When you buy a resale does Disney assign you a guide, or do you just call and ask for one?

They'll assign you a guide, although if you've heard about a particularly good one from a friend you can ask for that person by name. I'd suggest that you start with the assigned guide. If the chemistry is wrong (rare), then post something on this board and you'll be FLOODED with recommendations.

Actually our guide, Nick Tamberrino, has continued to help us long after the sale was closed.

If you've had any contact with DVC at all, you already have a guide in all likelyhood.

Dean makes a great point. We called DVC back in April regarding joining. But, we really wanted BWV and decided to buy from the resale market instead. When we closed, the same DVC agent sent us our welcome kit.

I already have a guide, and my re-sale purchase has not even closed yet.

She called me today, and gave me her name and number.

I emailed some questions, and she called me offering to send me the very information I asked about.
She told me that she would be my guide, and that I should call her after my re-sale closes, to see if I am in the system.

I didn't put my phone number in the email. I was trying to force an email response, but it seems that most of the world likes the phone better.
They must keep records for a very long time, because I am sure it has been at least 3 (maybe 4) years since the last time I was considering purchasing a DVC membership directly from Disney.

My guide is Michelle McAllistor (I am not certain I have the correct spelling). This is not the same person who contacted me several years ago, so I don't think that they necessarily assign the same guide.
She seemed really good on the phone.
Does anyone else have any experience with her?

I bet your previous guide is no longer in that capacity and you were assigned a new one. This happens to members from time to time.

DVC uses the guides for more than just sales. They are used in "arbitration", for lack of a better word, when disputes arise. The are used for education of new members and even existing members. I use them for information also though I think they frequently learn more from me than I do from them.

if we already have a guide from a direct purchase through Disney will he be the same one assigned now that we have closed on a resale (not through Disney)?

I heard from our guide once our papers closed and haven't heard from him since.

The guide we had when we first toured OWK back in '97 was the reason we didn't buy. Very pushy and rude when we said we wanted time to think about it. And wouldn't you know it -- his name was on our "Welcome" packet! I had really hoped they wouldn't keep records that long, or if they did, us moving to a different state would confuse the issue. Even with DVC...you can run but you can't hide!!!

If the guide is still there,it will be the same. You will only have one. The only way you might get two would be if the listings were under totally different names, say one in a husband's and the other in a wife's.

She's been my guide since 95... Talked to her first then. I asked for another information pack in 99. Ended up buying OKW resale. Since then I've done two add ons using Michelle. She's always been real helpful and never made me feel bad about going resale on the first purchase. I just did a Saratoga add on and had some banking issues since my use year is december and I was getting 2003 points... She got me all straight and made sure the points were banked into 2004 :D
