Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

You guys are right. This is the same guy who said that he is jealous because I seem to be having so much fun with my running and he never felt that way. He just wasn't lucky enough to find a cool group of people like WISH

Sign him up, Jen! You get a toaster oven with every 10 members you recruit ;)

Hey team, how's it going? Just a little over a week to the official start of my training. I have my plan, I have my rehabbed Total Gym, I have my WISH teammates for support and encouragement, I AM READY! Let's get 'er done!!

Stacey - Welcome to the group!

Pat - Wow! That is too funny that snowball loved the TG. Glad your hubby is handy. If it were up to my hubby, he would've just bought a new one!

Jbucci - That made me laugh! I can just see him looking at you all crazy and he is a runner!! You are in good company here!

I am getting up with the birds tomorrow to do my 10 miler!

Becky

It is great to see our group growing.

Pat, that is some great work your DH has done on that piece of equipment. Amazing how he can do everything!

Jen, that your co-worker has dubbed you one crazy lady is cute. I do hope you don't have doubts over your upcoming accomplishment! You know you can do it!

I'm looking forward to getting a grasp on the training. It all begins soon.

I finally got around to registering, so I am in for the Goofy Challenge 2010.

Yay Richard!! Come share the insanity!

Richard, Congratulations to you for registering! (I think) Anyway, here hoping your training goes smoothly. Looking forward to hearing about it.

I had a not so lovely 10 miler today. I definitely will need to dig in and get it going. Eek! DL is real soon too.

My DS was actually asking about the mileage requirement since he figured by the looks of me that I had a significant amount today. I explained the upcoming calendar and he is not at all worried about the beginning miles. He's not sure of the time commitment for the latter part. Glad he's not trying to fly.

Hi all! I haven't been around much lately as I am off the running list for awhile. I somehow managed to have a stress fracture in my hip bone and a ruptured disk in my back. I have no idea how I managed to do it, I didn't fall or have any type of injury. The biggest bummer is most forms of exercise are out for at least 4 weeks. I don't know how to not run. Grrrr. So I am hoping to start my training in Oct, only a month behind, but I am already running between 10 and 15 miles for a long run, hopefully I won't lose all of it.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your injury. It sounds like you have a pretty good base, so you should be just fine starting in October.

I am at the point of not adding miles to my long days until I get back from DL. I am paranoid about being injured.

Brandie:hug: I feel your pain, I have a stress fracture in my toe, and like you I have no idea as to how I did it!!!!!
What are they putting in the water in FL??:scratchin:
With your high milage you will be fine starting a month late, I have two marathons in Oct and I haven't started training yet.....hopefully next month.

Hi there.
I have been signed up for Goofy 2010 for a while now. This will be my first Goofy but I have run 2 marathons previous to this. My goal is still to just finish this event. It has been a rough summer and I have had a few setbacks. But I am kicking it into full gear to make sure I am ready for Goofy this year. So far, I am relatively pain free which is a lot better than I was this time last year. So that is encouraging.
Thanks for being here as I gain encouragement from reading everyones stories and advice.
Henry

Welcome to the Goofy gang!

We will be here to help you get to the finish lines both days!

Yikes, syko...I just noticed your signature. How did you crash? Are you ok?

Syko, what Mel said.

All my other Goofy friends, I had a discouraging 16-miler yesterday and am looking for non-injuring tips for increasing speed when you're... um... older, rounder, and slower. It wasn't awful -- and in fact went pretty much as I'd predicted. I was strong for the first 14 miles and then ran out of gas. I managed to keep up until right at 15 miles, then fell waaaaay off my Galloway group's pace during the last mile. I don't know how to get stronger on longer distances without doing longer and longer mileage during the week (in addition to my long "run") -- and I'm fearful that I'll end up injured if I try that. Any suggestions? Weight loss is a pretty obvious start. What about interval training? How does that work when you're not all that fast -- I mean, how do you determine your goal "speed interval" pace? I am pretty confident it will work itself out before Disney -- but unfortunately I have a pace group to keep up with in the meantime (and I'm actually supposed to be a group leader!)

I'm going to post this as a thread because I'll bet others have the same type of question. I'll link to that thread after I've set it up in case any of you want to respond. Here it is:
Recommendations for speed training for the older, rounder, slower?

Took my first spin class today. I am hoping it will help me with my speed and weight loss in the long run. I kept up pretty well with the endurance side of the class, but my seat was a little painful even with the padded bike shorts. Hopefully that will fade with time.

I can only offer a  and know that others will offer you good advice!

I'm struggling with my weight, nutrition and sleep as well. I keep saying Monday, but then I keep eating and gaining weight even with the running. Have I reached a breaking point? Nope I'm still doing it.

Got 7 miles in yesterday and they were Hot and Sticky one's, but I'm glad they are done.

Yikes, syko...I just noticed your signature. How did you crash? Are you ok?

I'm fine, thanks, but my chair is still in pieces!!!!! I have most of the parts for a re build....just waiting for some screws. then all I need is some new wheels!!!

This is what I did: I hit 30mph and the back wheels start to lift off the ground, I somersault sideways 1 and 1/2 times, black out during the first somersault. When I came too when I was still in the chair, having landed but I was still sliding down the hill to a stop!!!!!!

After talking to the manufacturers it turns out that my dampner was not on full......they did not tell us how to change this as they did not think I would be going that fast!!!!!

Wow that sounds scarey. Sounds like you could have been really hurt. So glad you are ok.
