He's gone to vineyard for wine tasting and rode a bike to the beach on his days off! Anyhow....yea it is nice to have the worry over and done with. The hard part is over. Now we just wait to see how many people they lay off... :scared:

Nice that you had a day without 30 mph winds. When are they saying you'll get snow? I was hoping that that stuff was gone for good!

AFM - Up early because my baby of a dog was scared again due to the storms. You'd think a 100 lb dog wouldn't be such a baby. Not sure if it's safe to go run yet. I'm hoping to get 6-8 miles in so I might not have time before church anyways.

Hope all is well with everybody. :grouphug:

Hey team!!!!!

Vicky: Ouch on the knee, did you get you for your 3M? How did it feel???

Mike: 2nd job??? When will you get to sleep:scared1: Love reading trip reports so much fun. Can't wait for July then Vicky and I will be in one:thumbsup2

Dave: You are a machine and in great shape and you train so hard. I wish I had your work ethic!!!! But I am working on it:rolleyes1

Eva: Thanks:hug:, wish you where coming to marathon weekend but totally understand and hopefully you have good news to share soon:banana:

AFM: Going to get out for a subdivision walk today, not going to throw in any intervals cause I haven't done any hardly in about 2 or 3 weeks so want to start back slowly, PF seems to be great but can't seem to get the IT fixed up. Vicky has recommended a physio guy for me so hopefully that helps. I don't think the guy I was going to was very good. Also time for new shoes for me but I have a expo next weekend, I am not doing the race just the first expo of the season and I love race expos so maybe they will be on sale. I got my last pair while visiting friends in Maine and they where about $60 less then I pay at home so should have bought a few pairs.

Have a great Sunday all!!!!

Beautiful Sunday morning in Kentucky. The plan is for about 4 to 6 miles race walking in the park while Sally rides her bike and takes some video of me walking. I believe I have made some great strides in technique and want to see for sure.

As an adult athlete, in the physical sense, because adult sounds so grown up and I'm surely the hell not ever growing up, I always dream that each workout will be that breakthrough where it all comes together. I know that it will be a day like this when all is right with the world that it will happen.

To all my young athletic friends, and all my fellow long in the tooth road warriors. They ain't seen the best of us yet, this is the year that our dreams start coming true. Believe and it will happen. As Henry Ford said, "If you think you can or you think you can't, your right".

Kim I'm not a machine, just at a place in my life where things are finally coming together for me again and I can once again dream and chase those dreams.

Eva, you wouldn't believe the difference between when you saw me at Disney and now. I'll be posting some video of my training today, if it doesn't rain, on facebook. I'm 17 lbs lighter and a whole lot faster and stronger and faster than I was then. I went through my summer clothes yesterday and I will be wearing stuff that I haven't been able to wear for about 5 years.

I'm trying to get things financially in order where I can start doing more destination races so maybe I'll be able to see you guys at races more often. I would really like to do some of those halfs that Mike is doing.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Not totally packed, but there are piles on the bed in the basement which is my “packing room”.

Dave - Have fun with your 10 miler! It is a nice morning here also, I am just watching the sun come up.

Kim - PD that things will stay calm enough for you to get back into training and posting!

Mike - Yes, there are times when the wind does not blow, summer it is not as bad as winter, but will still pick up in the evening (at least any evening we decide it would be nice to have a fire in the fire pit to roast hotdogs or marshmallows on). Good luck on your second job (when do you have TIME for a second job?????) Great race report, looking forward to next installment.

Eva - Snow is supposed to come Monday - today will be warm, then cold Monday and Tues.

AFM - We got in a good bike ride yesterday, totaled 16 miles. The wind was from the SE rather than the W, so we had to ride into the wind on the way back to the car - usually it is the other way around and we have the wind behind us on the bike path. We will see what the wind does today, so far it is calm, but rather cold, still ice on the birdbath, predicted strong winds today (40+mph), but we will see.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey Lynn, I am sure you are getting excited for Fantasy looks like a Beautiful ship.

What a amazing day, got in a 2.85 m walk, roller bladed with my dd and played tennis with my son. Life is good.

Have a great one all

My apologies to Mike because I accidentally left his name off the list of weekend racers! Hope your race went well! How did you do?

Hey team. Hope everyone had a good weekend. It looks like our amazing weather is going to be leaving us for awhile, but it's still better than it could be. 60s but a little bit rainy this week.

Kim: Rollerblading, you are brave! I used to all the time, but after falling and turning 40, I'm done. Glad you had such a good day and happy to see so many posts this weekend!;)

Lynn: Good job on all the miles this weekend! 26 riding and then walking is great! No, I'm sure it's not a Disney cruise. I would worry less if that were the case. :)

Dave: You are at an amazing place in your life. Can you believe how many positive changes you've made in the last few years and how far you've come? Wow! Oh, and I saw that they announced free dining for September, just in case you didn't know.

Eva: Glad to hear the merger went well. What type of dog do you have? I'm sure I've asked before, but can't remember. How did the run go today?
Totally understand about the surgery. I'm a big old chicken, so won't ever have any plastic surgery done, but lots of my friends have. Some were more successful than others. It sucks that you have to have a 2nd surgery, but hopefully, it'll make baby making go better for you!;)

Mike: You have so much going on, I can't believe that you get to add working at the running store to your list. Cool job though. I'd love to do that. Our running store is right by my school, so I wish I could make the time to do it. Great 2nd report. Can't wait for the next installment!

Vicky: Thanks for the vote of confidence with Harrison and the cruise. I'm leaning towards letting him go, but only if I can talk Frank into it. You think I'm overprotective, you should hear him!
The interview should be less than 10 minutes. They just want to talk about my essay that I wrote, and my references, so it's really low key.
I'm soooo sorry that your knee is hurting again! I hope it quickly gets better.
Okay, that tonga toast looks so good! I am going to make it next Sunday for our big cheat breakfast. I can't wait.

AFM: I have had the laziest day possible today. Woke up late, Frank brought me coffee in bed. Then, we walked 1.5 miles to a little cafe and had a late breakfast with lattes, walked back, went shopping and have watched NCAA all day doing nothing. I should have read 2 chapters of psychology and run, but oh well. Harrison spent the night at his brothers and should be home soon. He has to go back to school tomorrow and I go back Tuesday, so time to get serious!

Tandy, Sally and I bought annual passes so I don't think that the free dinning will be worth while for us since we would have the expense of park passes in the room package instead of getting a discount on the room and already having our passes.

But yes, all is right with my world, could use a bit more fun money but you know the saying about happiness.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Kim - Sounds like you had a great day yesterday!

Tandy - We are also losing our nice weather, 46 F today and tomorrow, with rain/snow mix this afternoon and evening. Should be nice again by the weekend though.

AFM - I guess I could call yesterday a rest day - I did nothing but water trees (2 hours of walking around yard), it was really windy - 35-50mph - at times I had trouble standing in the back yard. I spent the morning packing for our trip, nearly done, another couple of hours and I will feel like I have it all under control. This time one large suitcase holds nothing but Pirate costumes and formal wear!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Lynn: I love dressing up like a pirate! We had a pirate day at the lake every year when we had our boat. It was lots of fun. And, any excuse for a formal dress! :thumbsup2 Sorry about that wind. Yuck again!

Dave: Sorry, I hadn't realized that you got annual passes. Yeah, no good for you. Buying annual passes means you get to go a lot and that's always better than free dining. Our move to Florida in 6ish years is going to be partly just to get discounted passes. ;)

AFM: I got about 6 miles of walking in before the rain started. I am still hoping to get a run in if the weather clears. I only need a couple of miles since my knee is hurting again, but I am going to attempt a little run every day. I guess I could get on the TM if I had to, but I so hate it! Zumba tonight so I can stay sane!

I have to somehow read 4 chapters of psych today and I just don't want to do it. It's my least favorite class now and I just find it so boring. Oh well, they can't all be anatomy or physiology, now can they?

Hi Team!

Robbie- Well I hope the race turns out to be a good one even though it’s small and not promoted very well.

Mary- Glad you’re here also!!! Great job getting out for a half hour walk/run! Good luck getting back into the training. The ToT race sounds like it will be a great one. Congratulations on becoming grandparents again! That is very exciting. Glad to hear you had a great trip to Israel (even though you gained a few pounds) and that you can now cross it off your bucket list. It’s good to have you back.

Kimberly- Great job finishing your 4 mile race!

Tandy- It’s on the elbows. I’ve never seen it done on the hands? LOL, I definitely do not think I could lift one foot and one hand. No, I have never done a hover. That definitely sounds hard!!! Thanks for the suggestions! That’s pretty awesome you chased down an ice cream truck! It’s windy here a lot too. The ones I got have the shorts underneath too so hopefully I won’t get chaffing on my thighs. I haven’t tried it out running yet, but it seems to fit ok. It does sit higher up on my waist than I would like, but I’ll get over that I think. When does baseball season start for Harrison? Good luck with the interview scheduled for the honors scholarship!! And good luck getting in everything you need to do today. I hope you’re able to get your run in.

Eva- I hope you don’t get sick so you can get your surgery over and done with! I am just glad it is something you can have reversed since your body did not respond well to it. I hope it all goes well with no complications and that your recovery is smooth and quick so you can get back to living your life! Thanks for the plank variations link!! That will come in handy. Oh, and what is the deal with Pinterest? Like, what is the point of it and what do you do? I think you sent me an invite several months ago but I never did anything with it because I wasn’t sure what it was.

Vicky- Thanks for the plank suggestions!!! I’m getting lots of good stuff from you all!

Dave- Congrats on the weight loss!! I hope the chiro tells you there is nothing wrong with your knee tonight when you go! Glad your strap has been helping.

Mike- Thanks! Getting up early is not a lot of fun, but it has really been helping us with consistency and getting it done! That’s awesome you are having such nice weather over there. Good luck with the new job at the running store on Monday!! You’ll do great! Loving your RR’s!

Kim- Glad you had a great day yesterday!

Lynn- Glad you had a good bike ride Saturday! LOL, I would call walking around the yard for 2 hours in high winds watering trees exercising!! Will you take pictures of you and Scott in your pirate costumes and formal wear? I’d love to see them if you do!

AFM, ran 3 miles on Saturday and 11 miles on Sunday. My legs are definitely a little bit sore today after the 11 mile run. DH and I were hoping to run by about 6:30-7am on Sunday but that just did not happen. We finally made it out about 1:30pm and I think that worked out better for us because the weather was much nicer at that time than it was earlier in the morning. There was sunshine and I was actually hot off and on throughout the run when the wind was not blowing. We were going to run down by the beach, but when we got down the hill to the road where the beach is, we found the road was flooded with water. So we turned around because we did not want to slosh through the water and get our socks and shoes soaked. Oh well. Today is a much needed rest day and then back to it tomorrow! I hope everyone had a great weekend and is off to a great start to their week!

Hi, everyone,

Just scanning one page and I see that I have a lot of catching up to do! Hope everyone is doing well. Can't wait to see how your training is going.

I've been off for a while because work and life have taken over. I begin work every morning at 4AM and end at 7PM lately. I won't tell you what time I manage to get to bed. It is starting to calm down a bit and so I thought I would grab a few minutes to check in with my favorite people!

Elizabeth

Sorry! I've been absent on the boards for the past 6 days due to a wacky schedule that kept me busy 14-18 hours a day! But now the musical at my DS school is closed and the set 'struck', so I may be getting my life back. :rotfl: The show was really fun and the kids were great. But I am definitely happy to reclaim some free time (to catch up on everything I put off doing).

I have to get caught up on everyone's posts! I am missing all the great things that are going on with you all! Just know that I have been thinking about all of you, and sending out positive thoughts in all directions! :goodvibes

Just updated the blog this afternoon. Only got in 10 miles of running last week (yikes!) because of various aches and pains in hips, knees, and back (the aches kinda kept moving around). I think the lack of good sleep each night was a major factor (that and creeping ever so slowly towards 52yrs). :lmao:

I got in a 5K walk on Thursday (only ran 1 mile of it) and a 6.87 mile Long Run with Mike on Saturday morning. Every day last week was gorgeous and it killed me that I wasn't out there running. But between time availability, tiredness, and aches, two runs was all I could manage.

I got 10+ hours of sleep last night and woke up feeling pretty good. No aches! So let's see how my Tuesday AM run goes. Can't wait for the 5K race this Saturday with my DS, Mike, and Liz. I think I am going to run the race in my Instinct shoes -- the first time I will wear them in an actual race.
