Gringott's lives up to the hype aka what's a little lost sleep?

G forces are pretty much non existent....

Good...Thanks!!! BTW, how are the g-forces on MUMMY? I've been scared to ride it because of this uncertainty. I can't do a lot of g-force activity because such activity causes my artificial eye to give me pain....not a sensation I want to have on vacation. :(

Uncertain of G's but ROTM (Mummy) always gives me a migraine so I can definitely empathize with you

Out the door at Hard Rock Hotel this morning at 5:10, at the main gate to Universal Studios by 5:30. Already quite a large crowd. They opened the gates at 5:45 and we were through the turnstiles by 6:00. TM's were positioned all along the route to discourage running to the que area. We were held in front of the Fear Factor area for a little while and then directed to form single file line through a roped line. We made it into the holding area with the first group. We were allowed to sit on the ground, and even got out of the holding area to the restroom with no problems. Promptly at 8 they blasted our eardrums with their greeting and announcement that DA was now open.
So let me get this straight...to get on when it first opens you basically. Need to be at the gate at 5:30, then they open the gates at 5:45 but you don't get to ride until 8? So you just wait in line for about 2 hours? Just asking because we will be there in about 3 weeks, staying on site and trying to figure out the best strategy.wondering if it's worth it to get up so early if you end up waiting that long anyway...am I missing something? I mean 2 hrs is way better than 4 (which we probably wouldn't do) but it's still a really long time to wait for a ride.

We just got back, and for what it is worth, I will share our strategy. We left the Royal Pacific at about 6:40 and walked over. Entered the park immediately and walked toward DA. Stood in line outside DA near Men in Black. Line started moving before 7:00. By the time we reached the entrance to Gringott's at about 7:10 the wait time posted was 180 minutes, yes you read that right, 3 hours. A friendly cast member pointed us to the single rider line (which I don't think had been open as long as the regular line), and suggested that the wait would be much shorter. Had the ride not broken down, we would have been on in about another half hour. HOWEVER, the ride DID break down, and we waited about an hour for it to come back up. It was about 8:15 when we got off the ride (which I really liked a lot, but I do think that FJ is a better ride). By the time we got off of the ride, the posted wait time was 300 minutes! So, my takeaways:

1) You can either spend your wait time in line outside the park, waiting for it to open, or inside the park. We preferred to sleep in a bit, and do our waiting inside.
2) Do not take a bag. Serious time will be wasted stowing your stuff in a locker. Leave the bag with someone who won't ride, or get a pay locker in another area of the park first. Or, cargo shorts!
3) Use the single rider line. Your wait will be much shorter, and unless you have small kids who would not be comfortable riding alone, it really doesn't matter if you are sitting next to family/friends for the short duration of the ride. You will miss the stuff in the queue, but I am not sure it would be worth the extra time.
4) Be prepared for the ride to break, and to have to either wait or abandon ship during the down times. If we had been in the regular line rather than the single rider line, we probably would not have wanted to add the extra hour to the already 2-3 hour long wait.
5) It might be better to use the early entrance to tour the area, shops and visit Ollivander's, then try the single rider line later in the day when the waits have dropped back down from the 300 minute to the 180 minute range.
6) Don't take the Hogwart's Express from IoA to US during the early entry hour. You will have to exit the train, walk all the way back to the front of US and stand in line again.
7) We thought the Hogwart's Express was actually a better experience than Gringott's, but don't try to take it around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, when lots of guests are switching parks. We had a 50 minute wait at that time, but only a 10 minute wait at about 10:00 a.m.
8) Breakfast in the Leaky Cauldron was good, but pricey. Make sure to take your AAA card, if you have one for the 10% discount.
9) DA theming is amazing. Take the time to really look around.

Cheers!

Wintergreen, that is really great info. Thanks for the tip about AAA cards. I always forget about that! I would do the single line no problem but my youngest is only 9 so of course not going to have her go alone. It is a great idea for anyone 13 and up IMO. We are not even big HP fans but of course it's still awesome to do the rides. Plus we may not be back for at least a couple of years so we will prob try to work it out.

Wintergreen, great info and strategy. Thanks very much for taking the time to share your experience. :thumbsup2

We will be giving it a shot in less than a week. I'm feeling both  &

No. If you'll look at the dates I was there on OPENING DAY. That was why we qued up at 5:30am. We wee in the first group allowed into Diagon Alley after the welcome speech.

My DD and I just returned yesterday from a 5 night trip to UO. We rode Gringotts and only waited for 1hour and 15 min to actually step on the ride, it was posted 2hrs 30 mins on the sign though. It was nice and the very small drop is not bad at all!!! I don't do the Hulk or DD but I do Space Mt., Big Thunder Mt., and FJ. I do take motion sickness meds since I do need it now. It works fine and I don't have any trouble as long as I take it at least one hour prior to riding.
I would ride the single line now, you won't miss any of the attraction as you do with FJ.
NOTE!! Universal is closing the Gringotts line way before closing time because of the wait times! We tried to get in line at 8:00 (park closed at 10) and was told the line was closed because of the already existing line. That happened each and everyday..boo! That would make me mad if I had not had an annual pass and was planning on staying 5 nights. No way was that line 3 hours at 8 pm!!! I am sure the single ride line was empty at that time too! Other than the early closing of the line DA was wonderful!
