Grand Floridian shouldn’t allow non hotel guests

Last week, while I was at the Grand Floridian, I witnessed a family of six at the Courtyard pool, and they openly mentioned they were staying at the All-Star Resort. However, they had another family join them—one that wasn’t staying on Disney property at all. They were all there waiting for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP) to begin. To make matters worse, they brought their own food and drinks with them, clearly taking advantage of the resort’s amenities without being guests.

I’m curious—do you think it’s okay for non-resort guests to use the pools at Disney resorts? Is this something that falls under the idea of a public space, or is it more of a privilege reserved for guests staying at the resort?

No, because Disney has made it clear that pools are for resort guests. If that was happening it should be reported…I would…and the resort should take care of it.

That is the whole point of what some have said…the lobby and transportation, as well as shopping and dining has been opened by Disney to everyone, which means when you book at a Disney resort, you know that.

Now, if Disney said that their pools are open to the public, or thst pool hopping was allowed, then it would be okay for those people because guests would have no expectation of exclusive use.

It is all based on what and how a space is designed and I am pretty sure most get that…

Many, including me, have said that Disney should ensure that they have additional transportation options available to resort guests when demand is higher than normal.

But, I have also shared that I am a regular December visitor to GF and what I have experienced has always been in line what I would consider “expected” for the holiday season…crowds and extra time to get a monorail.

TBH, our experience at the end of August, having to wait, was unusual.

No because it’s forbidden by rule by the folks that own the place

Do you think that the experience of guests who are at the park on Xmas day is the same as December 20th? They both probably paid a similar price for their park ticket…but getting a much different experience.

I will keep saying it but the monorail, lobby and restaurants are not exclusive for those staying at GF and as long as they are not, then everyone using them is in the same situation because no one has more right to it than anyone else.

Now, wanting Disney to increase the buses and boats to ease the transportation issues is definitely something they should be doing, so that those staying there have options other than the monorail.

Well there is one thing to consider

The parks have an actual capacity limit. They won’t sell more tickets than capacity allows

Hotels. Technically it’s unlimited until the fire marshal shows up

Yes Christmas Day is busier than most other days because rarely does Disney actually hit max capacity. But the point is there is a limit for one and technically no limit for the other

So how does this get fixed

I’m not going to personally accuse someone or go report them to a cast member. That’s a stress I don’t need. Plus we all know Disney is so special it brings out the brawler in people.

Two dads wanted to fight me at the Ak lion king show. I just got up and walked out. I’m not going to risk a trespass over something so trivial as a pool violator

But Disney 100% needs to step up and police this. In no way should the guest be the police

Haven’t used the pools lately but last time we did we had to tap our way in the gate, not sure if this is still the case or not … the problem may be when folks hold the gate open for the violators … I’m a law and order guy so I had no problem allowing the gate to slam shut to lock out the infiltrators

Two families. They had two kids with Mickey ears on directly in front of my daughter. My daughter was young and couldn’t see the stage over the ears. I dared to ask the mom to have her kids take off the ears for the show

I was polite. Mom said no so put put my daughter on my lap. I was scolded by a cast member to remove her from my lap so I gestured to cast member about the ears

Cast member asked them to remove the ears and from there it became a thing

The moms were egging on their husbands and instigating the whole thing as the dads never actually saw or heard the exchange directly but they were more than happy to try to start a fight

I just left with my family as it wasn’t worth what was likely going to turn into something once the event ended

Gf pools just have a handle and are unlocked. No band reader

I have indeed reported it at RIV and those guests were asked to leave. I don’t think that guests should confront others.

I also was at CBR when they were doing the wristbands so I do think they recognize it and are working to enforce it better.

Parks having a limit doesn’t matter because this conversation is about the experience and what a guest of GF should or should not expect when they stay there during the holidays.

Same with the park. Should the guest who goes on Xmas expect the same level of crowds on a different day because they paid too and expected a less crowded experience.

The answer is really no.

All that needs to be done is limit the resort monorail loop to people that pay for the resorts at peak times. That would cut down on 90% of the problem while still being open to the public.

I’ve spent an afternoon (or late morning) or two stealing the amenity of the bar at SAB at Beach Club … they appear to control access to their pool to a single point of ingress/egress with a cast member directing the traffic … well that gate is the only one I see from my bar stool vantage point anyway … perhaps there are others

Except that is going to increase the time for resort guests as well because they will have to scan everyone to make sure they are staying at the resort, which might increase times when currently there are not.

Since dining is open to all, and those coming to the monorail resorts to eat, must use that to get to any of the three, unless they drive.

So, it’s impossible to limit the monorail to just resort guests unless Disney prohibits dining at those resorts from non resort guests too.

It would have to be resort guests and those with dining reservations.

So cut the TTC stop?

They monitor SAB by giving out wristbands. They experimented with that at CBR this summer.

Wristbands would be the way to go at all the pools…

Aulani does this too … kind of a pain to have to get it every day but it must be necessary… and they don’t even have a gingerbread house there!
