Great Movie Ride closes for Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway

It's weird.

I'm not a fan of the style of animation, but I think the ride looks amazing. It's like nothing I've ever seen before. 2 1/2 D!!! How do you like that Universal?

Any word on what they are doing with "The Great Movie Ride" stuff. The witch from "Wizard of Oz" would make a great coat hanger and the Lost Ark would be a nice coffee table.
I'll take the witch as a Halloween prop if nobody wants her....:rolleyes1

GMR is one of our favorites! I suffer from motion sickness/vertigo, so things like ToT, RnRC, Star Wars, and TSMM are off-limits for me. The description of the new Mickey ride makes me question if I'll be able to handle it. Also, that phrase "where you're the star" worries me that this will be another cop-out, video-game type experience, like the end of Spaceship Earth. I miss actual "things" and don't like that they are being replaced by video technology. Too bad.. we'll miss GMR.

Disney used to auction off old props on eBay; don't know if they're still doing that.

But I don't think that included audio-animatronics. If they're in good condition, they're usually reused in another attraction. Especially the WWotE, who is said to be one of their most advanced models. She may show up in Pirates or AA, replacing an older model. Or maybe she'll be the new redhead pirate.

Who knows, but we just were entertaining ourselves by saying well they can just move Sigourney Weaver to Pandora, stick Tarzan in Jungle Cruise (or at Disneyland's treeho, change some outfits on some gangsters/muchkins and put them in Star Wars Land or Spaceship Earth. John Wayne could be redone as Starlord and a munchkin as Rocket. It's a fun train of thought now that we've accepted the change amongst my family.

I watched the video of the announcement. I'm not digging the style of animation at all. I think it looks cheap and underdeveloped. Mickey doesn't look anything like the classic Mickey. The ears are shaped wrong, and the mouth is weird. The animation is what used to be called limited animation. I think Walt would have hated it.
This is my biggest disappointment about the whole project. The majority of Disney visitors have never even seen this version of Mickey and are going to be greatly disappointed when they see it. I don't believe that there has been a widespread enthusiastic acceptance of the new animation at this point. At least enough to Bank a replacement for an iconic attraction.

Not questioning the change.... WDW won't care.
SERIOUSLY questioning the TIMING :(. Folks, HS is 3/4 DEAD as it is.... close GMR in 8-2017? There is nothing worth bothering with in what should be some form of "park". Really the "park" should just shut down until WDW HAS a park.

Now, we love this place.... we're just going to go to the B&B Stage show, then get OUT of there, to a REAL PARK.

I don't know. Mickey's look has changed over the years. Walt wasn't anti-change.

While I'm not much of a fan of that new look, my kids love it and watch the shorts a lot.
Yeah I don't think they care much more about what the kids will think of it than us adults. Which is ok by me they gotta appeal to the current generation but I have a feeling most adults are gonna love it also.

I do two things there, B&B and Star Tours, then I'm out. So...very good point.

While a Mickey themed ride is great, and the Great Movie Ride has seen its day ... I think the decision to use this new style animation is awful.

This new "Ren and Stimpy" (for those who saw that show back in the 90s) style animation is rude, crude and met for teenagers .. not kids. I don't show these new Mickey shorts to my son (4yo) because the characters are just rude .. not the same characters he sees in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Mickey and the Roaster Racers.

What a poor decision for the park that has Disney Junior Live attraction.

I won't miss the Great Movie Ride as it really doesn't fit the theme of the park anymore. Sorta like a lot of the original attractions at DHS, it just wasn't really exciting the 2nd time through (like the Backlot Tour).

Frankly that attraction has been skipped the last two visits to DHS because:
1) Not worth using a Tier 1 FP on (when there is TSMM)
2) The lines were too long otherwise for a "simple" attraction
3) I though the Alien scene might scare the heck out of my preschooler.

I don't agree. I think that to the extent these "new" ones are "rude", it's more similar to the older Disney cartoons than the 90s versions. I don't see a problem with that. DD10 and DS12 find the shorts really cute and funny. I could be wrong, but I'd suspect what they would choose to put in the attraction would be pretty tame given the wide audience they're aiming for.

I personally think that at a pretty young age, kids can decipher cartoon behavior from how they can/should act. Particularly if we just talk with them about it.

And what I see in those shorts in nothing compared to some of the old road runner et al cartoons from back in the day...

Very good points . .it could be my "old fogey" perspective of things "back in my day" were better. But you are right .. Uncle Scrooge was rude .. Donald had an AWFUL temper on the littlest things and Bugs Bunny characters were pretty violent.

That being said, I do find the animation "ugly" though compared to the classic Mickey Mouse style .

I guess I would have preferred an animation style similar to that from "Get a Horse" .. and at first I thought that is what it would be because the ride concept seems similar to the concept of that short where you go "in and out" of the film itself.
