So our local hamburger/hotdog/ice cream joint just switched over to Gifford's ice cream.

They had just got rid of blue bell (which made me extremely happy) and went with another brand called Ashby's. I liked the Ashby's a lot. So I was a bit reluctant to try Gifford's.

But OMG I'm so glad I tried it. It is one of the best ice creams I've ever had. I'm so jealous of you people who live in Maine and have always had access to the creamy crack that is Gifford's ice cream.

I foresee my wallet getting skinnier and my waist getting chunkier this summer! If you have never tried it and you love ice cream, I highly suggest you trying Gifford's.

LOL. Never heard of Giffords so looked it up. Love their website, "available as far west as Illinois" So unless I want to make a 4,000 mile round trip, I guess I'll have to take your word for how good their ice cream is.
But yes, in general, small regional creameries have great ice cream.

Darn, I should have tried it. Went to a bakery today for lunch and they had a sign up that said they had Gifford's Ice Cream. I thought it was the Gifford's Ice Cream that used to be home-based in the Northern VA/Maryland area, but it seems there's a Maine version and that's probably what it was. I will have to give it a try next time.

I had the Campfire S'mores and the Fly Fishing Fudge and they were astounding!

Never heard of it. do they sell it in the grocery store or just restaurants?

I'm not sure. I looked at the website and they have ice cream stands in Maine. Here in NC I got it at a restaurant called Dairio.

A Dairio just opened near me in NC not terribly long ago and I've been avoiding it since it looked like meh. May have to try it if the ice cream is worth it.

Ice cream is like Pizza, if its done right its the best thing ever and if its done wrong its still pretty good

Oh my, Dairio is a local legend. You must live in the Kernersville area. You must go to Dairio. The original one opened in king back in the 40s.

I promise you when I say it's better than Bill and Leah's was.

I meant to quote you in that last message

The one that opened near us opened in Clemmons. We'll give it a try soon!

Ahhh, then you live right around the corner from me :D

If you ever ate at Chars, you'll love Dairio. The guy who owned Chars, his son owns Dairio.

The ice cream is different, but the food is very similar.

No idea what Chars is? When we want a killer burger we generally head to Five guys in Winston. If we hit Clemmons is either for Mario's Pizza or Panera. The food scene out by us is pretty slim LOL so the little drive to Clemmons or Winston is a necessity!

Lol, I completely understand.
I live right off stratford, 5 guys is awesome, you won't be getting that kind of burger at Dairio, but they do have a good burger.

I'm addicted to food. There's a little place in Clemons called "Time to eat" they had a pretty good burger the last time I was there.

Gifford's is amazing! Moose Tracks is the best! I'm a Mainer and where I went to college, there was a Gifford's stand within walking distance. It was dangerous. The stands close for the winter but one the first day they open, they offer fee cones

I disagree. I've had some pretty bad pizza and some pretty bad ice cream before. The bad so-called ice cream was probably "frozen dairy dessert."

Did you go to Husson? My DH is on faculty there, and you definitely can walk to Gifford's!

We all await the opening of Gifford's, which should be any day now, and not just for the free cone (although free ice cream doesn't stink!). Like crocuses and robins, Gifford's opening is a sign of spring and summer being right around the corner!

ETA: I just checked the website- the Bangor location opens on FRIDAY!!!
