Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Reporting in: W8D3 Goofy training.

60 min aqua-fit class done!

Now for some major XT as I rush through the house getting ready for friends to arrive tomorrow. Oh I know they won't care about a little clutter, but it's a good excuse to get it done. I used to think that once all the kids were out of the house my standards would improve, but most of them left a lot of their stuff behind. And we added two retrievers to the family, a golden and black lab, so we have both light AND dark dog hair floating around. I guess that is why they call it FURniture!

RftT training was hot hot hot. I hope that means much cooler weather for FL in January.

This weekend is the DesMoines HM. I'll be trailing Anne and Pat to get it done. I'm liking this style of training. Maybe I'll feel a bit better this weekend than last weekend.

Syko, Kristie, I'm so glad you stepped from your shyness a bit to join us. It was wonderful to chat with you and your DD is such a cutie. Of course you know I also adore Tinkerbelle.

Glad to read that everyone has a good training going on since I'm not where I'd like to be, I guess I'll just have to make it work.

Lily, Pat and Anne.. another HM this weekend?!?!? Woohooo!!! Lily you'll do just fine! Just in case I disappear before you 3 leave HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!

Kristie: Tinkerbell! How is her training going? She was such a cutie at the Princess meet.

Pat: I hear ya on the FURniture. A tri-color corgi leaves quite the mess of fur.

Positive thoughts everyone!!! Remember, there will be lots of team mates and family on both days so lots of positive support around every corner :goodvibes

1 step at a time. Next up! Cindylou's marathon and Lily, Anne & Pat's HM! You all will get it done this weekend!!! :cheer2: Not a doubt! I know you all have it in you and the same applies to January! Now tackle those miles!

Have a shoe question. How many of you will use one pair on Sat then a different pair Sun?

Asking because the shoes I have now are giving me a blister along the side of one heel once I go over 5 miles in them. It's same socks as always, use bodyglide on that foot, shoe is lace locked but still getting it. Means I have to get a different pair and really do not want to lay out $200+ to have two pair for Jan. Wondering if it's a big deal to use same ones both days.

Thanks

Hi Kim!

Hey Liz! I have 2 pairs for January. Yup. HAVE them. :woohoo: I actually went with 1 pair that is last seasons style of a shoe I have had 2 pairs in and liked. I actually did my 13.1 miles in them on Saturday and all went well. I picked them up on Amazon. Brooks Trance 8. Found them for about 1/2 off (might be a wee less even but old memory) plus free shipping. I missed getting a good deal on them back in the summer and really kicked myself. So I jumped on it this time around.

2nd pair is a New Balance 1225 THANKS TO DEBRA!!!! found at T.J. Maxx for $39.99 (?). I have run before in I think 1222's that I just loved. I have a pair of 1224 (?) that I bought in the same size as the 1222's and weird my toes touch the front just often enough to bug me crazy! So they became gym shoes. Well my current outdoor running shoes are 769 (SALE!) and when I got them they told me to go up a 1/2 size and they were right they've worked beautifully so I knew if my 1224's didn't have the toe issue I'd be happy so trying the 1225's in my new size wasn't a stretch. They've been in the gym for jogging on the TM training. I think they might make it outside this weekending.

Planning on a few days but only to confirm they both work for the days I plan on using them.

They say the shoes need time to recover between uses so having 2 pairs seems like a good plan. Plus what happens if it rains on Saturday? We have lucked out in past years but I just know someday it's going to rain on one of my longer racers LOL

Now shoe lace locks? Tell me more! My laces, tied the way I like them don't leave much room for pretty bows. I was thinking of trying something new. I know those things exist but haven't taken time to look.

Good question! Can't wait to read everyones thoughts.

Personally I run on two different pairs of shoes. I alternate throughout my training as well. Of course I'm still on the same shoes I ran the last goofy on and started running on last November. After my half this weekend I'll be braking out 2 new pairs of shoes for this years goofy.

I ran my 3rd back to back halfs this past weekend in Hartford and Boston. I packed lighter for this one than I had the prior 2 as I did not check luggage this time. (Thanks airlines!!!) I did wear an active running shoe for traveling (I rarely wear running shoes for non running when they are being used for running).

The plan was to run in the packed pair of NB 758's Saturday and run in them again Sunday if they were ready. The NB 1063s I wore for travel were my backup plan in case the 758s were wet. It didn't rain in Hartford Saturday but was humid so the shoes were pretty wet post run. I used a blow dryer to accelerate the drying process and was able to use them Sunday as well.

My plan will be the same for Goofy.

I'm in the same spot as Chris. I use 2 pair and after my half this weekend I'll be looking for 2 more to replace these. I sweat quite a bit and shoes really get wet that way. Plus that rain factor. Ya never know. If you don't mind the risk of going with damp shoes, I'm guessing it would be ok. They will be wet/damp again from those steps if it's hot/wet out there.

I just like the option of the second set. Maybe a little Internet search can bring up a bargain as Diane found. What is the brand that works for you.

Diane - lace locking is a way of threading the laces at the top to stop the heel from shifting. This is the first pair of shoes I've had to do that in.

The last shoes I had were PI SynchroPace II which of course they no longer make and I searched everywhere when they first went missing from RW. I've also done well with Saucony (would have to check the model). The ones I have now are NB but obviously not working.

I'm back! Had a blast in Disney and highly recommend the Breast Cancer 3-Day to everyone.

I am only a little worse for the wear having walked 60 miles in 3 days. My legs were back 100% by Tuesday, only 48 hours post event. I put SKINS recovery tights on each night after walking, but since we were camping both Friday and Saturday I was unable to do my customary cold soak those days. I did soak on Sunday.

The downside is that I came back with a bit of a cold and have not pushed myself back into any cardio yet. I had a 30 minute strength session with my trainer yesterday but felt so wiped out afterwards that I skipped the elliptical. I plan to get back on the TM today... Another session with the PT tomorrow and hopefully I won't wimp out on the elliptical again!!

Now that the 3-Day is behind me, I really don't have a plan for Goofy training. I guess I better think of something..quick! I don't plan on any more long b2b's. I suppose I should at least be doing a 12-20 miler once a week... Any guidance? Maybe pull out my old MFM plan from last year and count back to this week in the plan and start there?

Kirstie--glad you have worked the mechanical problems out. :thumbsup2 Glad you said that about being shy. I suffer from the same affliction. I went to that meet before the Princess last year, and really didn't talk to many people. Hopefully I will do better this time around.

:sail:

Sure has been quiet arond here!

I am in worse shape than I thought. Worked on legs with the PT on Friday--now I can barely move them! Perhaps even though I did not feel sore after the 3 day walk I was still in need of recovery. DH thought a weekend of rest was in order before jumping back into the long walks...and I was not difficult to convince.

I will officially start my Goofy training tomorrow and look forward to my first long walk a week from today.

Congrats on the 3 Day Christine!!! :cheer2: SKINS huh? Are you planning on using those after the 1/2 in Jan?

I think it's quiet because of the RfTT last weekend and I know Pat, Anne and Lily all had a race this weekend. Chris I saw had something too. I think the event to event might have quieted things down.

For me the Wine&Dine weekend next year has me day dreaming LOL

I had a sucky 9.75 miles yesterday. Went out for a long day with the plan of 3/4 mile walk and 1/4 mile run intervals. The 1st 6 miles seemed to be ok, avg pace was good but my calf was tight. By mile 8.75 it was cramping. I'm guessing dehydration because of the colder weather I'm not drinking as much water and increased my coffee. Today is my rest day and I hope I can jog again on Monday. Will try again on thursday to test my Marathon interval plan.

Hope your cold is past and your training tomorrow goes smoothly! Not sure what to say about a plan. Counting back sounds like a start to see if you feel you could jump in there. Let us know what your plan says and how tomorrow's day goes. :flower3: ENJOY your well deserved day off!!!!

Hey Goofy's what's going on?

My training is goind well although my longest back to back has been a 5 and a 4 and that was last week. Ran a half on Sunday and for some reason I'm a little sore still so I'm taking another day off.

I'm pretty sure I'm only doing back to backs every other weekend. My last real back to back was in September when I did 4 and 12. This week I have TOT so I'll be doing 8 miles for my long run this weekend.

How's everyone's training going? Anyone post their plan and I missed it?

I just saw the list in an email from the disneysports endurance team. There's quite a few of you out there... :worship: Way to go.... :woohoo:

Sorry to hear about the cramping, Diane. Hope things are going better today.

Yes, I do plan on wearing my SKINS after the 1/2 in preparation for the full. Also, Biofreeze. Does anyone know if they sell it at the Expo? I am planning on only carry on and realized the other day that I won't be able to bring a tube of BF in my carryon. Using a bunch of the little packets would get rather annoying...

I felt pretty strong on the TM yesterday. 5miles. But, still no running. I am working on 4mph which is technically "good enough" but I's like to do better. The plan is to run for 2 minutes at the start of each mile.

Hope everyone did well with their events this past weekend. :woohoo:

Does everyone who has ever registered for a Disney race get these emails or is it only sent to the people who are registered for the marathon? I am unable to confirm my registration because I am registered through a charity. I know I am registered since I received a confirmation form Active.com for the Goofy so I am not worried just wondering about this email since I did receive it.

Hi All! Sorry I've been lax in my reporting in. I did the Des Moines IA half on Sunday and am still trying to catch up.

W9D2 Goofy training - 50 min TM done.

Des Moines, IA half went well for me. I'm glad it was cooler. Now for more steps.
Tricia, I don't know about how they handle the emails for those registered via a charity.

Chris, there was some discussion earlier how everyone was going to manage their b2bs or not. I follow MfM. Thanks to Christa who linked a plan from a few years ago I've followed that for the b2b method. If I do the b2b method it would begin this wekend since MfM plan calls for a 12 miler. This would be ever other weekend from here out with b2b. I'm not sure of the need to do this and have managed well with following the marathon training schedule and not doing b2b. Do what you think fits your mind. Your body will be ready. Now is where you need to be most mindful of overtraining.
