Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Jeanne - You couldn't have picked a worse day to do the 20. I just finished 10, and thought if I'd had to more I would have called it quits at 10 no matter what! I'd forgotten you were doing 20 until I reread your post, and I'm sending lots of pixie dust your way! (For those of you not in NC, we've had gorgeous weather all week, and today is the most miserable day in months. Humidity is unbearable, and we started our run this morning in the upper 70's at 7:00)

Syko - Good luck tomorrow! Hope the chair is in perfect shape.

Mama2ja - :welcome: Feel free to come down to NC and train with us anytime. We get our share of cold weather before January, but nothing like you do. A couple of weeks before my first Disney race I ran in 65 degree weather and LOTS of humidity - almost the exact same conditions as race day!

Just finished 10.5 very sticky miles with a scavenger hunt thrown in for entertainment. Never a dull moment with our group. We'll see if we can get another run (or walk) in tomorrow. I still have no official BTB runs in my plan until after Richmond, but DH and I are throwing them in when we can.

Jackie

Good luck and have fun to all the RFTTers! I wish I could be there and join in the fun, especially as you're there. But since I can't, I guess I'll just live vicariously through your RRs. :rotfl2:

Welcome mama2ja! You've got quite a schedule set up, and in much different training conditions than Chicago (or in Pittsburgh, where I live). Part of the challenge, right? :rolleyes1 Sounds like a lot of fun, with none more fun that the Goofy madness! Woo hoo!!

Jeanne: Good luck with today's 20 miler--and thanks for the update on your weather, Jackie! I don't envy either one of you right now; much too hot for me.

Kirstie: Great news with the chair--have a great training session and I just know you'll love RFTT!

Anne: So impressed with your pre-RFTT plans. Not exactly a taper is it? Not with Goofy on the books! :thumbsup2

Terri: Thanks to Jackie's idea, I took pretzels along for my LR this weekend. Perfect. Definitely worth a try!

Jackie: Scavenger hunt? Do tell!

As for me: For those who don't know, I had to defer Baltimore this year, and so I've been sulky this week. :headache: So I decided to continue the b2b training. Did 16 on Friday (TM again, rain), and 7 and change this morning (outside, with sprinkles). Would have done 8 miles, but called it good.

Also, I tried the new(?) assorted flavors sports beans this morning. Not quite sure they'd work for me on longer runs, as some flavors are, well, icky. (Not as unsettling for me as the Clif Shot Bloks, but still...) Anyway, it raised a question for me that I'm hoping one of you can answer.

What's the difference between sports beans and regular jelly beans?

Posting her, because even though I am not doing Goofy, you guys ARE my support team!

First the good news: My daughter Jenni (the one who is marrying the Greek) just ran the Chicago marathon today in under 4 hours!!!! She has been trying to break the 4 hour mark since doing 4:01 at WDW in 2007. Today she called a little after the race and said she was close to making her goal but felt pretty sure that she just missed it again. Well the results are now up and SHE DID IT! 3:59:58, but it's still under 4 hours! :cool1::cool1:

Now the bad news: I had a stonker to end all stonkers yesterday. I just saw Jackie's post about the weather and maybe that had something to do with it because I had no idea it was going to be that warm. I was more concerned that we were going to have a major downpour and prepared for that. I was determined that nothing was going to keep me from getting all 20 miles in. I don't know what happend but around Mile 6 I hit the wall and could not get past it. I struggled for 9 miles more but when I reached my car at around 15.2miles and finally got some more water, I was too dizzy and nauseated to continue. Same thing happened to John. Originally we thought we would just turn off the Garmin and get the miles in regardless of our time, but neither of us could muster up the strength. It probably didn't help that we ran out of water and actually had to beg for it from people who were finishing their run at other openings on the trail. My tongue was so dry it felt like an emery board. It really bums me that I didn't finish what I set out to do, but in this case I was truly afraid my health was in jeopardy. I will NOT have another opportunity because we will be out of town the next 2 weekends and my body is screaming taper! Both my 16- and 18-milers were very strong, so I am going to try to carry the memory of those into the NY race. Wendy says you will always have at least one major stonker every season and up to now, I have not. I guess it's better to have it now than during the actual race. I just wish I knew for sure what caused it so I can prevent it from happening again.

Debra? 16 miles on a treadmill? I don't know how everyone does that. The but since I have to use the gym's I'm limited to time unless it's dead. I hope you have the TV in front of it :thumbsup2

Syko? How did the RFTT go with the adjustments?

Jackie/Jeanne .... yuck on the weather!!!!

Jeanne  that totally sucks on the stonker. But a big YAY!!!! :cheer2: For your daughter's big accomplishment!!!! Woohoo!!!

Ok I am behind in posting my workouts but I've been good and doing everything when I should. Gym 3 times a week. Long days, shorter days. With the exception of last week. I got my 3 gym days in, skipped Thur/Fri workouts and did something fun on Saturday morning....a class at the scrapbook store. So since I was going to run out of time I did a mid-distance for my LSD. But it wasn't slow!!!!:cheer2::cheer2: Oh yes, I'm cheering! I was all but doing back flips finishing but 1st....

2 weeks ago I did my 16 mile (it's like my 3rd one at that distance) in 3:58. Avg pace 14:43. YAY! I was like 3 minutes slower than my 2008 Marathon 16 mile mark.

That day I also completed my 2009 Turkey Trot. I kid you not I trotted with the Turkeys LOL At like 2.5 miles I spotted our local wild turkeys, one was crossing the path at some speed (for them!) and sure enough when I came up along side the section they were in they were trotting along  I just love spotting the wildlife when we go out.

Ok, now for my real excitement...... 2:51:25. A time I won't forget in the near future..... the length of time it took me to complete my 13.1 mile training day on Saturday!!!!! I figured since I couldn't do my planned longer distance I would see just how fast I could complete 13.1 these days. I figured I would come in like 2:58:59 LOL My Jan 2009 WDW Half was 3:11. I was grinning from Mile 10 on since I knew I had it all but on the books. That last 1/2 mile though was a bit more painful, but afterwards, Sunday all I have going on is a bit of stiffness. I highly doubt I'll do that again before January but I wanted to so bad so I would have that confidence for 1-10-10. So yup, I was all but cheering myself on those final miles on Saturday
:rotfl: Just don't expect that kind of pace in January :lmao:

RFTT: Chair ran great :cheer2:but I am not happy with my time. 28:14

The broadwalk wood is a nightmere, my wheels kept spinning in all the wrong directions and that killed my speed.
Nothing I can do about it, so for the marathon i'm just going to slow down as I get there and save my energy.

Epcot was just as bad, but for a different reason.
The 3k was still going on and I was told I had to slow down, at one point I had 4 escorts :scared1: as the 3k people where on both sides of the cones, they went clockwise around WS and the 10k anti.

Once we got to Aferica we where on our own and we picked up the pace again until we got to the start of WS and we met the 3k's again, but I only had 1 escort at this time, the one I had from the start, a really nice guy.

We where fine until we went backstage to exit Epcot and both the escort and I where shouting to people that we where comming through and a kid steped into the parth of my escort, the kid was knocked over and as I stoped I hit my escort.
The kid got up and was holding his arm but did not want any medical attention, so we went on and finished.

I was happy with my time at mile 2 : 6:33.
I don't know what the rest where as they where not on when we passed them as I was ahead of the truck that turnes them on!!!!

I just wish that I had been able to run with my new wheels instead of my crashed ones, but I have no idea when I will get them!!!

It was great to meet everyone at the meet, but I must admit that I am shy and don't mix well. I will try to get better at it though!!!!

Syko - Glad to hear the chair ran ok :woohoo: Kinda scary for you in a few spots huh? Yikes! When is your next race?

I hit the gym last night. Did the core and only a warm up/cool down to loosen up the legs which are much happier. Now as long as I don't fall asleep when I get home I hope to try the TM tonight. :thumbsup2

I have a marathon every sunday for the next 3 weeks.
I'm trying to talk my DD into driving to Atlanta the fourth weekend as there is a 50K I would like to do, but at the moment i'm not having much luck!!!!

Reporting in a day late: Goofy training.

W8D1 - 55 TM done, but no ST, just too much to do.

So this is where the party is! I knew there was a reason I signed up for Goofy this year! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: Going to go and get caught up on everyone and report back, probably won't be until tomorrow, but I wanted to say :wave2:

Hello, Goofy team!!

Got steps in yesterday: 55 TM and 20 ST, but crashed today. Will head to the gym in the morning.

Jeanne, oh my goodness, what a run!!! 15.2 in those conditions is awesome!! You are going to be so good for NYC!! :cheer2:

Syko, it was great to see you and your family and to meet Tinkerbelle!! I'm glad that you got through it, but how frustrating!!

Diane, whhhoooooowhheeeee...you are really movin'!! Keep up the great work!

DK, :rotfl: good way of handling your depression..b2b's!!! Your question is a FAQ on the Sports Bean website:
Sport Beans are specially formulated with sports performance in mind. Sport Beans provide a source of easily digestible carbohydrate for fuel, the electrolytes sodium and potassium for proper fluid balance, and B1, B2, B3, and C vitamins for energy metabolism and good health
The Extreme Sports Beans have caffeine.

As we were doing the RftT course Sunday, I would ask Pat, "What mile would this be?" and try to imagine being there in January. Hopefully, it will be ALOT cooler!

:goodvibes Anne

I went out and did my scheduled 7 miles today. It seemed to take forever...

Anne and Pat, it was so great hanging with you too (and your DH Anne - it's Ted right?) before the race on sunday. I look forward to seeing you both at goofy!

Debra - sorry you had to defer Baltimore, that stinks.

Jeanne - sorry you had such a stonker!

syko - OMG! A marathon every sunday???

Diane - WTG on the fast half!!

Jackie - I see you are in NC. Have you ever done the Battleship Half in Wilmington? I am signed up for it, sounds like a fun race.

Krista - Welcome to the party! Your baby is getting so big!! He is too cute :)

Becky

Reporting in: W8D2 Goofy training.

40 min TM done while watching Biggest Loser.

Hey gang. Just getting back into the swing of things.

Looks like we have some good training going on. I got some runs in while at the world, but with the heat they were not as long as I would have liked. Glad I got that 10 miler in before I left.

Hi everyone,

Enjoying my taper before my marathon this Sunday. Hoping not to get sick with all the illness going around. Taking lots of vitamin C. I've mapped out my Goofy training which I'll start the beginning of November. I'll try to post more as I get into that.

Glad that training seems to be going well for everyone.

Have a great day.
Cindy

Good luck on your marathon Cindylou

Still chugging along with my Goofy training - not getting in quite the amount of miles I had hoped but I am still trying

Anne: :teeth: I was pretty excited!

Becky: Thanks!!!! Funny I think I have gotten 13 miles in at like 2:58 (have to check the garmin) but when your more concerned on trying to finish the remaining miles, the time it takes to get to 13 isn't all that important on those days considering all I want to do is be finished. So to be able to concentrate only on doing a certain distance to see what I could do was like WOW! Fun too!

Kirstie: Congrats on the award!!! 3 marathons in 3 weeks! WOW! Best of luck!!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Krista!!!! Welcome to the party!!!

Debra? I've been meaning to tell you I followed your shopping example and found myself a pair too :thumbsup2 When we were shopping i held them up to DH and asked "Do you think we'll look funny if Debra and I wear the same shoes for the same race?" :lmao:

Cindylou!!! Good luck and many healthy PD thoughts coming your way!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Tricia!!! Keep chugging along! Keep the faith, keep the plan and we'll see that final line on Sunday, Jan 10th!!! Woohoo!!!

Chris? I see your tracker is for a trip 11 months away and wanted to let you in on a secret....WE'RE ALL GOING TO DISNEY WORLD IN LIKE 90 SOME DAYS!!!! Oh and in case you missed it.... I trotted with Turkeys! Your on your own for Thanksgiving LOL Hope you and your DW had a wonderful time in the World.

Last night I dragged my wretched body to gym and JOGGED 4 MILES!!!! Yes, I finally got there in time to be able to finish 4 miles. Though my cool down was nonexistant. :( But still. 4 miles. Avg pace 13:09. 52 min and I think 30 odd seconds. Sadly all the TVs were set and I wasn't able to watch Biggest Loser with all of you instead I watched reruns of Ace of Cake. But I was happy to have an hour on the TM and a TM! There were more people last night

It's WEDNESDAY!!! YAY!!!! Weekends almost here!!!!

Diane - Yeah don't know why the Ticker did that. We had a blast on our trip. Oh yeah and I'll be back next weekend for TOT 13k. LOL!!

May skip the Turkey run this year. We'll see.

Nice job on the 4 miles.
