Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

I feel out of the loop. I've been MIA completely from the boards except for reading/skimming here an have been caught up in a budget fight in my towns school system. It's not looking promising and the town meetings are over next week when lo and behold it's school vacation time and people, including us, will be away. I wish we were squeezing in a Disney trip- of only we were a little closer, but instead we are driving down to a relative in NC followed by a couple days at Myrtle Beach (SO CLOSE, yet so farrr). I'm excited but stressed about packing. All summer clothes are up in the attic and I don't even know if we will need summer clothes or if it will be jeans weather. I also don't know what size my current summer wardrobe is.

Well, I weighed myself this morning. I'm down 20 lbs since the end of January. To say I'm nervous about going away next week is an understatement.

Why no exclamation points after "down 20 pounds"???? That is fantastic!!! Congratulations! :cheer2:

I'm afraid this week has been difficult to keep up with. Also, not the best diet wise, unless eating Marshmallow double chocolate chunk cherry muffins is actually good for you. ;)

But I have been getting more exercise in day to day life and am on day 9 of the 30 day plank challenge. So it's something I'm happy about. And I think my hearts improving! I have a Dr appt tomorrow, so hopefully I get good news.

Glad to see you're keeping your sense of humor - - - that is so important, I think!

Planks are HARD, aren't they?? They are part of my routine, too, and I drip with sweat when I do the third set - AWESOME!

Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow :flower3:

I am here! And I'd love to join in on the fun!

I am already well on my way, as I have been on this journey for almost a year, but I have so much I'd like to accomplish yet.

I do not have any weight goals, but I do have size goals I'd like to reach...

Here's my story - if anyone is interested in reading it so far, I also have progress pictures posted. :)

(I couldn't post the link to your entry because this is only my 2nd post.)

Have a great healthy day everyone! :)

D~

Thank you so much for sharing your story! Keep up the great work! I am stuck in a rut and reading it has motivated me to start my journey TODAY!
I know it's late in the game, but better late than never (to join in here). I can relate to so many posts on this thread. Our 1st WDW trip is 119 days away! Woohoo!

A little about me:
I'm 34 (birthday last Friday), 5ft, and very overweight (100lbs.+). My poor body! I have a 14 year old daughter and a 12 year old son whom I love dearly. I've been married to the love of my life for 15 years (we've known each other for 20 years). I've had weight issues since I was about 10 years old. Thank goodness for my hubby who has been very loving and patient with me all these years. I've lost and gained weight through the years. I don't think I'll ever be 105 lbs. but I want to feel and look good. My SIL started a competition on Jan. 1, 2014 about whoever loses the most weight % wise will win a pot of $1,750 on June 20th. I joined, thinking about taking all that extra money I will win (fingers crossed) to our Disney trip in August. Here we are in April and I haven't done a thing to win. As far as I know, my other relatives who joined haven't done much either. I have the most weight to lose, so I'm thinking I have the upper hand if I get started already. I haven't gained weight since our January weigh in, which was humiliating because I am the heaviest of all the bunch, and that is a plus. So here I go again. Starting Slim in 6, again, and adding more veggies, cutting out sweets and junk food, and sticking to it this time. I know that even if I don't end up winning the competition, I will end up winning better health, both mentally and physically!

I'm in! I would love to lose 15 pounds, but mostly I just want my shorts from last year to fit and look decent! I started back to spin class this week, Mon/Wed/Fri at 5:30 am and I am feeling it! Now to get the Dr. Pepper under control and I will be on track. :rotfl2:

Good luck to everyone on their goals!

What is it with Dr. Pepper! LOL! Recovering addict checking in here.:drinking1
My resolution this year was to quit Dr. Pepper. So far, so go. Not a drop of soda since December 31, 2013, 11:59 pm. :rotfl: Thankfully, it hasn"t been as tough as I expected it to be. Now I just need to start working out and eating smaller and healthier meals.

I think it helps to just decide and do it. Good luck to you on your journey as well.

:)Thanks! Well the Dr didn't go quite the way I expected it - but we have a new plan and a new follow-up appt. Next time will be better. But there was some good news.

B/c I can't have any of the fun drinks, DH went out and bought me several new teavana teas today :goodvibes which my children promptly drank :rotfl2: I've been told they were very good.

More planks today - man these are getting hard! But some upper body strength would be good for me (my arms feel it more than the rest of me). Also went out flying kites today - lots of running (shhh don't tell the Dr), and laughing, and almost had to climb a tree :lmao: Met 4 new families b/c of that little snafu.

Played some tag at the playground yesterday. Tomorrow's upper body workout will be brought to me by the letters dirt and compost, and the number seeds. (followed- by the cleaning up of the mess that will surely ensue).

I know that even if I don't end up winning the competition, I will end up winning better health, both mentally and physically!

That's a great attitude! Way to go for starting!

Thank you! I've been making some bad eating choices and need to get back in track. I have stayed consistent with 3+ workouts a week though.

What a timely quote that was. Had my first run outside yesterday and let's just say it didn't go how I imagined it would. I'm up to 35 minutes on the treadmill but could only hack 15 at the high school track. Yikes! I've got 4 weeks till my first 5K so I'll be practicing more outside to work on that time.

Have a great day everyone!

Welcome! I think you're right to focus more on the journey than the reward. Whenever I've tried that in the past I just psych myself out for some reason.

Have a great day everyone!

Don't get discouraged. It probably took just as much if not more effort to do those 15 minutes than the 35 inside. It'll make you that much stronger. Our bodies adapt so it's good to give it a new challenge :thumbsup2

I made it!!! Today is the last day of my blood sugar detox!!!! I have lost 3 inches off my hips and 3 inches off my waste in 10 days!!!! I am thinking about taking tomorrow off but I don't know. I don't think I can go back to eating like I was.

Congrats :thumbsup2 Good luck keeping it up!

Great job on the planks! Hope your Drs visit went well...

I think this is my first time checking in after my initial post...I knew I'd be the one slacker hanging out over here.

I've been keeping track of my exercise and food with myfitnesspal, and it's been great for keeping me accountable. I keep all the food logged...even the two trips to Dairy Queen. Look, a girl's gotta have the confetti cake blizzard.

Last week was my first full week of running in preparation for the PHM 2015. On Day 4 I ran a 8:46 mile and I still can't figure out how, lol. That's two minutes faster than my normal time. I'm guessing it was a freak occurrence. Maybe my timer messed up?? I don't know.

Today it was pouring down rain, so after I dropped the kids off I skipped the running track and came home to Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred Level 1. That workout usually kicks my butt, but today I was able to hang with it.

I'm not keeping track of my weight right now b/c I don't have a scale, but in terms of my endurance (which is what matters most to me right now) I see a huge improvement in just one week.

I'm feeling better, I'm sleeping better, and I have more energy.

Also, if anyone is looking for a good running shoe, I highly recommend the New Balance 890v4. They're the most amazing shoes I've ever put on my feet.

Thanks for checking in! I'm glad you're feeling better..

Glad you are feeling better. I had emergency gall bladder surgery last May and it really took a good month for me to get back to my normal self. Take it easy and work your way back up!

Thanks! I have run into so many people living sans gallbladder after this. Friends, co-workers.. even my mother-in-law.. who knew?

20 lbs! Awesome! You're trip will be fine; just relax and think healthy rather than deprivation..

Checking in...

I had my follow up visit with the surgical clinic. Everything seems to be normal. Normal is good. :thumbsup2 So I'm cleared for any activity that I feel comfortable doing with the exception of lifting.. or anything that works my abdominal muscles. There's still a hernia risk for another 2-4 weeks.

I went to work last week, so did some walking and that activity associated with that. One day the elevator was out, so I had to go down 6 flights of stairs. Luckily, it was fixed before I had to do the trek up.. I've been gradually adding fruits and vegetables to my bland diet. I've come to the conclusion that my DH has no clue about diet and nutrition. One morning he offered my eggs, a bagel with butter and sausage. I suppose in his defense he has one of those metabolisms where he really doesn't worry about it much.

I'm enjoying a few moments to myself this morning. The kids are at grandmas and the DH is fishing. It's nice after being taken care of for weeks to just have some space. I did my march video this morning. Very modified, but I did it. Feels good.

My goals this week are to continue the march workout as I can and to eat "healthy," which for me means to increase fiber and think low-fat. I've been taking a probiotic which I think is helping. The nurse told me to expect the catch on my right side to peak at about 3 weeks due to scar tissue, so I'll do what I can.

I'm so thankful for this thread. It's keeping me focused on this journey and not just giving up and lying on the couch. Right now there I times when I feel like it would be so easy to do. But this surgery has really been a wake up call for the need to change some of the choices I've made regarding my own health. It's so easy to take care of everyone else and let your own slide. Again, thanks to you all!

HOORAY FOR NICE WEATHER!!!

I haven't moved my activity outside yet, because my allergies are bothering me, but I am working in the yard today - cleaning up and raking.

I went out with two college friends last night and they were very supportive of my workout routine and we discussed road races - they both have run 5Ks, and one has run 10Ks and a half-marathon. I said "I'm going to sign up for a 5K" and then I realized I've been saying "I'm going to" for too long and I NEED to actually find a race and register. Well, this morning I received an email from the local YMCA, informing me of an upcoming 5K a couple of towns over!! That's a sign, right?? I was about to register for it, but it falls on my father-in-law's birthday. I searched for another one locally and found one in my town, the day before.

So, I am very proud to announce that I am officially registered for the 14th Annual Foxboro Against Diabetes 5K Run/Walk on May 31st!!

Hiya, I'm new to DIS and come across WISH after searching for weight loss planning for disney vacations. I also go in August and am in desperate need to lose weight, I'm on weight watchers here in the UK, can I join this challenge/group/support network?
