Go ahead and invite those parents before it is too late

I put off reading your post because I knew it would make me cry (and it did). We never got to take my parents on any of our WDW vacations but did take 3 memorable trips with them--Wisconsin Dells, Colorado/Rocky Mtns, & Tennessee/Smoky Mtns. The memories we have of those trips together are precious especially now as my mom died in 1998 and my dad in 2003.

I'm happy that you were able to share your love of WDW with your mother.

So sorry for your loss.

Donna

Donna: I'm sorry that you didn't get to share Disney w/ your parents. We have to take what we get sometimes & hold them dear in our hearts. I like to think that they are experiencing some things w/ us. My Dad died when I was 15 & there have been many times when I've prayed & asked God to help me communicate w/ him.

Next time you are in WDW maybe you could find a place each of your parents would've really enjoyed & find a few minutes to just sit on a bench and try to see it through their eyes. Have a little chat w/ each of them.

May you find peace & comfort in the memories you hold in your heart.

I'm sorry for your loss Donna.

Did you haul the wheelchair from BC to the parks? Wasn't it cumbersome and heavy compared to the lightweight version? We have an old wheelchair (from about 1980) that was my grandmother's after she had a stroke But I can't really even lift the thing to get it in a car. That's the great draw of a lightweight wheelchair- it would be something that is actually portable for us to use. I have to admit I'm thinking ahead, too, to having it at home when we could use it here, too.

Mom is small so she doesnt' need anything special for sizing. Last night she reminded us that she can walk some and plans to walk behind the wheelchair part of the time just using it to steady herself. I think we'll be pushing a whole lot more that she'll be walking though. :) She forgets just how big Disney is.

Yes, we did bring the wheelchair from BCV with us wherever we drove (we took the boat to MGM and walked to EPCOT and took it along then too). It folded up and my husband or BiL or DNephew put in the back of the van. It was a bit heavier than the portable one she owns at home, but it was certainly liftable and storable enough for our purposes. In the room we just folded it and put it in the corner when we didn't need it. It really worked well for us.

I'm trying to remember how this works. I think the resort takes an imprint of your credit card to prevent theft I would imagine, and all you do is return it when you leave and they give you a receipt for $0.00. I believe they even give you a card to write your name on it similar to how they do it at the parks. As I said, the only trouble with this is availability. You can't reserve them, just take your chances. As it happened, both times we did this, chairs we available. Both times were over spring break which is in April for us.

Good luck whatever you choose.

So much wisdom in your post.........We were fortunate to have my 90 year old aunt go to Disney with us 3 times......one of which was a small family reunion of about 13 people........My cousin at age 58 passed away unexpectadly and my aunt passed away the following February......We had lots of pictures and they are so precious to us and the memories!!!!! I kind of pushed the reunion and am so glad that I did. It is so sad to see the pics knowing that they aren't with us, yet somehow it is comforting.

DO IT------------- INVITE ALL YOUR LOVED ONES ----- YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT.

Buy the way my cousin was the untilmate Disney fan....her bathroom is all Mickey and Miney and my Aunt asbolutely loved WDW.....the first time she didn't really want to go....what is there to do there......well, she found that she was in awe of it all......didn't want to leave and we were there 10 days.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, OP as well as the many others. Thank you for sharing your hearts and stories with us. I wish I could reach out and give all of you a big :grouphug:.
