Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Happy Friday all, so amazed I will have the whole weekend off!:cool1:

Cindy - Jorge has a vegetarian menu available and there is actually a section of the book that gives an entire week of menus for like 6 various eaters...theres one for veggies, one for carb lovers, sweet lovers, meat lovers, etc etc...so Im sure you could find a way to make it work for you! Like MM it is just very inspirational and informative to read too...since it seems we are all going with "whatever works" for us these days, it never hurts to get as much information as possible! Im so excited that you are losing and enjoyinng your new program...hopefully adding in some dairy wont slow it down!

Lisa - lol, I have a hard time with cooked food in the early morning too...Im sure my hours and schedule dont help with my eating...I think I eat too much later in the day and not enough earlier...but Im not up very early, so usually dont eat much until around noon! Jorge actually says we should eat most of our carbs before 3pm! OMg, I am just STARTING to eat around that time!

Tell me about the almond milk...I see we finally have it available in my stores here...hows the taste? I read the label and thought hmmmm can I use this on cereal? Does it taste watery like skim milk? Does they whey protein taste any better mixed with the almond milk instead of with plain water? :teacher: this is Lisa, patiently attempting to keep Robin informed of all things "different" and usually "yukky" !!

Hi Kath - its yuk outside here today too...rainy, dreary and cool...luckily there are lots of Civil war sites, etc here to visit so Joe and Dave have the horses resting for the trip back tomorrow and are out being tourists! We are looking forward to a super nice weekend though, so hopefulyy some of it will make its way to you.

I struggle with what to do with my face too...I have always been a tanner...like bake in the sun for hours, and always got super dark tan and never had any skin issues....about 5 years ago, I noticed broken capillaries in my cheeks and a flush of red across my upper chest and the doc told me it was rosacea! Now everything I read about rosacea shows acne, break outs, etc and I have none of that at all...just this annoying redness that it seems like no type of creams or anything will reduce or minimize in any way...makes me crazy, since now if I do get out in the sun or too warm, my whole face and chest turn beet red! I never burned before in my life, always tanned...anybody know anything about this? I have recently tried green tea cream, as rosacea sites swear it works so well...but I guess maybe I dont actually have rosacea as none of the topical stuff the dermatogoist gave me ever worked either... I know you can have the broken capillaries lasered or something like that, but Im sure I cant afford that and my insurance wont cover it!

Thank you for reminding me of the sugars in the fruit, Lisa. I absolutely LOVE pink grapefruit, and need to remind myself that even though it's a "sour" fruit, it still contains more sugars in it than I'm realizing. I don't use a whole carrot or beet in the juicing. In a 16 oz glass of juice, I use 1/2 a carrot and 1/2 a beet. I also add some ginger root to it. I am going to get my juice book out this weekend and see what I can come up with.
I have noticed that since I've been using Truvia, my stomach has been acting up. If I eat something other than salads, my stomach gets extremely nauseated. Not sure what is going on. I am going to lay off the Truvia and see if it remedies itself somewhat. Even drinking a ton of water doesn't help. Maybe my body is just rejecting no good foods LOL. I tried to eat a burger the other day (no bun) and about 1/2 hour later, almost threw up. I am going to document my meals for a week and see if I can figure it out.
Later everyone!!

Guys - Question...isn't the sugar in fruit different than real sugar??? I'm eating a ton of fruit and losing weight. :confused3

That's a good question. I'd think fruit sugars are better than regular sugar. Now I'm confused too. :confused3

I think I'm going to order Jorge's Belly fat cure also. I am still losing inches, but in my legs. That doesn't make sense to me since I'm not really exercising my legs much because of my knee. I do the swimming, but that's a whole body workout. My belly isn't cooperating at all!!
I took a quick look on LCF and the tread on there about Jorge is very promising. I just went on his site and downloaded the foods and such.

I am going to order the beginner callanetics too. So many people swear by it and it deals with deep muscle conditioning.

I'm going to try that one!!! I have to buy some flaxseed. What brand low carb protein powder is it whey? I want to stay away from the yogurt. Do you think there's hidden sugar in the FAGE/greek yogurt too?

Robin - I read your man's book...well what I could on B&N. I think I'm going to go buy it today!! Sounds interesting, but I haven't had meat in almost 4 weeks so I don't know if I can make a vegetarian version of it?? I may put the dairy back in I miss it.

Fage has a lot less sugar. I found my protein powder at Nugget and Whole Foods. Vitamin World has a low carb one too. It doesn't say so on the label. You just have to compare. Mine is only 1.5 carbs per huge scoop! The brand is MRM whey powder vanilla. You'll never notice the flaxseed and it's so good for you. Look into hemp seed at your health food store. Very fine texture and full of protein. Great on your salads, wraps, on top of Italian food, soup, etc.

Fruit sugar, honey, sugar all react to your insulin the same way. Fruit has the added benefit of fiber and your diet has been really restrictive of other things. If you eat all foods across the board and too much fruit, you can gain weight. My previous point was only that if you want to enjoy fruit, you will have a much lower impact on you insulin if you eat the whole fruit than if you juice a lot of fruit, thereby concentrating the sugar into unacceptble totals.

Robin: I don't like to add water to my shakes - too thin and plain. Almond milk is thin, but richer than skim milk. I really like it!

I don't think you have rosacea. I have red capillaries too. Too much sun is awful. Of course, I did all the damage when I was 16. I had the lasering of the red veins but they didn't all go away. This new thing I had might help, she said and it won't make them any worse. Stay out of the sun! I mean cover up your face and chest while still enjoying your activities. I used that Jergens gradual tanner as my lotion and it works great. No orange and no streaks.

I just wanted to add this, Lisa. My juicing book tells you that if you are juicing/drinking fruit juices to dilute it down with water as the sugar in it is pretty high. Just read it and wanted to pass it along.

That's right, Kathy. Especially important for parents to know. Kids are becoming overweight drinking too much juice and it's bad for their teeth. Sugar is sugar and the body can't tell the difference based on the source. Juice veggies and add one apple per batch, for instance. Teach kids to eat 3 servings of real fruit instead because the fiber is important.

YAY!!! Thank you so much Lisa!

Got it. Bear with me, I'm learning :)

Did anybody watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution last night? J-P even watched it with his roommates. We were horrified at the lack of nutrition in school diets. It brought me to tears. Jamie is teaching people how to quickly make nutritiional foods within a reasonable budget. Wonderful.

Hi everyone. It's good to read you all.

I know it's always better to eat whole foods. Not always as easy or fun to stick to. Tonight there is a meditation I am going to, there's one on a Saturday once a month. So, I'm looking forward to a few hours off of schoolwork. My food has been awful today. Not usual for me, but I ran out of good foods until pay day, which isn't so unusual for me. I can't wait until I'm back working again. Anyway, must count my many, many blessings. I can't expect to plant a seed and have it grow overnight. Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday! :grouphug:

I'm working today and tomorrow so just taking a minute to say I hope you all enjoy a beautiful Spring weekend! It's gorgeous here! Except my face, which is peeling, LOL!:rotfl:

Hi everyone. I hope you are all having a great evening. It is cold here, and to get down into the 20's tonight  Just got back from a walk with Mike and Tyson. I am now settling in for the night. About ready for bed too. Did about an hour on the treadmill today. It felt really good. And I did some weights on my arms too. Then swimming for a bit (it was crowded, so not as much as I wanted) then the steam room. That really relaxed me. I just laid down on the bench and relaxed. It was so nice. I did some mental visualization of being thinner and feeling better.

Lisa, good to hear you're peeling LOL. That means you're "new skin" is now visible. I can imagine how smooth and pretty it is!!

I did research on my adrenal fatigue and realize that many of my complaints are from that. I did a test and found that I am actually in adrenal exhaustion. The next step down from that is Addison's disease! This really scares me. I have found a site (Dr. Lam) who specializes in this and found his dietary recommendations. I am going to follow his guidelines.
My nausea, gas, stomach grumbling, tingling in the fingers and feet, headaches, craving sugar and carbs, and all the other things I've been complaining about are all symptoms of this. As is the chronic fatigue and hypoglycemia. There is much reading to do on his site, so I'll be busy doing that for sure for a while. I think I will print out all the information and put into a binder so I have it handy. I feel so much better now that I know for sure what I'm dealing with. Unfortunately the medical community doesn't acknowledge adrenal fatigue until it gets to the point of Addison's disease, then I don't think you can recover from it. The damage is too great.
Ok, enough rambling. Sorry. Just so excited because this actually has a name and I know what it is!! It could take me anywhere from 6 months-2 years to recover from this. I have figured out that it all began when I was 15 and was in a very serious car accident. I was thrown through the back window. It was really bad. I was on many medications including steroids. I was in bad shape for quite a few months. I remember sleeping all the time, and even when I did get better, I was still tired. I would nap after school because I was so tired.
Ok, rambling on and on. Sorry.
I'll catch up later with everyone.

Robin - I had red spots on the right side of my face. I thought it was some kind of rash, since it sometimes felt itchy. I went to the derm and she said it was broken caps and she could burn them with a needle. I had this tiny black spot on my lip line that I thought was a blackhead and wanted her to remove it. She said that was a broken cap also and I let her burn that one. She used a needled and zapped it. It left a little white ashy spot and later fell off and the black spot was gone. The thing is, I didn't want her to zap all the spots on my cheek - too much smoke for me! :scared1: I found a facial cleansing cream by Aubrey Organics that has Sea Buckthorn in it. It is very creamy and I only use a pea-size amount. After a month the red spots on my face are gone! :thumbsup2 This is definitely worth a try for you, I think.

Welcome back Jocelyn! I hope you enjoyed your vacation.

I have a head cold. My son had it last week, now I do. I've been taking DayQuil, so I can breathe. I hate when my head feels like it weighs 100 pounds.

Kathy and Diane: I hope you are both feeling better soon. I had that needle procedure on my chest and face after J-P was born. Pushing him out burst every red blood vessel I had. I looked like I had been scratched by a cat! The laser was less painful, but you do swell from it. With both of them, the blood vessels came back on my face. I think it's from the sun and even though I wear sunscreen, I'm super sensitive to it. I have a lot less of them now that I've had the heavy duty laser. I'm pretty excited about the results. I'm still really red and peely though.

Work is exploding, so I might be scarce for a few days. I've got 5 houses closing in about a 10 day period. I think 2010 is showing signs of a turn around!

Happy Palm Sunday and lots of love to you all!
