Hakuna Matata - Movin' on to March

Good morning team.

The weather was beautiful this morning and I trained with only one shirt on and no coat or gloves. I could have worn shorts!! Our weather is supposed to stay warm from now on but rainy.

My workout this morning was 4 miles of rolling hills in 48:15. It was a moderate effort with my heavy cushioned shoes.

Pixey dust for your boy Tandy.

Mike, let us know about how the running store job works out.

Lynn, where are you and Scott headed next?

Vicky, how are you feeling princess? Ready for another marathon yet?

Dave:hippie:

Dave - It amazes me that you do your 400s at a sub 10 mm pace!! You are one speedy panda!!!

Tandy - Fun that you chased down an ice cream truck. I haven't done that in years...but I always wish I would have once the truck is out of sight. ;)

Vivky - I think it's great that you have such fun with your trainer. I think I would dread it every week. Weatherwise -it has been nice by me too and I know what you mean about seeing others overdressed. I was out in shorts today and I saw a young guy in a whole cotton sweatpants outfit. Hood up and everything...lol. I figured either he's new to running, or he is crosstraining for another sport and running isn't his "thing" because he looked miserable. Oh and remember when we were in Disney and I mentioned Jen that used to post on here? Well I see that she has started up a new group for BQ chasers. She always was a speedy one!!

Rick - Way to get your 12 in with such a crazy schedule! A rest day feels sooo good after a training day like that, huh?

Mike - How great that you were able to reach out to fellow WISHers for support. It turned a horrible day into something special in a way. Okay...but we are all waiting...how about the race??

Lynn - Laundry can count as crosstraining..especially if there are stairs involved!!

AFM :thumbsup2 - I got my 20 miles in last week and I think this week will another step back week since I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow and St Paddy's day this weekend (we might have a party). I'm hoping to be able to run a half marathon (on my own) on the 25th. I'm having an unexpected outpatient procedure done on the 30th. It shouldn't be a big deal, but I won't be able to run for a few weeks so I figured I should just give it a go and see what I can do for a half now while I still can. Doubt I'll get close to a 2 hour half, but a girl can dream

Hi Team!

Rick- Congrats on Christi getting to go home! That is great news!! Thanks! Yes, your wife returning home is an excellent reason to miss a run! That’s awesome you got good deals on some running gear for DS. Great job getting your 12 mile run in! Yay for the great weather! Wow you had a busy day on Sunday! Good luck getting in your early runs this week!

Lynn- Sorry to hear the wind is making it difficult to get out on the bikes for a ride. 3 weeks until the Fantasy is right around the corner! I agree on the weather- we woke up to snow this morning. Hope you were able to make it out today!

RadioFanatic- Thanks!

Eva- The Portland RnR is an inaugural race. We have enjoyed Portland when we have been there. We are looking forward to going back. I agree-definitely can’t forget the Goonies! And now, the new show Grimm is filmed there I think. Glad you got your 20 miles in last week! Hope your eye appt goes well! I hope your procedure on the 30th goes well. What’s the half on the 25th?

Tandy- Those all sound like great reasons to me! I’ve always loved Seattle too, although it’s been a few years since I’ve been up that way. I have a friend who likes to go to the Seattle RnR half every year. I’m okay with a little tough as long as we can make it a habit and the times we miss are few. 75 degrees sounds wonderful! I would love to be there if that’s the case! Wow Harrison had a busy day yesterday. Hope he made it through everything ok. I’m sorry to hear Harrison’s heel is still hurting and you have to cancel your 10k plans.

Mike- Thanks! I missed you too! I’m glad you are maintaining your weight and that Liz has recovered from her flu. Congrats to Liz on her baptism!! How did your running interview go? Good I hope! That’s awesome you got into MCM! Thanks for the RR. That is so wonderful Jim and Susie were so helpful when you had such flight trouble. I’m glad it all worked out. I’m sorry to hear the hotel screwed you over like that- that would make me angry as well.

Vicky- DH and I don’t drink coffee. DH doesn’t at all and I do very very rarely (we’re talking like 1-2 times a year). Thanks! Glad you made it through your run this evening even though it was a little cold! LOL, I bet it was nice to be able to yell at the trainer to keep moving for a change. I’m feeling the effects of the time change too.

AFM, got in a 10 mile run today that was supposed to be done on Sunday. It has messed up my training for this week, but I’d rather have the 10 mile run in since I missed the 8 mile run the week before. Oh, and we woke up to like 3 inches of snow this morning! And we are on the coast and it is not supposed to snow here! Crazy weather! Hope everyone is well!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Great story with trainer!

Dave - We were out in shorts yesterday! It was lovely here also, except for the wind. Next trip is Maiden Voyage of Disney Fantasy.

Kim - Hi!

Tandy - Hope Harrison’s heel feels better soon! Is he sleeping in a boot? That and stretching helped my PF.

Mike - My mother always complained about feeling old when she went to PTA meetings for my youngest brother (she was 40 when she had him).

Rick - Sounds like you are in for a busy week!

Regina - Still nice here, I think your snow storm is going north of us, but we might get some next week.

Eva - Have fun on St. Patricks Day!

AFM - Too windy for bike ride, but did get dogs out for a walk, and we walked in shorts! Spent the afternoon watering the trees, still a bit early to turn on sprinkler system. Scott took the thatcher attachment to the lawn, and now we can see a bit of green pushing thru. We even saw one of the striped ground squirrels out the other day (they help keep the seed under the bird feeder under control) We are waiting to see a Rocky Mountain Bluebird - that is a sure sign of Spring.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Is it Wednesday already? You guys are doing awesome with all the miles you're logging! Keep it up!

Lynn - Hard to believe that it's shorts weather already! Are ground squirrels like ground hogs? I don't think I've ever seen one before. We only have the tree kind here and they come in grey, black and a brundle color. I've heard that black squirrels are rare in the US. There's one house in the area that has a bird feeder that regularly attracts birds, ducks, geese, squirrels and even rabbits.

Is the Disney Fantasy the ship that's been docked in NYC?

Regina - It's much too late for snow! I hope it melts quickly and the warm sunny spring weather returns. Good job on the 10 miler! I try not to drink coffee too much because it sometimes upsets my stomach but I love that it keeps me awake on the days that I'm tired. Do you want me to add the Portland RnR to the race calendar.

Eva - I'm hoping for a 2 hour half this year too but my PB is about 8 minutes off. I think the trick is to pick a mostly downhill race LOL Good luck at the eye doctor and with the procedure on the 30th! Hopefully neither appointments are too serious.

Maybe he was channelling his inner Rocky by running in his sweatsuit. I know some people who hate running but will do it anyway. I don't get that. If I hated something, I wouldn't last very long at it.

Dave - Definitely ready for another half! I have to pick up my mileage to be ready for a full  But I'm still looking forward to MCM and January 2013! Good job on your 4 miler! I hope the weather stays nice for you! Say hi to Sally :) Hope she's doing well!

Tandy - Do you use any of the self tanning creams? I tried one out last year to even out my sock line - it was so-so  I know a few people who go to tanning salons but the idea of skin cancer and wrinkles keeps me away.

You probably burned off the 140 calories running after the truck! That's an awesome story.

Lots of pixiedust: for Harrison! I hope he's feeling better soon!

Kimberley - You can probably get your other medals engraved in your local mall. The stores that cut keys usually do engraving. But at least you know for 2013 :) Depending on what time you finish, I think the wait was close to an hour.

AFM - I had a great workout on Monday - did some band work, arm exercises and some core work. I think I should do more of the band work on my own because it's good for my glutes and ultimately my knees.

I went for a run after work yesterday. I wore shorts and a tee and found it to be a bit chilly. It was a quick 3 miler though so it was over done before I knew it. It's really nice to have that extra hour sunlight, instead of running in the dark.

Does anyone have plans for St. Patrick's day this weekend? A lot of people I know are going to hit the bars and drink the whole day (but I'm not really into that).

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

I almost forgot! I put my blog up! http://www.menubyvicky.com

I tweaked something last night and it caused the pictures to be erased. I only had enough time to fix two posts which is why there are only two things on there right now. I'm aiming to get 2-3 posts on there a week.

Any feedback you have would be most appreciated! :cutie:

Difficult to give feedback on the blog...I get too distracted by the yummy food!
Seriously, looks great...pretty straight forward. I hope you update yours more than I update mine!

Well I finally did it...signed up for my first full marathon! I made the mistake of registering late last night, so I had trouble sleeping as my mind kept racing as to how I could possibly double my longest run ever.

Whoever adds these to the team calendar (Vicky I think)...
October 14, PEI Marathon
http://www.princeedwardislandmarathon.com/

I also signed up for another 1/2:
April 21, Wear Red Road Race
http://www.wr3.ca/
6 weeks out, only 22 registered. This was the one I spoke of before that only had 33 participants last year.

Finally, for those planning on going down to Marathon weekend next year...only 300 days away (if you arrive on Wednesday, Jan 9 like I plan to). It feels so liberating saying that amongst a group of people who probably/hopefully don't think I am such a dork for getting excited for something this far in advance!

Robbie

Hi Team!

Lynn- I’m glad our snow storm missed you. Did you go out and do bike sprints in the wind with Scott? Have you seen the Rocky Mountain Bluebird yet?

Vicky- Our snow was all melted by the end of the day it snowed, but a couple of DH’s coworkers still have snow at their places. Yes please add Portland RnR to the race calendar- it’s on May 20. Thank you! Are you going to try to PR the Chicago RnR or do you have another race picked out? That’s awesome you had a great workout on Monday! Can you take the bands with you to work and do an exercise or two while you’re sitting at your desk or on break from work? I agree- it is so nice to have that extra hour of sunlight! No St. Patty’s plans for us. I wanted to do the Shamrock Run 15K in Portland, but it sold out on me before I could register. LOL, oh well, I’ll shoot for next year. How about you? Your blog looks good! :thumbsup2

Tandy- LOL, okay, I must have missed the truck story. When and why were you chasing a truck?!

Robbie- You are most definitely not a dork. I think most of us count down pretty far in advance and are planning just as long! It is very exciting! I wish we were going so I could be counting down too. :goodvibes

AFM, DH and I made it out again this morning for a 4 mile run and some lifting and core training. I think it might be time to adjust the standard plank to a harder version by lifting one leg or something because I can pretty easily do 2 reps of 1 minute each. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Also, DH’s leave time was approved for May so I signed us up for the Portland Rock N Roll Half last night! I always have such a dilemma deciding what size shirt to order…I hope I picked the right size. Now I really have to make sure I’m not slacking off on the training! I think DH is going to reserve the hotel for us tomorrow when he comes home from work. I also ordered my first running skirt from Runningskirts.com and am hoping I’m really going to like it!

I hope you all have a great day!!

Robbie

Sorry missed this part of your post! Congrats on signing up for your first full marathon!!! That is awesome!!!

Why is the Wear Red Road Race so small a race? Is it the location? Not a popular event? Have you run it before?

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Our ground squirrels look more like chipmunks, they are about half the size of a normal tree squirrel and do not have bushy tails. We have both a striped variety and a solid tan variety which is slightly larger than the striped. We also have prairie dogs in our common area, thank goodness they (the prairie dogs) have not encroached upon our property. The Fantasy did stop in NYC on its way over from Germany, now it is in Port Canaveral, there are, as usual, several “special” cruises before the Maiden Voyage. If you are looking for a flat race, try the Space Coast Race, Tracy runs it every year, we did it once, very well done, all flat, and a nice route. I cannot remember any bottlenecks that would slow you down.

Robbie - Congrats signing up for your first marathon, you have plenty of time to train for it!

AFM - It was still windy yesterday, we each took bikes out separately and just did laps of our street, that way, we did not have to fight wind for too long at a time. Scott did sprints, I did 7 miles - I gave up at that point when a gust of wind nearly blew me over. Then the dogs got their walk. Wind supposed to be milder today, so a good ride may be in the forecast.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

This will be my first time, so not sure why the turnout is so low. If I was guessing, would say probably a combination a newer race (only 3rd year I think) and not being promoted very well (I heard about it by accident). Also the time of year in that people are not in the best running shape and rural roads might not be in the best shape right after winter.

Hi Team!

I know, I know, I've been MIA for a long time, possibly since September when I did the DL Half. I didn't go back and read the threads from the months in between, but have caught up on March.

Lynn...can't wait to hear about the Fantasy! Our whole family (kids, grandkids, and DH's parents) are booked for 2013. More about the grandkids later.

Mike....hope your birthday was a happy one. Blessings to Liz on her baptism.

Vicky...sorry to hear you're having knee issues. I feel your pain as knee problems have been my lot for quite some time.

Regina....I'm glad I'm not the only one who's been absent from these threads for a while! Glad you're here!

Robbie and RadioFanatic...Welcome!! :cheer2::cheer2:

AFM...I'm afraid that after the DL Half, Ken and I both fell off the training wagon. We didn't have any races in the future scheduled, as we had decided not to do the WDW Half this year. That being said, we have both packed on a few pounds, so I am getting back out there! Went out this morning for a short half hour walk/run. Harder than in the past, but not as hard as the very beginning. We are planning to do the ToT race and I am also thinking about a local half marathon in Oct. Hopefully I can find a few races locally in between, although when the weather gets really hot, they are harder to find.

In other news, Ken and I recently returned from a trip that was on our bucket list. We went with a tour group from Taylor University to Israel. It was go, go, go the whole time we were there. Wakeup call at 6:00, breakfast at 7:00, on the bus at 8:00. Back at the hotel between 5:00 and 6:00 most days. Israel is very hilly, and I thought that I would be working off everything I ate, but I guess not. I came back with 4 more pounds than I had when I left! This is the most I've ever weighed, so I am determined to get it off! It was definitely the trip of a lifetime though. We decided it was like Bible Study in 3D.

On a happier note, Ken and I became grandparents again...twice! Two of our daughters each gave birth four days apart! The first one had a son, Mordecai Benjamin and the second a daughter, Claire Marie. (yes, she was sort of named after me) Mordecai is our first grandson and Claire makes granddaughter number 3. They do not live in the same city as us, so we'll be making another visit this weekend to see them.

Glad to be back! :thumbsup2

well, you made me very hungry - they look awesome! Im' putting your blog in my cooking section bookmark of my iphone!

and for st. paddy's day I'm doing a run - Running on the Green - it's only four miles but I'm looking forward to getting out and they jokingly call it a "parade" - bc it's actually on st. paddy's day, they said they are giving out an additional prize to finishers - I hope it's a medal (this race gives out socks instead of tshirts).

thanks for the welcome Mary J! Congrats on the new kidlets and sounds like an AMAZING trip!

congrats on signing up for your first marathon LB - that's awesome - I can't wait to sign up for mine in october - doesn't seem real until I do.

Everyone have a great st. paddy's day!

Hi Team!

Just a quick check in today. I ran for the first time since the Little Rock marathon. It's been ten days! I got a 5k done in 28:40 with a pace of 9:15.

I'm off this weekend (hopefully) and I can't wait to relax and enjoy the weather, and run a half on Sunday!

Hope all are well, Mike :cool2:

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck Kimberley! Burn some asphault this weekend! Do you get beer at the end of your race since it's on St. Patrick's Day?

March

17 - Runnin of the Green Island 4 Mile, Green Island, NY - Kimberly

Good Morning Team!

Mary - good to see you post again! Small world - Scott is a Taylor U graduate. Congrats on the new grandkids. Good luck getting back into training!

Mike - Have a good weekend off!

Kimberly - Good luck on your race “parade”.

AFM - The weather person lied yesterday - winds were 20mph+ all day. We did get on the bikes out to the mailbox and back, and dogs got their walk.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Thanks all! No beer (unless that's the surprise for finishers) for this race- that's for my July 8 Boilermaker race - it ends in free beer bc it's based in Utica, home of Saranac Beer - the race actually finishes at their doorstep - should be fun - boiling heat, running a 15k and then beer - definitely not a recipe for :crazy::rotfl2::rotfl::scared::dance3: and then the next day :cold:

Kimberely: Good luck tomorrow! Hope you have a great race. My ultra was going to start at one brewery and end at another one 44 miles away. I was actually going to train that way, starting with a Boulevard beer and ending with a Freestate beer.

Lynn: Sorry about the wind. At least you made it out for a little ride.
We had lots of prairie dogs when I lived in Gunnison, Co., but I haven't seen any in Kansas. Well, I guess I should take that back. Somewhere along I70, there is a place that claims the world's largest prairie dog, but I've never stopped. ;)

Mike: Good idea to take a little break. When's the next race?

Mary: Welcome back and congratulations on the new grand babies. My son is the only grandson, so he's spoiled rotten on all sides! What an amazing trip. I would think you would have lost weight too, but the food must have been pretty good. ;)

Regina: Do you do the plank on your hands or on your elbows? If on your hands, pretty impressive that you need to step it up. I would alternate lifting a foot or do a side plank, you could also lift one foot and one hand, but yikes, that's hard. Have you ever done a hover. It's where you lower your plank down until your nose is barely off the ground, and it's HARD!
We chased down an ice cream truck, so it was worth it, big time!
I have lots of running skirts and I love them. Of course, it's windy here a lot, so I think the men in my neighborhood really like that I wear them too!:lmao: I try to get the ones that have shorts, not just briefs underneath.

Robbie: You aren't a dork at all! We all understand and empathize. I am excited about going back in 2014, since I'm probably not going to make it this next year, although, you just never know! ;) Congrats on signing up for your first full. I was so nervous and excited, but I had the greatest time.

Vicky: I'm one of those bad people that tans. I can't help it. I love to be tan, don't mind wrinkles at all, and figure I have to do something bad for me, right?
Your blog is awesome! Both recipes look so good. I am going to have to make them both at some point, but that would involve actually cooking, and since I haven't seen my kitchen in a week, who knows when that'll happen? Is the weather staying warm up there?

Eva: I like the idea of running your own half. Maybe I'll run one here too, and we can kind of run it together!

Mike: Thanks. He's getting better, if he'll just stay off of it for awhile.

AFM: If I missed anyone, I'm sorry. I can only see so many posts, and I've apparently missed a lot.

I ran 5 miles today!!!!!:yay: Of course, the run stunk, but I did it. I planned 6, but it was 80 degrees when I headed out and I didn't have enough water. I was burning up and thirsty, so I turned around half a mile early. I still did really good and am not in pain, so it's all good. I also walked 3 miles this morning. I'm hoping to get out for another run or walk later and lift at some point.

Harrison is not running anymore. His baseball season is going to seriously suffer if we don't get his heel healed. So, I'm debating finding a kind of flat fall half for him. I think he could do it if we take it super slow. But, maybe not. If he doesn't, I'm definitely going to sign up for something. We have a really nice half/full here in October, but it's really hilly. If I do it alone, maybe I'll do that one.

I have made it a step farther in school. I have an interview scheduled now for the honors scholarship. I'll have the interview the first week of April and will hopefully know something by May. I'll also know by then if I'm in the nursing program and to be in and have it paid for would be such a blessing right now! We just paid for our airfare for this summer, and YIKES! Scary!

Harrison has the opportunity to go on a free cruise with my parents in October. I'm tempted to let him go because he's not going to Europe with us, and it'd be nice for him. But, I'd be a nervous wreck the whole time! It's only a 5 day cruise and it only goes from Florida to the Bahamas, so not too big a deal. He'll be almost 13 by then, and I know I can trust him, I just don't really trust my parents. :rolleyes1

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Happy St. Patrick's Day to those Irish teammates!:shamrock:

We have been crazy busy at work the last couple of days. Now that we have merged with United we have hubs in O'hare, Cleveland and Newark...so when big storms systems come though they go though Chicago, then here then EWR. It makes for a big mess of things!!!

Just stopping in to say hi!! I'll take a quick peek at the last few posts...

Tandy - Yes I would love a virtual running partner for the half! Provided I am feeling well. Everyone around me is sick and I cannot get sick before surgery or they have to reschedule. I just want it over and done!! So if I am not sick I'm definitely going to do it! Too bad about Harrison not running..but so cool that he can go on a cruise!

Kimberly - GL on your race!!!

Mike - Glad to see you got your much needed rest after your race!

Mary - Israel sounds wonderful!! Congrats on the grandbabies!!! :cheer2:

Regina - Here's a link to some plank variations I have used
http://www.tinareale.com/887/plank-variations/
Yay for the Portland RnR!!! I'm excited for you!!

Vivky - I have posted your blog recipes to my pinterest...people seem to be repinning the phyllo one most so far. Hopefully that will get you some new followers :cool2:

AFM - So far I have only talked with family about my surgery, but running friends are sometimes to only ones who understand how CRAZY you get when you can't run so I thought I would mention it. After I posted it I thought..well that was silly I should just tell them what is going on. Yes..it is embarrassing, but maybe my life lessons can be lessons to others too! About 4-5 years ago I had some plastic surgery done. Well apparently, my body did not approve (not to get religious, but I happen to think God is telling me something). I have recently had complications and now I am having to pay out of pocket to get the surgery "reversed". I just wish I had never done it. Now I have to put my life on hold (running, racing, trying for a baby....). HELLO life lesson. So no, it is not serious, but I do have to be put under and operated on. I won't be able to run for at least a couple weeks. :sad1:

Other than that...I ran 3 miles Sub-11 MM pace today with my heartrate avg at 146. That is the fastest I have gone yet in my MEP zone :cool1: Running slower DOES work...crazy! :upsidedow
