Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

Checking in:
This has been an interesting week. I've been getting progressively better. I even had a day where I almost felt like myself. Most days, though, I still have this kind of dull headache and feel not quite dizzy but a little light. The stitches are getting really itchy.

Food has been interesting. I have tested a few different things, including pizza, coffee and doritoes (I kind of lost it. I got really hungry after a few weeks of jello, toast and soup :) ) I've read that some people have trouble eating certain foods after their gallbladder is removed, but so far I haven't have any problems.

I've been trying to increase my exercise as well. I did my walking video Monday and Tuesday (a little modified), but that left me tired the rest of the day. So on Wednesday I did some stretching and strength moves (minus core and weights) and felt much better. It's been warm enough to get in some outside walks as well. This felt much better for now.

My plan for Easter tomorrow is to go out to eat, probably Olive Garden. They have some new menu items that seem like they will work. I'm 90% sure they're open.

Goals for the week include continuing to develop a high fiber low fat diet. I've been having salads with chicken breast at work for lunch. I'm going to get back into have smoothies for breakfast now that it's getting warmer. I still have a few weeks to go before I can start back up with weights and core exercises, but will continue to build on the strength and aerobics as tolerated.

I did finally weigh myself and I'm down some more weight for a total of about 10 pounds since we started. (Actually, if we go back to the January, it's closer to 20..) It looks like I've kind of deflated, so I think my gallbladder was responsible for a lot of inflammation that has gone away.

This has gotten a lot longer than I planned.. But I still have a closing thought here. I'm totally amazed at how my body has been recovering over the past few weeks. It's like I can feel it healing itself daily. I think losing weight is kind of similar to this. I think our bodies are craving things like activity and healthy food. If we give it to ourselves, it can heal and become strong and healthy. I've gained a sense of responsibility for myself. I've made my choices. Nobody's done it to me. I've chosen. And I continue to have the power to make those choices. Do I watch TV or do I go for a walk? Do I eat something fried or baked? Do I go to bed early or late? Do I get stressed or do I find ways to chill? I'm not going to be perfect, but if my choices are better, I believe I'll get better...

Hiya, I'm new to DIS and come across WISH after searching for weight loss planning for disney vacations. I also go in August and am in desperate need to lose weight, I'm on weight watchers here in the UK, can I join this challenge/group/support network?

Welcome! (Sorry it took so long..) Looking forward to your check in and hearing how you're doing..

Oh an my gym closed while we were away so now I need a new one!! Fast!! I wish we had room here for our own machine!

Good luck finding a new gym..

Given how it's started, we will refer to this as the weekend of which we never speak....

Pikester - Thinking of you and hoping your outdoor running is going well

MaggieMouse - How is your "restart" doing?

WAHkoMom - Congrats on signing up for a 5k. How's the training going?

mkmomto2 - Hope your routine is going well and you've found a good balance with school.

nadira36 - Hope things are well with you. Have the doctors found anything helpful yet?

Thanks for checking in! I have an exercise stress test on Monday afternoon (seriously, Easter Monday). I still haven't seen the cardiologist, and am feeling rather annoyed, not a single Dr has even lifted a stethoscope to listen to my heart - they're just plopping me onto a treadmill after telling me to do nothing for the last several weeks.

Beyond that, I have good days and bad days. Yesterday was a bad day, I barely moved all day and was still wiped by the end of it. Today was a good day - washed the walls, stepped outside for a few minutes in the AM, took the dog for a run (he ran, I ambled), but boy am I wiped out now!

I'm still focusing on posture and proper movements. I'm still doing some yoga and attempting the plank challenge. I'm actually really happy with what I look like right now - but the real test is coming up in the next week or so, swimming starts - I have to see if I fit into any of the swim suits I own. I don't want to buy a new swim suit right now, not until I'm closer to where I want my shape to be.

Checking in a couple of days late - - -

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter!!

Other than drinking too much yesterday, my food intake wasn't too bad. I kept my portions small and stayed away from the appetizers whenever I could.

I did start picking at the kids' Easter candy today, so I've got to be mindful of that.

Last week I worked out 5 days and I've gotten my 5K walk/jog time down to 50 min 30 secs (about 2 1/2 minutes lower than last week). I was also down almost 2 pounds on the scale!

All in all a good week, so I'm keeping my goals the same for this week.

So happy the sun is shining today - I think I'll go get some vitamin D now! :cool1:

I'm still struggling but slowly getting back on track. This week I'm just working on getting my water in! I'm good with veggies but next week I'll work on getting my carbs under control! Thanks for asking!

Good morning! This week is so kicking my butt. :( Not only was it Easter but the kids and I are on school vacation so my routine is all shot. I've gained back 1.8lbs from what I weighed last Friday but I figure considering all that I have eaten that isn't too bad. Still walking and running but have moved the runs to in the evening and outside. I've got 2 weeks and 2 days until I run my first 5K.

How are you all doing?

Good luck in your first 5K!! This week has been rough for me too and my body is letting me know. Hoping to somehow squeeze a walk in today but it's doubtful. If not, I will get up early tomorrow and do a run + a walk at lunch.

Food wise I'm slowly getting back on track with water and veggies. I'm also working on getting processed sugar out of my system because it's wreaking havoc!!

Well, I had my cardiologist appt on Monday - it didn't go well. Well, actually in the sense of my heart being fine, it went well. But I was supposed to fast for 4 hours prior to the test - then I was expected to exercise. :scared1: THAT did not go well. They increased the speed once, incline once, then I almost passed out. I cannot go more than 2 hours without eating without being severely affected. I tried to tell them before the test started, but they said it was to make sure ppl didn't get a stitch in their side. :confused3 No stitch in my side, but the low blood sugar caused even more problems. With a stitch in my side I could have at least kept going.

They didn't get enough of a reading to actually know if my heart is fine or not, but the Dr thinks that it's all related to my thyroid and thus will get better on it's own soon. Though he is sending me for an u/s just to be sure.

In other news, I ate half a cheesecake (it was soooo good though) on Easter. But have been working out and seeing results! My middle is certainly smaller than it had been. My pants are getting a little loose even! :woohoo: So all things considered I think things are looking up for me here.

The good- Ive been sticking with workouts.

The bad- Easter

The ugly- leftover Easter candy and rice pie ughhhhh

I give you credit for stepping on the scale. Non afraid an need a few good days before I will. Depressing.

My water intake is also not where I had it before Easter and vacay.

I've completed 5k runner but still cannot run the 5k wo stopping once or twice. My body doesn't feel as strong as it did when my diet was under control, but it could be my guilt/head that is getting in the way.

Also, started my new gym. Equipment is nicer but- it's a lot busier at 5 am than my other practically empty gym. I prefer quiet, but will get used to it. I have a "free" consult with a trainer today- should be interesting. I insisted on an appointment with a woman an felt like such a nerd ha.

Ok so I had the "free" training appointment which I KNOW is a sales pitch for trainers......but it made me so nervous that running is not enough and I feel overwhelmed of what else to do. As much as I'd love to have a trainer I cannot justify it. Also, of course I had to step in the scale which I've been avoiding. I'm up a few ladies!!! Blah day.

I will give a more detailed check in tomorrow, but just wanted to say add me to the "This week has kicked my but" list. Not good...

I've been bad and not checked in the last couple of weeks! It seems like time is flying by - I thought I had missed a week and I think I missed 3. It only felt like a week!

My losses were 0, the next week .6, the next week .6, and then came easter. My year of See's candy deprivation kicked in and I went to town on several large filled eggs that my sister in law put out. I knew weigh in Thursday was going to be terrible and hubby even said don't go. But I don't want to fall down that slippery slope so I went to face the music. Much to my SHOCK, I lost 3.8 pounds!! I think all of the weight I had from the last 3 weeks sort of came off at once.

So my 4 week average is 1.2 pounds/week, which I'm totally happy with. This is the 4th month in a row where I've not lost, lost a little, lost a little, and then lost a ton in a 4 week pattern. I just need to remember that when I weigh in on those 'little' weeks.

First 5 k run is Sunday morning, so that is exciting and a little scary, LOL. My goal is to do it in under 40 minutes.

My 5k was at 48 min. Still can't run the whole darn thing!!

Oh my goodness. I haven't posted an update in 4 weeks. I can't believe it. Time seems to be spinning out of control....anyways, I've lost 1 pound in 4 weeks. At this rate, it will take me about two years to meet my target weight. :rotfl:

Checking in: This week I was so hungry. Like a bottomless pit. And it wasn't for healthy foods either. I think it was due to three factors that came together into the "perfect storm." (1) My body's trying to heal after the surgery; (2) I can eat a lot of the foods now that caused problems before. I didn't make the connection before, but I think my gallbladder's been causing problems for a while; and (3) We had a 75 degree day (F) on Easter and then it dumped back down into the 40s. That always gives me the munchies. I think it's psychological. Add to this I didn't exercise at all. I gain some weight back, but not as much as I lost. So I'm still 7 pounds down total. And my BMI is just in overweight instead of obese. So at least I can try and get things back under control before I completely lose it.

So for my goals this week I'm going to go back to what I started with. Start the day with a healthy breakfast and exercise. I'll have to start light because I still have a weight restriction for two more weeks, but I feel like I need to get my but in gear again. I'll try for 30 minutes, but will call it if I have problems. Wish me luck...

Hi all. I asked to join a few weeks ago and then life got busy and I haven't been able to keep up. I just found out that I'm gluten intolerant so that's been a mega adjustment the last few weeks. I've been hitting the gym, on average only 2 days a week because April has just been freakishly busy. As a result of all of the above, I haven't lost any weight, I'm just holding steady at my current weight. That's frustrating but better than a gain, I suppose. :) I hope to be more active this next month! Here and at the gym!
