I don't watch OLTL, but Ghost Whisperer has taken a big gamble that may not pay off. There has to be some reason...some way to save this...or they wouldn't be following this plotline. This has been in the works for some time or there wouldn't have been that scene at the end of last season's finale with Rick Payne noting that there were six people on a curb and only five shadows. I notice Christine Baranski wasn't back playing Jim's mother either, nor was Melinda's mother at Jim's funeral.

If they wanted the character of Jim to go away permanently, they should have let him die and go off into the light. Unless, they want to keep "Jim" but the actor who plays him wanted to depart the series.

Under that scenario, this storyline might make sense, albeit, not much.

And I do have to say the intimate scenes are a bit more icy then they were in the beginning and few and far between.
I noticed that too.
For a young married couple, really in love and wanting a child, they do seem to have some icyness between them

::yes::
It's obviously been part of the 'master plan' for some time, not something they just thought of recently.
There are a couple of possibilities I can see for the way things are going:
  • the actor playing Jim wants out
  • someone else wanted the actor playing Jim out
  • the writers/producers honestly think the plotline is good and will add to the show
  • the writers/producers are 'blinded' by the path they started down and think it's a great plotline
  • the writers/producers know the plotline is really lame, but are trying to 'sell' it to the viewers
There are a couple of things I've been thinking about the last episode. One is the 'strangeness' of some of the dialog - especially some of the dialog with Jim's brother at the water:
The brother said Jim needs to cross over now, or he implies it will be too late or something bad will happen. Why would it be too late? Jim just died, but in the past, Mel has helped ghosts cross over who were dead for a long time. So what's different about Jim?
The brother said he will be allowed to change out of his tux when he brings Jim over. Why? What prevented him from changing before if he wanted to?
The whole thing with showing their dad on the other side and Jim can see him if he crosses over seems very strange. Is it incentive to cross over or a trick to get him to cross over?

All of it could be meaningful (or just bad writing).
My personal guess is that the writers know they have jumped the shark. To me, they seem to be trying too hard to sell it ("if you stick with us, you'll be very pleased." "romantic". etc). I feel like I'm being sold something.

I wondered about that "dad" thing too, I mean hey the brother was here why not dad?:confused3

the whole thing makes me nuts :dance3: its like "When Good Shows Go Bad" any outcome from this point on would make me wonder about the future of this show :sad2:

Jim's brother has been dead for quite some time so why the rush for them to cross over RIGHT NOW?

I've seen speculation that since JLH got engaged she doesn't want to kiss David any more, I don't think that would change with a different actor, still wouldn't be any kissing, at least on the mouth.

Where was Melinda's mom for the funeral? At least they could have explained her absence instead of not even mentioning her.

I'll give it a few more episodes and see where they go with it, but I'm not a happy watcher!

Yep, I was the nanny for the twins that played Al Holden when he was a baby so I've always had a special connection to that story line. When they changed him into Michael I stopped watching.

So what did you think about them jumping around & dancing at the funeral home? Did you turn to your loved one and say "You'd better not do that at my funeral" or "Go ahead & celebrate my life like that".

Um, probably a bit of both. Maybe a nice funeral, no gushing tears though. I want great stories of all my antics in life. Then I want a party with music, food, etc. A real celebration of life.

But yeah, Jim's funeral was weird. And why was Delia sitting with Melinda and Jim's mom was across the aisle?

someone else wanted the actor playing Jim out

the writers/producers know the plotline is really lame, but are trying to 'sell' it to the viewers

I think it's one of these two. I really feels like a hard sell.

I thought she crossed his brother over. I could be mistaken since I think I missed some of the first episode. Again, weird. And how come his dad stayed in the shadows, why didn't he come and talk to his son to convince him to cross over.

Another observation:
I am beginning to wonder if they are changing writers every season. First we had the evil fedora hat guy, that story peetered out.
Then it was the evil brother, again poof with no explanation.
The dad who's not the dad. Then the real dad who is dead helps "save" Melinda. Then no mention of him again. And now mom has vanished.

It's got bad soap opera written all over it. No one pays attention to history and they try to ignore story lines because the new writers have their own agenda.

me and my mom were talking about this last night...all the story lines that get build up big on this show and then BAM there done, over, kaput!

I'm still thinking that this latest BAM just sank this ship into shark infested waters :sad2:

That part was confusing. I couldn't figure out if the brother meant he had been waiting for Jim to cross over with him (and had not crossed over himself before) or whether the brother had come back for Jim.

But, that still leaves the question of why it's urgent for Jim to cross over now
And, why the dad was first mentioned ("He's waiting for you on the other side. You'll see him when you cross over") and then later shown in the shadows.
Also, I thought the brother said that "dad said" he could change out of the tuxedo when Jim crosses over? What's with that??????? Why change or not change and what does dad have to do with it.

hmmm, backtracking or part of the bigger picture?

Glad to know David Conrad is seeing what people are saying and it validates the need for his character. Maybe he will either get a good story line out of the deal or if he opts to leave someone with a good character will pick him up.

But I still say if Jim is Sam and Sam is Jim, I'm not watching.

I just still dont like it! So a lady in your town, the love of her life dies and just mere weeks later she starts dating someone else??? if they didnt think she was crazy they will now :sad2:

I would be thinking hmmmm I wonder if that crazy lady that talks to herself killed her husband so she could hook up with this guy! ;)

I dont want to see "the relationship grow" are we always gonna see Jim or will we just start seeing Sam? and what about Sam no family, friends, wife, girlfriend in past or present for that matter

I wonder if Melinda's evil brother & father got a hold of Jim's brother before he crossed over & now he's trying to get Jim. Maybe the "father" waiting for him isn't his but the evil guy.

Maybe MOST of the time we will be seeing Jim so that's why they think we will like it. Because it will be like we are seeing Jim and Melinda from the beginning>:confused3

not a clue, I was thinking of a time travel thing. Like seeing them from the real beginning. :confused3

Of course if it's that then they really did get a writer from Quantum Leap.

It looks like it might be even worse than I thought.
I saw a commercial for it where the 'body' is Sam, but then you see with her eyes and it's Jim.
Melinda is inside and Sam/Jim is outside. Delia says, "Do you know how lucky you are? You are going to get a second chance with your one true love. Now, go." And, she practically pushes Melinda out the door to go out with the guy.

That is apparently the "powerful scene between Delia (Camryn Manheim) and Melinda," where the TV Guide article says "the crew was moved to tears."
 :scared: :crazy2:

Apparently her friends think there is no problem with dating a dead body that her DH's spirit just snuck into.:teleport:

I found this posted by the producers of GW concerning the upcoming episodes

There's a place at the bottom to post a comment... I already left one and I'm sure it's not the kind they are hoping to get:rotfl:

When you read the article Debbie Jean linked to, I don't think I've ever seen so many positive adjectives used in any self promotion before. There were a couple of times "the crew was moved to tears." Also did you see how many times the mentioned how wonderful a situation was, or how beautiful someone was... I think they know they've jumped the shark and are now trying to resell the show. Like maybe if we read how wonderful & incredible things are, we'd start to believe it. :sad2:
