Grand Floridian shouldn’t allow non hotel guests

I’ve spent an afternoon (or late morning) or two stealing the amenity of the bar at SAB at Beach Club … they appear to control access to their pool to a single point of ingress/egress with a cast member directing the traffic … well that gate is the only one I see from my bar stool vantage point anyway … perhaps there are others

We stayed at Beach Club in January when SAB’s not even busy and they still used these protocols: regular pool gate by Beaches & Cream gave out the wristbands, both that gate and the gate by main walking path around Crescent Lake checked all Magic Bands when entering back (even though you had a wristband). That week was a very tight ship 😂

We peasants doing a split stay at SSR/BLT in a couple of weeks will be visiting the GF lobby.

.....and gasp! We will also be taking the monorail from BLT to do so.

We will not cower in shame but will stand with heads held high as we stare at the gingerbread house and Christmas tree.

May the train break and your gingerbread be flavorless

Nice to see another peasant from the barn visiting the GF lobby 🫡

I stayed there last December and was completely miserable. Couldn’t get food in a timely manner from gasparilla and every bus and monorail was full of people not staying at the hotel who wanted to see the gingerbread houses. I decided never again.
Our kids did the DVC tour 2 years ago during Christmas when they were selling both GF and Riviera. When they saw the madness of the GF lobby, they decided to purchase Riviera. It was pretty bad.

Again, they make exception for the 4th of July at the Poly to make the experience better for the on property guest. What makes this different? And that decision actively kicks out other guests from shared public spaces, which I’m not even advocating for.
Off the top of my head, Disney has also imposed limits on Top of the World Lounge on some holidays. But the distinction I would draw with both that and the Poly beach is that the restrictions are structured around a one-time event...the holiday fireworks. They limit access to the beach because once the space has reached capacity, everyone else is completely excluded. They're protecting that once or twice yearly event for guests of the hotel.

No Grand Floridian guests are being blocked from accessing the lobby or monorail.

Nobody said they had to pay for anything. If Disney wants people to pay to visit resorts, they'd require a hand stamp or something.
Your original point was anyone staying at wdw paid their pound of flesh

So how about those not on wdw property?

Otherwise your posts loose all teeth

Think we could argue lower monorail fees in our dues since we’re asked to avoid it for parts of the year?

Hahaha…no, because we agree to cover the costs of transportation provided…not a guarantee that you won’t have to wait…

But, if they add buses, which of course, will cost, the big problem that people are concerned about would be a positive move for guests who simply do not want to wait for the monorail.

Just because you’ve been going for years doesn’t mean your experience invalidates mine. Frequent visitors can have different perspectives, and no one should be expected to brush off legitimate concerns if something is off. If your assumption is that it’s primarily hotel guests contributing to the crowds, why was it so much worse this year? Wouldn’t that suggest a significantly higher occupancy rate?

Everyone has different expectations and tolerance levels. That doesn’t mean I need to lower mine simply because “it is what it is.”
Every poster will invariably apply their own experience and bias when commenting. That isn't meant to "invalidate" someone else's experience. In the case of the post I was responding to, a pretty specific picture was painted. One that I personally don't feel was completely outrageous for a holiday period.

At the same time, few of us are in a space like a resort lobby for more than a few minutes per day. Even as a resort guest or visitor, we don't know what things were like minutes or hours before/after our walk-through. So it's difficult for all of us to judge whether changes are warranted, much less what sort of effect they would have. Nobody is putting a number to it but the implication throughout this thread seems to be that some massive number of non-guests is visiting the Grand Floridian. We don't actually know if it's 80% of all guest traffic or 50% or 10%. And whatever the number is, if you're blocking people both coming and going, I'm skeptical that it would have any positive impact on boarding wait time when demand peaks.

Why is Thanksgiving 2024 different than other years? I've touched on the Poly walking path. There are undoubtedly a lot of guests from both the Poly and GF who would visit the other resort to browse or dine. Right now, all of that guest traffic is using the monorail. Twice. That will change in a few weeks.

The entire Thanksgiving holiday has grown in popularity. 10 years ago, it was an under appreciated time when families could visit without missing much work / school. More recently, Thanksgiving replaced Easter on the blockout list. (BTW, the photos posted on the Grand Floridian thread were from Sunday, December 1. This is the first day that Sorcerer pass holders could visit the parks after being blocked-out for 4 days.)

Over the last 2 years, I believe some portion of Grand Floridian guest rooms has been closed for refurbishment. So the resort was likely operating under maximum occupancy in 2022 and 2023. If this year really was so much different than others, it surely makes sense to wait and see if a pattern is developing.

To be clear, I'm not opposed to transportation tweaks. Disney should absolutely increase boat capacity and maybe even add some sort of bus service if warranted. I don't think we have enough information to judge whether monorail policy changes are practical or needed. One of the biggest challenges is communicating policy changes to guests. It's easier said than done to educate thousands of guests regarding a different queuing process for the monorail.

The idea that certain guests should be blocked from the resort to create more lobby elbow room is bunk.

Since Disney chooses to not require spending to visit, we could say they are the ones paying for that in terms of lower profit margins right?

My guess is that most off site guests who are not there to frequent WDW are not spending the money to visit GF.

If I’m a Universal guest, I am either Ubering to TTC…paying to park at MK…driving to DS and busing from there. That’s a lot of time just to look and take a few pictures.

Seems the number of people doing that who would not be spending anything would be relatively small…

I’d bet a lot that the guests there are indeed those who are WDW visitors, staying on or off property but visiting WDW parks.

The 40 square miles of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is among the most expensive to visit property on the surface of the Earth. Rest assured that everyone at the Grand Floridian this season has paid to be there. They may not be sleeping there that night, but they've paid enough.

So original post. To which you followed up saying there are no freeloaders

But I am missing how someone staying off wdw property is “paying” to be at gf using the original post logic

Please try and rinse the mud off your boots before stepping in the lobby. We know you don’t care about who has to foot the cleaning bill.

If Disney were to add additional buses to MK from GF, does it make sense to reserve those buses strictly for the unwashed peasants? This would allow the Royals of GF to easily access the monorail while also limiting potential exposure to the impoverished. Thoughts?

I see. So they are staying on I-drive, but visting the Grand Floridian. They may not be paying a hotel bill to WDW but they're still buying merch, paying for parking, food, etc. Disney is happy with the arrangement or they'd charge admission for the hotels.

I do like the idea of looking down upon my kingdom

I think a fleet of golden carriages where the SSR resale owners pull us to the front of the MK will suffice.

Unfortunately, if they behave then the carriage driver won’t have to whip them.
