Gifts for Teenage Guys

I've got two to shop for this year. Just starting to shop now.

Both are getting upgraded hoodies (they've been wearing Champion; they are getting Ibex and Patagonia)

Stocking stuffers come from thinkgeek.com

One has food allergies so he is getting the big Christmas selection of chocolates from VT Nut free.

We are doing Disney family trip as our big Xmas gift; so hoping to stay around $200 each for Xmas.
So far:
bluetooth earbuds for both
Vans & some jeans off JCrew for DS21
DS21 wants to go to TCU bowl game--that may be his graduation gift, he & DH
Thanks to OP for the crutchfield post--I forwarded that to grandparents. I know the boys would both like a car stereo that they can play their playlists through.
Any idea how much installation for a car stereo runs? And where we can get that done? (I know Best Buy does it but figure you gotta buy it there, and theirs aren't nearly as cheap!)
DS16 said he just wants $ & Xbox points!!

My husband has installed stereos and speakers into cars/trucks in the past himself. With my son's he plans to teach him how to DIY. He uses youtube when he has gotten stuck. He says the key is to buy the installation kit that Crutchfield recommends.

I agree about a guitar and lessons. DS has played the cello and guitar for about 4-5 years now. He started guitar in a community group program. Once he showed continued interest, he moved to private lessons. He loves his teacher who has been great about working with DS on songs he likes. Classic rock and bands using songs that DS picks. He's not super serious about but we figure it's a good hobby he'll always be able to have.

Thank you to those who have posted about monitor features. I've been looking and trying to figure out what to buy.

It's amazing how different boys can be. Some items mentioned are spot on with my boys, some are polar opposite. :goodvibes

Here is our list for our 2 boys:

Ds19
upgraded Samsung phone Galaxy S7
Otterbox case
Samsung fast charging pad
Season pass to our local Six Flags w/Dining Plan
some LLBean flannel pajama pants
3 shirts and down gloves from LLBean (had a great coupon!)
Bose earbuds
old movies he likes (Monte Python, etc.)
tire pressure gauge for his car

Ds16
BMX bike (not a surprise; he picked it out)
Season pass to our local Six Flags w/Dining Plan
LL Bean down gloves
2 sets of Skullcandy earbuds (he goes through them like water)
extra long charger cord for his phone (he always says the ones provided by manufacturer are too short)
2 Nike hoodies
Ralph Lauren baseball style cap
some LLBean flannel pajama pants
LLBean moccasin style slippers (I am considering returning these & getting new skater elbow & knee pads)
Vans sneakers

I also got them a portable Bluetooth speaker (JBL Charge 2+) because they keep "borrowing" mine but those will be from my parents and they'll reimburse me. They're always at a loss as to what to buy.

They really are not into clothes much and we're pretty flexible so if they decide to return something in order to get something else they like, that's fine by me.

A friend of mine's son was accepted early decision to a college out of state. One of the gifts she's giving him is a new wallet with the college logo on it. She did some research and found out what gas station was close to the school and which fast food places were close to the school and delivered. The new wallet is stuffed with gift cards for those places as well as a Barnes & Noble gift card since BN operates the campus bookstore. She figures this will be much appreciated since they're expecting him to work during college for spending money.

DawnM: Atleast you are being told What he wants lol
maybe to make it a little fun u can be crafty... I've placed money in Ice, got lots of singles taped end to end in a tissue box, did a clue game ( that one was my fav)
and even did origami once ( which I'd never do again )
Enjoy the holidays!

These are great ideas! I'm always looking for fun ways to give my nephews money. I once put a dollar bill in each balloon and they had to pop them all to get all their $. I've also given them gps coordinates in their card where they could find their money hidden (has to be somewhere others won't find it)

That's a great idea! My DS may go out of state and I'll try to remember to do that for him.

Gift cards such as these are good graduation gifts from friends and family. If you host a graduation breakfast or brunch for him you could have a money/gift card tree at it.

Great thread! We are going on a cruise for Christmas, so that's everyone's big gift. The boys (DS 16 and DS 14) gifts are mainly cruise related, so they'll receive them a few days early. Among things they are getting:
-REI duffle bags
- toiletry bags (they need to graduate from ziplock bags!) with travel products
- polo shirts (they need these for school as well)
- headphones (always headphones!)
-snacks and maybe a couple GCs

DS 14 has asked for a longer phone charging cord. I think he's more excited about that gift than any other.

I agree, teenage boys are all so different. My DS13 is totally into sports & is getting:

New skis
Golf clubs (from grandparents)
Lacrosse elbow pads
Nike running sneakers
Under Armour sweatshirts
UA ski shirts
Bluetooth speaker
Patriots lamp, fleece, & PJ's
Sockem boppers
Xbox controller (younger DS is getting the Xbox)

I'll also get him some filler gifts for under $5 & some basics like socks & underwear. He loves stupid filler gifts! Two year ago a giant whoopee cushion from the dollar store was one of his favorite gifts. Go figure!

I LOVE the ice idea! I do this with plastic bugs for preschoolers and they adore it. It would drive my son (15) NUTS! Last year he knew he was getting a new phone so I did a hunt with elaborate clues that took him over an hour. He was not amused.. but the adults were in hysterics. :)

The LLBean hanging travel organizer bag is a great gift too. I gave them to the kids one year filled with travel size stuff and they are used often.

Funny someone mentioned the charging cords. Both my kids have mentioned them over and over again. Teen son is also getting: a small fridge for the basement (for college later), $ for Spotify and PS subscriptions, new jacket, soccer stuff, a razor, AE clothes. Nothing very exciting. I miss surprises and buying toys. :(

I got my DS a long Apple charging cord last year for Christmas. It has been the most used of any gift and he has commented multiple times how much he uses and appreciates it!

We got DS14 a custom made Xbox controller. You can give a voucher for it or have them create it ahead of time and you order it. This is what we did - so it will not be a surprise.
