No free clubs. The free clubs for others right now is a temporary promo and is part of the so-called free dining package promo they are having now for those who rent rooms at regular rates.
As to whether the
DVC golf club membership is a good idea, the answer is it depends. The DVC annual golf membership costs $50 plus tax (you buy it when you show up for your first tee time at one of the pro shops). In October, a round before 10 am costs $79 with the DVC discount card and a round after ten $59. So you need to play enough so that the amount saved on the discounted price exceeds the cost of the annual membership card. Usually in the past, two rounds would get you there but right now that is not true because the golf courses are themselves running much lower than usual prices between now and mid-Jan (another effect of the recession).A round at any of the four courses is currently $89 during the week and $99 on the weekend (last year those prices were more like $110 to $130 this time of year). Thus, if you play before 10 am at the $79 discounted price, you really need to do about four rounds to start to cover the cost of the DVC card. Two to three rounds if after ten.
