Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

WOW! It is getting closer.

Since I have been sick I scaled back a little this weekend. I did 6 instead of 8 on Friday night but I finished my 17 on Saturday. Actually was a pretty good run.

Hang in there everyone, this is where the training gets a little tougher!

enjoy,
Duane

Hey everyone! I decided at the last minute to drive up to Conway, SC (just outside myrtle beach) and run a half yesterday. It was a small race, really pretty landscape, only a couple of hills. My DH told me to give it all I had and so I did - I got 3rd place in my age division!! So exciting for me! I have always been a middle of the packer and to finally be called up at the awards is so amazing! I also shaved off 13 min off my fastest half. I finished in 2:07:56 - which is crazy fast for me. :yay:

I then had to come home and do 4 more miles to get in my 17. But it is done. I will try to work up a real race report for that thread later today.

Becky

Becky--that is awesome!!! I sure wish I was that fast! Congrats. And, good for you putting in another 4 when you got home. :thumbsup2

Duane, glad to hear you are back in the swing of things. Hope you are feeling well.

I had 8 on the schedule for today. Did 8.3. Average pace 12:52!!! I never figured I would break 13!! Last week I think I was 13:07. I guess it is helping to work my quads during the week.

Hope everyone did well with the training.

Congrats Becky - awesome job!!

Sounds like everyone else is plugging away....we are getting close.

AFM:

W11D5 Goofy training: 4.224 miles done
W11D6 Goofy training: 14 miles done

That 14 is the longest distance I've done in a long time.

Wow Becky...that's AWESOME! Congratulations!:cheer2:

Got my longest training run to date in this morning...20 miles. And all I can say is that last 6 miles is gonna kill me...:sad2:

At this point I am hoping to just go numb and not have to feel anything at that point!:rotfl2:

Becky 3rd place a new PR and then you went home and ran again.:worship:

CONGRATULATIONS

I went down the trail today and had planned on doing 40 miles, 20 at a normal pace and the 20 slower, as we got to the 10 mile marker we noticed that the trail was closed the other side of the road.
I told my DH that I would only do 20 and pick the pace up going back.......I did not realise that my disk break was stuck on and I could not get past 16mph, so I'm off to the shop again tomorrow!!!!!

I did 13.1 in 58:28 and 20 in 1:29.

Michelle! :lmao: I'm hoping for the numb feeling too LOL

BECKY! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: WOW! Congrats on that PR!

Pat your doing awesome! You should have another race coming up? Is it in Dec for Vegas?

Christine!! YAY on breaking the 13's!!!

Duane, amazing! I'd be milking it and still on the couch. Excellent job! Hope you continue to feel better and stronger :flower3:

Tricia? How's the leg that was bothering you doing?

KIM? What's the countdown now? How many weeks left? :scared1: I ask now while I'm not eating anything but I'm sure I'll read your reply during lunch on Monday LOL

Saturday for me was tough and slow. 18 Miles logged finally. Average pace 15:47. Think it was 4 hrs 43 min. Had a bit of an arch issue, thankfully I brought all my shoes. Since it was in my last 6 miles I waved my DH down and grabbed another pair and some motrin. That was at Mile 14. By Mile 14.5 felt much better. Slowed down. Came home and iced for good measure. Much better today and those shoes from yesterday are now out of the running.

Even though I had the arch issue. Finishing the 18 I was the expected tired and tired legs but otherwise I'd say felt good overall. Oh and had a near miss with a deer. It ran out of the brush at full run about 4 feet in front of me :)

Hope the coming week goes well!

Syko? The disk break thing, will they be able to fix it while you are there? Good luck with that!

I hope so, I took it in to them on friday and said that I thought it was stuck, but they told me no.:rolleyes1

So today after I finished I let my DH ride (I don't let anyone on it normally) and he new in a secound what was wrong, up to 13.5mph its on but not effecting things, anything faster and the pads are heating up too much and gripping the wheel.

I am in the shop every week at the moment, the chair's workings are so delicate, they told me on friday to treat it like a fine wine!!!!
I was hoping not to go in until just before space coast.:rotfl:

WTG Becky!!!!

syko - I hope you can get that disk break thing fixed.

Diane - Way to knock that 18 miles out. Great job!

Duane - As always way to be smart. Good job on the miles and glad to hear you are getting better!

AFM I finally got my first long back to back in for a good while and got 7 miles in on Saturday and 17 yesterday. I'm a little sore today, but not like after the 16 I did last week. I blame having to take the time off because of being sick, but you never know what the body will do to you.

Thanks for asking Diane - I am sure it will be something I am constantly dealing with but it felt better after walking on the TM for a few miles the next night. Congrats on getting in 18 - I am slowly getting there - I have no doubt I can do it because I have before but I am not looking forward to it. Glad it was a near miss with the deer and not a collision. That would have ended badly.

I was bad again this weekend and didn't get my full runs in. I did do a 10 mile bike ride on Saturday. I got 2 miles in this morning and after work I am planning on doing 15 miles on the TM - not so bad since there are shows on TV tonight I like to watch. Next weekend I will be down in the Florida Keys on a small vacation as well as at the NASCAR races in Homestead so I won't be able to get my long runs in. I am doing a 5k on Saturday morning though so that should be good. And I will catch up with my long runs during the week next week when I get home since I have the whole week off.

Happy Monday to all and keep on :cool1:getting those miles in.

Aw, thanks everybody!! I knew I could come here and everyone would understand my excitement!

Becky

Went to the shop today about my disk break and the guy was in a bad mood, :confused3 he did not want to do it and said nothing was wrong with it.

So my DH gets on it and takes it for a spin in the carpark and it starts acking up, so I got the guy to come outside to see it and he loosens my disk so much it now does not work,:scared1: and he told my DH to fix it.

I won't be on it until wed so he has time to try.

Kim, thanks for the count down! Eek!

I got in 8.75 miles over the weekend and I just don't know what's up. No I've got a new ache--on the outside of my leg below my knee. I've never dealt with it before so have no idea what it is or what is causing it.

Hate these aches and having to work around any of them. Not sure when I'm doing my 16 miler. Scheming for a way to make it a party!

Keep at it everyone.

Hi everyone!

W13D1 Goofy training reporting in - 55 min TM and maybe 10 min ST.

Diane, I actually have a couple of halfs coming up - Vegas on Dec 6th and Kiawah SC on Dec 12th, just following the successful Wendy plan of scheduling events for the long distances.

Lily I have my 16 miler this weekend....we can virtually do it together, what day do you want to go?

Count me in on the virtual 16. Okay, it will be an actual 16 with virtual partners! I am planning on going out on Sunday.
