Please help me.

I have dirty blonde hair. But I have been dying it light blonde, my whole life. I wanted a change. So I tried Medium Blonde, which turned it a muddy color. I hate it. I want something rich and brown.
Or at the very least a dark blonde.

I know I shouldn't use ash colors or anything with "golden" b/c that will turn my hair green.

Any advise for going brown from blonde out of a box???

You are actually not correct about golden tones. It will not turn hair green. Only ashen shades will do that. Golden is just a step away from red tones in actuality. I would call the makers or consult a professional. I have medium to dark brown hair so I have only done red tones and darker ones at that so I am not too much help on exact shades. I just always did auburns and golden tones myself to avoid the green. Good luck.

Interesting. So maybe an auburn tone, will give it some highlight and stay away from greens? but will that make it orange?
:scared1:

Right now, i have a muddy blonde/brown color . lol

Anything will be better.

Let's preface with - I do hair....

OKay - if youre what youre ssing as 'muddy' right now, let me ask you - did you use an ash or a neutral (Im assuming neutral?)

I would go to Sally's beauty supply and pick out a golden (no, it wont be red, if youve got a base of an ash or 'mud') and a 10 volume peroxide. 10 vol only deposits color, and thats what you want.

IN fact - you could probaly get a 10 vol - with a golden toner. That would be the least damaging and fix your shade issue youre having.

If 10 is the lightest (platinum) and 1 (black) is the darkest - what color is your hair right now?

Thank you for your help. I dyed it golden brown tonight. And I love it. The blonde is still highlighting through in places. And right now, it looks fantastic, and full of life. But I wonder how many washes before it starts to look dead again???

Blonde hair is not easy to color...I am finding out.

You're going to fade real quick.

First what you need to do is apply a filler. That's the only way to you'll get that "rich" look. You'll need to put red/orange back into your base and then you can go over that with the final color.

Blonde hair needs to be darkened in stages or it'll be a mess. Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

Okay, so where do I get a "filler" ??? I like it right now! lol

I bought a color that makes it look brownish red, but it's a light brownish red. Not dark. ???Looks very natural.

Whats a filler?

If you like it now, I would just suggest using 10 vol. creme w/ the current shade if/when you fade.

I use semi/demi permanent color as a filler. You can get both at the Beauty supply. Basically a filler puts base back into your hair and helps "hold" the color. When you go blonde, you strip your hair of all it's base shades. To go dark, you need to replace the shades you removed, KWIM? I hope I'm not confusing you further! :lmao:

Nope, i think i got it this time. lol

I am just going to listen to you instead of trying to understand it.

Thank you!!
