Hakuna Matata: Dash away, dash away, dash away All!

Hi everyone! Brrr... it was cold this morning! Wasn't I wearing shorts two weekends ago :) Well I had my PT look at my knees - well, he looked at my hips and glutes because he says that where knee problems start. He said the muscles there were tight but nothing too serious. He gave me two exercises to do before running so that I could get that area activated. I did a 4 mile pace run this morning and everything was great! Pace was back up to 10:30 m/m! But I guess the real test will be tomorrow when I do my 9 miler.

Eva - Great to hear from you again! I love the little Mickey Ears :)

Lynn - Sorry to hear about the training! It's hard when life gets in the way of all the fun stuff. Hope things warm up a little - that weather sounds brutally cold.

Scott - Post pics of your tree when everything is set up!

Dave - That laundry room story is too funny! Yeah, sometimes towels tend to release fuzzballs. How's your GPS working out?

Connie - I ordered from Running Warehouse on my last trip! They've got great customer service. Yeah, I sort of forgot how old I was until I saw the waiver - I stopped counting about 10 years ago :rolleyes1

Margie - How did your 7 miler go? I saw a little bit of white stuff on the ground last week but I'm pretending that it's frost :goodvibes

Have a great weekend everyone! Btw, what's with all the drama on the board lately - did I miss something? Does someone have the inside scoop they can share with me :confused3

Cold and Snow here, and it looks like it wont stop fro a while.... Oh well teh pups like it.

Good Morning, TEAM! :wave2:

Scott & Lynn- :sad2: news on the training weather!

Vicky- we have a light dusting of snow and it does look more like frost! My 7-miler ended up on the DM-family issues. :confused3

:hippie: You do not wash towels with other clothes...
that nice, soft, fluffy stuff makes a big mess!
And ::yes:: Black with cream are great color combinations except in the laundry! :sad1:

Connie- Me too I use lots of GU & Body Glide ::yes::

Jack- Good Morning - hope you do not have any unscheduled work crop this weekend? :upsidedow

Sue- I will be thinking of you while I am walking my 18-miler today. Hope your weather is as good or even better than mine! :goodvibes

Did any of you manage to get your Wavier & BIB #'s? 2010 Marathon Weekend is Close! :crazy2: :worried: :yay: :scared: :upsidedow

A bit Chilly at 22°, but the sun is trying hard to shine! :goodvibes
Going out for my 18-miler in a couple of hours when the temperature when it warms up a bit – then they say the temperature will range from 28° to 34°.
Need to get in my pre walk stretching now-:upsidedow

Later...

Lynn, thank you for thinking of me and starting a fund for a GPS. I have one but no Vicky I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, I'm thinking maybe thursday I might have some free time to play with it.

Margie, you see I need someone to keepme out of trouble. Is your Sarah doing ok now? I know this has been a horrid year for you guys.

Scott, I need to come vist you and try out the adventure bar.

Just had a power bump and my cable had to be reset.

Everyone thank you for supporting me during this difficult time.

Dave:hippie:

Well, I am now officially a Marathoner

The number one thing I learned at the race was what my coach told me when I started stating goal times in the BQ range, respect the distance. I didn't BQ but feel like I learned enough to do so at Disney!

Finish time 3:59:39. 21 out of 91 in my age group, 192 out of 995 women, 792 out of 2500 overall.

I'm happy to have finished to be honest. I was on pace for a 3:35 through mile 15 and for a 3:40 through mile 20. At mile 21 I hit the wall and got a major knot in my calf (and I NEVER cramp) to the point where I could barely move. Then there were hills every bleeping mile between 19-26 (litterally a hill at the 26 mile mark). The medic who looked at my leg said considering the tension I'm lucky I didn't tear anything. The good news is I know part of it was from the hills and not stretching. Considering how long I stayed on pace, horrible training directly before (the fact that I had two weeks of next to no training [not a normal taper just not running/ training] and a sick week the week before), and the hills, I think getting my BQ at Disney won't be a problem. In fact, I think it will make it even better.

Best,
Jennifer

Jennifer~ :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Way To Go!!!! Must feel Great :thumbsup2

How 'bout some tips for US first timers?

Quiet Weekend~;)

DS Ben is a full Brother in his frat :confused3 not sure how I feel about that.

BTW have plans been made to meet before the race? Trying to make reservations for dinners and stuff. Anyone doing the "VIP"?

Lynn~Scott and the :dogdance::dogdance: stay warm!

Margie :grouphug: just 'cause

Hope everyone is getting ready it'll be here before we know it..

Connie & Vicky & Sue & Eva~ :cheer2:

Dave~ :thumbsup2

Jack, remember Animal House.......

Jennifer congrats, yep that mile 21 or there abouts can be a killer, but then when ya dig in and get to mile 22 or so ya know the finish is just kinda around the corner..

Jack the trick is as I believe Junnifer posted is respect teh distance. I recall being passed by several folks only to pass them several miles later.

You did great Jennifer, first marathons are indeed learning experiences.

Dave:hippie:

Hi TEAM!

:cheer2::cheer2: Jennifer :cheer2: Each race is different, weather, hills, no hills, training, lack of training...that's what makes them interesting and why we do them! :upsidedow

Dave-:grouphug::hug: Life will get better!
DD, Sara is better but not great. a huge positive is we have not been to ER in a month! She is on physical therapy twice a week and starts with the Pain Clinic tomorrow.

Sue- how did your 18-20 miler go? Hoping Way Better Than Mine! :goodvibes I ended with 14.25 outside and 3.75 on the DM. It was so dark I could not see my Garmin to check the mileage. :sad2:

Scott- 'Respect the Distance' I truly do, but today's 18-miler was really tough! Changed to winter socks, neglected to use the normal band-aids and ended up with three blisters :sad1: cold winds, soaked and cold.

Tomorrow is a Rest Day! :worship:

Jack- :thanks: Glad to hear you had a restful weekend! :goodvibes
Are you getting in your long runs?

Later...

Hi everyone!

Jennifer - Congrats on your first marathon! What a great time too! I can't wait to see if you can BQ in January. I didn't know that about cramping and tension - that you could tear something. I will definitely keep that in mind.

Jack - I think the meet is 4:30 on Friday at Pop. I think there's also a meet on Monday at the Boardwalk Bakery but I haven't heard anyone talking about that yet. No plans on doing the Race Retreat or anything like that - it seems expensive and I'd rather hang out with my WISH buddies before the race. There's a dessert party at Epcot that Liz was organizing - I forget how much it was p/p. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Margie - Ouch! Sorry to hear about the blisters - it happens to me too when I wear the wrong socks. I'm glad to hear that Sara is staying out of the ER :)

AFM - Did my 9 miler today. Knee held up :) Took a nap afterward and ended up with a nice headache. I think I needed to drink more water but I usually forget in the winter because I usually feel cold. Lesson learned. Tomorrow is training in the gym - probably weights and a few hip/glute exercises.

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

I'm back but of course, can't post much with going back to work today. I was in Disney for 10 days. It was heaven!

My ds Nick proposed to his gf Hope on the first night we were there. He did it during a lull of music and flashing lights at MGM at the Osborne lights. Mark and I knew it would happen but it was still very exciting. Hope had no idea.

The rest of the week went well too. Spent some quality time with the princess and fell in love even more with her.

Mark and I managed a morning walk but had many none powerwalk miles. Too much eating and fun so I was back on the TM yesterday morning. Yes it snowed on Saturday night while we were landing so an outside walk was not in the cards.

Well it's my early start today so I'm off. Hope the next few weeks are good for all of you and I will continue to check in and see everyone's progress.

Keep training, your in the homestretch!

denise

Well team Mike and I have decided to shut down our long distance weekend. Both of us are dealing with injuries and figure as long as we keep moving we will get through Marathon Weekend. Mike's reasoning was undertrainned might slow us down but being injured will stop us. And I have to say it makes sense. We are planning just 5K walks through the week and a few
10K's on weekends and those depending on how we feel.

I am counting on cheering and adreninline to get me through these races....oh ya and pain killers :thumbsup2

Good plan Kimmer. We will do fine. My training is about the same.

Margie, Dave, and Scott Thank you! Trust me when I realized I was off pace I was thinking about the wish motto.

Vicky, According to the medic it was that I kept trying to run full out on it when it was that tense that could have caused a tear. Sometimes I doubt the post-race medics though.

Jack, My only advice is what my coach/trainer told me "respect the distance." You don't know what it feels like to race 26.2 miles until you hit miles 17-26. I was on pace through mile 18 and then fell apart. I was a little undertrained and a little overly optimistic. I now agree that you're goal your first should always be to finish. Now I can spend the next 5 weeks focusing on get down to my BQ time and now I know where my weaknesses are.

Hockeychic, Take care of yourself. Due to stress my last two-three weeks of training were horrid and that's what cost me on race day.

I desperately want to run but know better (I am starting back easy tomorrow, marathon was on saturday), so I'm going to live vicariously through you all today.

Hey Kids, Just a couple on the TM this morn, it's Monday.

Jack Jennifer is spot on.

Kim good plan.

Cold and snow here.

I've had a productive day already. I went to the gym for pool running, dermatologest for spot check, Target and found everything I needed on sale, comforter, Red Devil vacuum and TV stand, got it all for $109 out the door.

Came home put everything together, cleaned house and now doing laundy. So far very good day. Now if I would just win the lottery.....

Have a magical day y'all.

Dave, the newly single werepanda:hippie:

Feeling a little apprehensive~ after reading Jennifer's post. Perhaps bitten off more than I can chew,,,,, I realiize I won't be able to run the whole way, just want to finish in time.

Hi Team!

Jen, Congrats! on a great race.

Denise, Welcome back. Glad you had a great trip.

Jack, Race day is the easy part (adrenaline, spectators, atmosphere will carry you through). The training to get to get to race day is the hard part. Don't go out too fast. Save something for Miles 18-22. The stretch from AK to The Studios. This is were you have to stay strong & fight through the race mentally.

Margie, Yesterday's 20 miler took everything I had. I really had to dig deep & not cut the run short. It was the first really cold day we've had and the wind was strong. Glad to hear you muscled through & finished up on the DM.:thumbsup2 We are almost done. Hang in there.

Vicky, Good news on the knee & that you had a great 9-miler.

Possible gym tonight for yoga or pilates. Maybe a night off? .....Sue
