Does anyone know if the Universal restaurants and quick service locations in the hotels (and City Walk and the parks) can accommodate gluten free dining? If so, any particular restaurant you do or don't recommend? Also curious about adding a fridge to our room so we can keep a few gluten free items available for my daughter and me. Thank you!

both Mythos and Confisco's Grill in IOA have GF menus. Not sure about counter service.

I'm curios about this too. Going with a friend in June who was recently diagnosed with Gluten sensitivity and could definitely use suggestions!

The Kitchen Menu may have had Gluten Free marked; I know Mythos did.

have you looked thru damo's sticky on where to eat/menus?

something might be listed in that thread which could help you.

If you look at the sticky, you'll see all the items that are marked gluten free at the sit down restaurants. You can look through menus to see what might work at the other establishments.

I have looked at the sticky and see that some of the restaurants have specially marked GF (gluten free) items. I guess I was just wondering if anyone has any personal experiences with the gluten free menus? The counter service menus that I have checked don't have anything marked at all. Does that mean that there aren't gluten free items for counter service? My friend may be able to look at an item and know if it has gluten, but I don't (never would have assumed that foods like soy sauce and chicken broth contain gluten!).

I have to assume that someone, somewhere on this board has traveled gluten free to Universal and has some personal experience with this. Is this a bad place to be asking that question?

The servers will be able to tell you what is gluten free. We don't get a lot of questions here about gluten free for some reason but all of the eating establishments can tell you what is gluten free and what isn't.

It was surprisingly easy to deal with. Even at places where it wasn't marked on menus the servers were able to help. Both HP restaurants had gluten free options as well.

I too am interested to know if counter service can handle gluten free.

I tried to eat Gluten Free at IOA 2 years ago on a class trip and I was not able to get much food. A dry chicken breast was given to me in a place kind of near the Jurassic park area, nothing in the pizza place near the cartoon landing, and basically I just ate the protein bars I brought. Counter Service was a bust. But this was 2 years ago and I'm hoping they have changed since half the world seems to have gone gluten free as a trend since then.

Table Service had more things but with a group of kids to chaperone that was out for me.

I'm going to Cabana bay in a few weeks and will see what the GF ordering plan is there, I have Disney CS down pat.

This is my fear for counter service. Granted, it was 2 years ago but I hate to depend on it being available - I'd hate to stick her with just a chicken breast for lunch.:scared:

Between Mythos and Confisco's (sadly both sit down as we'd been hoping to do counter service for lunches), IOA seems fairly doable. We'll see what's available at US. Side note - does anyone know if butter beer is gluten free? I assume not, but it was previously a favorite of her's.

Thanks!

I follow this blog below and she confirmed Butter beer is gluten free.

I ate mostly at the hotel. We stayed club level at RPR and the staff in the lounge was amazing! I had yummy GF oatmeal cookies and an beautiful fruit plate one day.

I was so excited that butterbeer was GF. And it's awesome!

Mythos had GF options, but not much I actually wanted to eat. I ended up with tomato soup and it was just ok.

Uh oh...I could handle tomato soup but no way for my daughter. I am so used to having a villa and very accommodating restaurants and QS at Disney. I think we will definitely ask for a fridge and will pack some food for lunches. Can we take a small cooler into the Universal parks like Disney allows? Do any of the deluxe resorts offer a microwave in the rooms? Thanks everyone!

There is more than just tomato soup that is GF at Mythos. I count 10 things. You can take the same thing into Universal as WDW. The only rooms with microwaves are the larger suites but there is a microwave available somewhere on each property if you want to use it.
