Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Diane, hope to see you at the start..you are getting too fast for me!! Great job!!

Charles and Duane, you did one of the most important things to train for Goofy..mental talk!! It's going to be rough, but with all of the different paces we have here, surely we'll be able to find some of our fellow team mates along the way!! Me? I talk to anyone and everyone! That's one thing that keeps me going. ;)

Tricia, enjoy your weekend and the Keys!

 Hi, Kim!

The longest miles for me are coming up.. which is a little intimidating. Diane, thanks for posting about your fuel. Still working on that. I found a protein bar at the local health food store "Oh Yeah!" which I'm experimenting with for fuel before the race. Breakfast at the hotel at 2 or 3am can't be considered fuel for a race that starts at 6 (or for me 6:30).

AFM: got my biking done yesterday and 8 miles today. Week 13 COMPLETED!!

:goodvibes Anne

I'm trip planning today :) Dragged my carry-on's out so I can figure out how to pack 2 sets of race outfits and still have room for a magazine LOL Tomorrow is another training day.

Anne :goodvibes but of course you will spot me... you should see these bright yellowish green shirts I am planning on wearing ;) :lmao: I'm having my moments lately as far as worries. I tend to be MIA on those days. :scared: I haven't had a back to back in a while so that is worrying me a bit. I think what will be key for me is Saturday's nap and early to bed again.

Tricia! :woohoo: on the 5K!!! Enjoy the rest of your trip!!!

Hi Charles :flower3: Wonderful timing in finding that lady to talk and run with! So glad she was there for you to help you thru that rough spot.

Duane... running past the car is the toughest! Great job in pushing thru the wall.

Anne ... eating at 2 or 3 am is not for me either. This past Jan I put a breakfast bar on the nightstand so when the alarm when off I grabbed it and started munching while I dressed. I think it helped :) Gonna try that again this janary. i also have backup plans with me and have a few choices to eat with you all in the staging area before walking out. Usually I save a banana to eat on the way to the corral. But I've had a year where I couldn't stomach anything but my banana and some granola. I am not a morning person and trying to eat at 2:30 am and even at 4 am is tough for me. Add in nerves. :scared1:

Wow you have all been busy bees this week :thumbsup2 Not long to go now keep up the good work :cheer2:

I am just popping in real quick to say hi, i have the st pete's womens 12 tomorrow and I have been having leg problems all week so I will let you know how I go on with that :scared1: Anyway thats really all I have to say right now, so i am going to eat some carbs and rest my legs for tomorrow :)

TTFN :grouphug:

Nope Liz no Dopey for me. I just wanted to remind my friends who are doing Dopey,

Hey anyways, I believe 7 weeks yesterday I will be enjoying Tonga Toast with you;)

I got it done. It was not pretty yet again. 16 miles at max pace. Oh well, it appears I'm inching my way.

Charles, great to see you here. Hope you find that motivation. I know for me it is very difficult this time around.

Duane, good job getting the 18 miler in this weekend. I'm waiting and will tag it onto the Las Vegas half.

Anne, good job on the 8 miles today.

Diane, good job on the 14 miles. You are doing so well!

Kirsty, good luck with your event tomorrow.

Hey Everyone!

Charles - Good to see you over here. Between Duane and yourself I felt much better going into Goofy this past year. You wisdom is awesome!

Anne - My problem with breakfast is right now I eat McDonalds for breakfast before my long runs so I have plenty of fuel and down there I just can't duplicate that. I usually have a couple Peanut Butter Sandwiches and then take a couple with me.

Tricia - Enjoy your trip!

Diane - To Turkey or not that is the question! lol

Duane - Um Dude nice Schedule! Way to be smart with your run. If ya gotta walk ya gotta walk.

AFM - I got in my back to back again with 8 yesterday and 18 today. I had some hunger issues today so I'm thinking I didn't eat enough yesterday and it affected my stomach today. Stopped midway through my run and got a chocolate milk. Legs felt surprisingly good. Have 2 20 Mile runs left for my really long runs so I'm really happy with that.

I still can't believe how fast this is flying by and all us Goofy folks will be in Florida talking about how we're getting that Goofy Medal!!!!

Go Kirsty-Leigh! :cheer2:

Lily WTG on the 16, how is the leg issue going? How's your son's training going?

Duane... I tried the Pop Tarts after reading Matt's post and was it you that likes the Cinnamon? LOL I went with Strawberry. I'm not so sure it's for me but it was interesting and I do now have them in the pantry as a fall back item :thumbsup2

Chris... I'm planning on the 10K Virtual Race. So I will be racing with the real turkeys at my park this year. Funny how they moved to the field across the road recently. I wonder if they get nervous about this time of the year

Chris... Woohoo on the b2bs!!!

Kim :wave2: 7 weeks now? Tonga Toast... mmm. I saw that they also serve it at the Captain Cooks (?) counter service. I told Mom we might have to keep that in mind for one morning :) I'm trying not to add another sit-down to our schedule.

Showers and 43* is my Thanksgiving forecast. I am hoping to get in a bit more than a 10K done but even if it's raining I can survive at least a 10K :thumbsup2

Just saw today's and it will close to 60* YAY!!!! I'm eating brunch and heading out :yay: I was even good last night with pasta and a snack of honey toast. Good carb evening and plenty of water.

Have a GREAT Sunday!!!

Oh and Chris... when I go out to do the 10K on Thanksgiving I will remember to take Mickey and put him his Turkey outfit for the car :thumbsup2

Hey guys, I am just popping in really quick (I really need a shower, the bugs seems to be attracted to my smell at this point!) Just to let you know I did it! I got a new PR, I also saw Mel and her daughter out there and I must say we looked awesome in our WISH shirts! So it was a really, really humid race but I finished in about 2.48 (the clock time was 2.51 and my watch, which stops when I go potty, was at 2.46) I am still awaiting chip time, but I am quite proud (I did the princess in 3.04 chip time so its quite the improvement) :cool1: I wanted a 2.45 (to move up a corral at Goofy) but it was just so darn hot and I didnt want to risk my leg too much. :confused3 well thats my excuse and I am sticking to it! Speaking of my leg it held up thankfully, I went to the expo yesterday and tried some new insoles, they are called aline and you buy the custom for each foot! And I did the huge no no and wore them today, I know it was a risk but I could barely walk in my old insoles so decide to give it a go, well it paid off my leg hasn't felt so good since I started training and my shoes felt so comfy I didnt even take them off and swap them for my crocs after :scared1:

So all in all it was a good race, the starting corrals wern't all that well organized and it was kinda like a cattle market at the beggining of the race but it sorted out and turned into a beautiful run :cool1: I got LOTS of complements on my WISH shirt, which was awesome  and there was some great crowds, John Bingham the Penguin was there although I didnt see him myself. So I just wanted to let you all know that I survived and I am trying not to think about the fact that I have to do that and then double it the day after in 6 weeks  and just focusing on my new PR :D

Happy Sunday Guys

I am going to shower since my family is keeping a good distance from me right now :rotfl:

Kirsty

Kirsty - Great job! Glad the insoles worked for you too.

Anne - I'm particularly fond of Luna Bars, some flavors more than others. I'll probably have a bagel at 3:30, then board the last bus before 4:00. I had Luna bars and pretzels with me in addition to gels, PLUS whatever you guys gave me along the course last year! It's safe to say I consume more calories than I burn. :lmao:

Duane - Please get rid of the humidity before January. ;) Great job on pushing past the wall. It took me 8 miles last weekend, and then it was only the promise of a medal at the end that got me through. If I'd passed the car along the way... :rolleyes1

All along, I'd reserved the right to decide whether or not I'd do back to back runs until after I'd completed Richmond. Well, Richmond's done. We did a 10 mile run yesterday that was one of the most difficult I've ever done. At 7 miles I felt like I'd run another 26. Somehow I finished, but was determined that it would have to be an easy week before next weekend's 10. So we drove 2 hours to see DD in a parade, drove home, slept 10 hours, came home from church, slept 2 more hours ::yes::, then went out with DH for another 8 miles. What was I thinking? (Oh yeah, left out the small detail that Saturday's run was done at an avg 13:36 pace; today's was at an 11:49!)

Jackie

Hi All!

It has been crazy around here - we celebrated Thanksgiving today and Jim is recovering from the flu. I have gotten my steps in though and am really keeping my fingers crossed for just one more nice weekend next weekend for the 16 miler.

Way to go Pat!!!! :woohoo: Hope Jim is feeling better!

Jackie... Woohoo on the pace and the b2bs!!!

Finished my 18 miles this evening. I'm drawing a mental wall on the overall time, i keep looking it up on the garmin and promptly forgetting it. my body is already trying to forget the pain and all that goes with those miles LOL it dawned on me tonight that there is a whole lotta hurt waiting for me at WDW :lmao: If someone had told me I had to do another 2 miles tonight I could have done it, slowly but the thought of an additional 8 miles had me :scared1: I think my overall time was like 4:34. I know for sure my overall average pace was 15:17 because I looked at last week's avg pace which was 15:47 and was SHOCKED that I was faster this week.

15 does. 1 buck. 6 turkeys that were hiding in the trees LOL guess they know which week it is

On to the new week of training :scared: :upsidedow

Morning Guys!

I woke up this morning and for a second there I thought I had been hit by a bus yesterday :scared1: and then I realized that I ran a 1/2 marathon yesterday, and then I realized that in January I have to do a full marathon after a 1/2! :scared1: What the hell was I thinking :confused3

Diane - you are not the only one with pain heading for you at WDW

thanks for your congratulations everyone, I LOVE coming here and telling you my accomplishments :cool1:

Well I am supposed to be taking the kid to Disney today, we were supposed to be going to MK to see Princess Tiana, walking miles around the park pushing a stroller and carrying a 3yr old in long lines is going to feel awesome on my battered body :rotfl:

Have a good week guys :thumbsup2

Kirsty

I finally did a "true" b2b this weekend. I walked 8 miles on Saturday (half of it up and down a steep mountain road) then drove 3 hours to Tulsa for the Route 66 half-marathon on Sunday. The Tulsa route had a lot more hills than I thought it would. Needless to say, my quads are a little sore today. Ha! No PR but I did maintain a 14:30 pace for the half so I'm happy. And sore.

I'm really glad that I don't have to travel this next weekend. I've been traveling quite a bit lately and it's catching up with me....I'm tired. Has anyone tried those little 5-hour energy or something similar? I may need to try these things. My energy level is not what it used to be and I need something to help build it back up. Don't tell me to do more exercising.

Becky - a little late but congratulations on your PR and 3rd place finish! That is awesome! You are getting quite speedy! Way to go!

Diane - you are a machine! Are you going to do a full before Disney? You are way ahead of me in the mileage schedule. There's no way I could keep up with you. Way to go!!!!

Tricia - Hope you're having a good time in the Keys. Congrats on your 5K. Does this mean your legs are doing better? It's frustrating when aches and pains kreep in. I have a cyst on my left foot that's been giving me problems. According to the podiatrist, it's resting on a tendon. I feel tingling and numbness a lot. After about 3 miles into a run, I dont' seem to have any problems. However, the cyst seems to be getting a little bigger. I'm just hoping I don't have to do anything about it until after the Goofy. Sending some :wizard: your way just in case you need it.

Jackie - way to go for hanging in there. When I completed my very first race ever - the 2007 WDW half-marathon, I swore during the last few miles that this was it for me. I developed 4 blood blisters and I felt miserable. However, three days after the event, I signed up for the 2008 WDW full. I guess, like you said, the post-race high can keep you going.

Christine - yay on the change from Delta airlines. Were flying on NWA to Orlando and I've received 2 changes since I made the reservations. Not much difference from the original, though.

Syko - I'm sorry you are having so many problems with your chair. I can't imagine how frustrating all of this has been for you. Glad that you were able to find a part from the factory for less $$.

Anne - I hear you about the DLF at these smaller races. If I'm not last, I pretty darned close to it. I did a PR for the year at a race a few weeks ago but I was still close to last. Most of the participants for the half had finished by the time I was at mile 10. Thank goodness for the marathoners behind me. Keep up the good work and have fun walking those 16 miles with Pat. It's a lot more tolerable (for me, at least) when I can train with someone else.

Charles - I was there for the San Antonio run. It was HOT & HUMID. Reminded me of Florida weather. I was glad to finish that race!

Duane - good for you for sticking with the mileage. As Anne said and you well know - part of it is the mental game. Way to go for hanging in there. Hope to see you in Vegas! By the way, I eat those pop tarts before a race as well! :thumbsup2

Kirsty - Great job on the race and congrats on your PR as well! Awesome!!!! I sometimes wonder what the heck I was thinking about when I signed up for the Goofy. Then I remember - it's the 5th anniversary and the special medal!!! Oh, the crazy things we do for a piece of metal to wear around our necks.

Chris - you sound like you are back to full swing in your training. :thumbsup2 Keep up the good work!

Lily - get 'r done...any which way you can. I still haven't done anything longer than a 13-miler. Way to go for getting the miles in! Are your shoes working out better for you?

Pat - as always, keep up the good work. Way to go for following the schedule the way you should! I have no doubt that you'll be able to complete the Goofy! Way to go!

Hope everyone has a great training week and a very Happy Thanksgiving. I have a lot to be grateful for and the WISHers are right up there at the top!

Just wanted to pop in and encourage everyone to keep up the good work. I realize you're entering the ugly-miles phase, but don't get discouraged....that means you're getting close to the end. Great job, everyone! Can't wait to cheer for all of you in January.
