Good campsite on the ocean?

We stayed at St Andrews State Park in Panama City on the way home from the Fort last year. It added a few miles, but it was great, close to the beach and the kids particularly enjoyed watching the Alligators at one of the inland ponds. We actually enjoyed it enough we booked a similar location for a June at Grayton Beach but will cancel since we just decided to do a Fort Vacation for Thanksgiving

I really really don't want to rain on your parade, but I was born and raised in St Augustine and the last time I checked out this campground (about 2 yrs ago), I was so disappointed in all the permanent trailers that people lived in. There is absolutely no shade or trees. The pool and CS's are clean but old. Now it is right on the beach, but the cg itself will be so disappointing to you. :(

. . . .as stated you will not be happy with bryn mawr unless you get a waterfront site, and then the campground still sucks. . . . .

Oh that's ashame about Bryn Mawr. We stayed there many, many years ago and thought it was a terrific park and have talked about going back there. At that time, it was very clean and up-to-date. Too bad that it's gone down hill and converted to some permanent sites. Guess we'll scratch that off the list.

We've decided to keep our reservations at Bryn Mawr. Anastasia State Park is full, and North Beach Camp Resort is on the other side of the street from the ocean... we just want something right there on the ocean. Our site at Bryn Mawr is not an "ocean side", but it is just 2 sites in from the ocean side ones.

I looked at some photos of Bryn Mawr, and while the park models are kinda chintzy, I think we'll survive. I don't mind much about the aesthetics, as long as it's a safe campground. We'll tough it out ;) It will only be for one night, and the next day we'll be at the Fort!

I'll post an update and pictures after we stay there.

I missed the point that this would only be for one night. Heck for that matter you could park at my mom or dad's house! :thumbsup2

Glad you are going to the Fort to have a blast!

Here are the shots; we were at site #95. Had water and electric (there are two dumping stations in the CG), right next to a trail to the water. Lots of shade which was important in August in South Carolina.

BEAUTIFUL PICS! Hunting Island SP definitely gets my vote for one of the most beautiful and laid back ocean front beaches ever. Love the semi-tropic, natural environment. Also love all the space that DS/s have to run, roam, play without my having to worry too much. I live relatively close and have being going there ALL my life so I feel like I practically grew up there- well, half there and half Disney. The best of both worlds! (Definitely no Hannah Montana pun intended!):beach:
