GF Pirate Cruise

Do they allow parents to go on the Pirate Cruise? If so, has anyone been on it and what's your opinion?

It was my understanding that only children are allowed on the Pirate Cruise, parents have to stay behind. . . .Ages 3 - 10.

Kid's only. They do have plenty of CM's along. My DD did it last month and she really had a blast. They will be ok, it is a little scarey sending them off but they hve a great time.

I have posted this before but I'll say it again, the Pirate Cruise was the one thing in our plans that I was most unsure about. My kids were unsure too but we headed for the marina that morning with an open mind and I must say it turned out to be their favorite thing of the whole week! Captain Drew and staff are wonderful with the kids, young ones and the older ones. Both my kids buddied up with others on the cruise. It is a very unique experience for kids.... sorry parents can't go, they are required to do something fun or relaxing during those two hours!

Can you please tell me how far in advance you can book this?
Is it only on certain days for one time a day?

I believe it is 120 days out. At the time we went in winter it was only offered Mon. and Thurs. You should try to call on the exact 120 day mark as it is becoming very popular. Go to the home page here on the DIS and there should be a link to more detailed info.

Our daughter, then 7 years old, did the pirate cruise last summer. We made the reservations about 60 days in advance, and I believe that the cruise is held only on certain days. Parents are not allowed, and I believe the cruise runs about 60-90 minutes.

Let me say-you are currently reading e-mail from one of the most paranoid mothers in the world, and I am very glad I let my daughter go. There were enough cast members along to make me feel comfortable, the children had on life jackets, and the cast members were friendly. This was one of my daughter's favorite things on our last Disney vacation.

One last thought-if the pirate cruise is booked up-there are other children's activities that Disney offers (tea parties, etc) that your children might like. Also, consider that there might be cancellations on the pirate cruise-maybe there is a waiting list).

They do get a bag of "treasure" to keep, it is stuff like plastic rings, some "gold" coins, bead necklaces, I don't remember what else, my kids are sleeping, I will ask them in the AM.

Just thought I'd post a link to my photo albums -- I have photo albums for all three of the GF's children's activities: Pirates Cruise, Wonderland Tea Party, and Grand Adventures In Cooking Class. Janet2k's On-Line Photo Albums (just look for the appropriate albums).

My daughter has done all three of those activities many times. She's loves 'em. Yo-ho! Yo-ho! A pirate's life for me! Of course if I were a few years younger, I'd get to enjoy them, too. *Sigh*

My kids LOVED the pirate cruise. It was kind of funny because the cast members on the boat were so very nice but they all thought my daughter was under three. She was close to 3 1/2 when she "sailed" but she is so tiny. Each one knelt down in front of her and said "Hi sweetie, how old are you?" By the 4th time she just sighed really loudly and said "I'm 3, I'm 3, I'm 3!!!" I really thought they were going to ask for proof, but I know they have to be very careful. My son said they did take extra care with the younger ones while "out at sea".

What great pictures, my DD enjoyed seeing them. Her first pirates cruise will be Sept 2nd and she can't wait, seeing the pictures made her even more excited!

I know how you feel my DD is also very tiny, now that she is nine everyone thinks she is 5.

For those of you with "young" looking kids, I have the exact opposite problem. My kids are tall. Amazons, really (I just bought size 17 sneakers for my teenaged son the other day, yikes!). One of our Disneyland trips was to celebrate my daughter turning three years old. Well, the day before her third birthday, we got the third degree by a Cast Member as we were entering the theme park. He didn't believe that she was two, he thought she was almost five. I held my tongue but almost said, "Would you care to guess how old her big brother is?!" Needless to say, we got into the park without having to produce a ticket for her (since children under three are free). But it was a little unsettling. What's a mother to do?!
