Genie + Issues this morning? Not updating on swipe?

Right at 7, I could see RoTR come and go for 30 minutes, but never saw slinky. I thought that was odd. At about 7:25 I left the tip board and went back. There were times! But the same time was there for many swipes. I left again and came back and it updated. This seems to be a pattern. Rise was updating, but not slinky.
 
I was playing around this morning at 7 EST and did not have that issue.

I don’t know if it would make a difference but I don’t refresh by swiping. I just touch the “Tip Board” tab and that refreshes the screen.
 
Not sure what you mean. If I am already in the tip board, touching it again doesn't do anything. Swiping down I the only way I know to refresh it

I have an iPhone, and if I am on the Tip Board and touch the Tip Board tab it refreshes the screen. I have had a couple of times when the screen wouldn’t refresh, and closing and reopening the app took care of it and then I could refresh as usual.

I tried to play with the system today and ran into problems getting the Tip Board to load at all. I would get the message “Populating Tour Tip Board” (normal), then “Adding Some Magical Touches” (a problem if that’s up for more than a second or two), and finally “Something Went Wrong”. When that happens I close the app and reopen it. I did that several times with no luck, other than seeing the Tip Board but having it fail to load after one or two refreshes.

I wonder if that was just me or if others onsite had the same problem. It seems to be working normally for me now at 7:20 but if I had been onsite I woukd have been out of luck in getting in on the first crack at SDD or ROTR.

nothing like getting up at 6:30 am on vacation when parks open at 10. 🤦🏻‍♀️
 
I’m sorry for you guys who are there and experiencing this issue. Sucks to get up early every day. And then be stopped by Disney tech.

Is it an iPhone or app update thing?

Theses kind of things happened to us on our trip tooo and it was random - often crowd induced. Thanksgiving. And it was incredibly

I am not onsite, but it started working properly for me about 7:20.

Hopefully it wasn’t any worse for you and you were able to get something close to what you were shooting for.

It goes to show that between things like weather, tech issues, and ride breakdowns you always have to be mentally prepared to go to backup plans.

At least for those of us who are regular visitors the final backup is “we’ll do this next time”. I feel sorry for the one time and infrequent visitors who encounter things like this.

I just landed at MCO, but was setting up my G+ and $LL for today before takeoff, right at 7. I got my first $LL just fine, and then this happened to me as well. Got everything I was after (took about 8-10 min), but I had to shut down and reopen the app about 10 times. I sure am thankful it wasn’t a DHS day for me! I mean, something’s really screwy when you can’t get Disney to take your money for $LL.
 
Well learned something new. Most of us are Androiders, but daughter has an iPhone (apparently you have to have one if you are a student or your aren't cool ;) ) and for some reason, Disney programmed the iPhone to allow clicking on an open tab to update a screen but not on Android. Yet another short-sighted move. So I have to swipe down, which is the fastest method for me.

And yes, I was p****d again today as Genie+ was down for most of the period from 7am until 7:20. It just wouldn't update due to problems on their servers. Occasionally, RoTR would show a time, but if you clicked on it in would spin on "adding magical touches" and then give the "something went wrong". I wonder what it is like if this happens at the gate and you have 500 people all at once start screaming.

My hope is that everyone goes to their app store, gives this a 1 star rating, and writes a negative review. Could I lobby you to do at least that? In addition, those that have time should complain to a manager at Disney and write a letter/email to corporate. I think it would make a difference over time if they are inundated with complaints and requests for refunds or see Universal taking more business from them because of having to be so stressed on vacation and having to be on your phone from 7am until park close.

We may be one of those families who just switch to Universal. I've attended both parks on both coasts multiple times and am finding Universal is just better in many ways. I wonder if the generations after mine have any loyalty to Disney? I feel the only reason I am attached to them is that I grew up with the Mickey Mouse Club (Annette! Met her Mom) and was enthralled every week watching "Wonderful World of Color" and seeing Uncle Walt talk to me. Without that Magic, what is Disney? I know kids watch things on Disney Channel and have attachments to characters like in Frozen, but there is competition now with Nick on TV, Universal characters, and many other parks. I think Disney is just a memory for me of what once was and what I hoped it could still be, but the magic is gone.
 
Glad I saw this thread cause I had the same issues this morning and I'm glad to know it wasn't just me. I'm not on site now, just practicing for an upcoming trip and I was really worried when I couldn't get HS tip board to refresh today. I had a similar thing yesterday where just SDD wouldn't update at 7 am but today was much worse.

@fdecker I'm with you! I'm a passholder at Universal and if I didn't have so much money in gift cards to use at Disney I would not be going there for this trip. We had a trip planned in March 2020 and everything got refunded to Disney gift cards so we had like 3 grand tied up in gift cards. I think this is most likely our last Disney trip unless something major changes cause I know I am not looking forward to getting up so early every day on vacation.

I also had this problem this morning....also at home practicing for an upcoming trip......and I wondered then if all of us at home practicing were overwhelming the system for those poor people that were actually there trying to get lightning lanes. :oops:

We ended up getting test tract and remy which is mainly what we cared about. For reference I would not do genie + again for Epcot.

I too feel bad for those one timers. We haven’t been in years but I miss the old ways lol. Hope you have a great trip. Stay warm!!!
 
This may have nothing to do with genie+ but, I have had to constantly refresh when trying to book dinner reservations. Could it just be DW’s system for booking anything is not capable of dealing with the high usage without glitches. (sorry about terminology, not tech savvy)
 
I'm talking to Disney. I cleared the cache and reinstalled the app (Android). On my phone, but not my wife's, slinky won't update unless I leave the screen and then go back to the tip board. Swiping down updates all the other attractions. I tried no selections, just slinky, and just slinky and rise.

There have been continued problems with the app. But in fairness, it does have to run on every possible phone and sometimes it is a conflict on our phone. Hard to tell. I do see the app crash and have trouble getting information from the Disney servers. That's load usually

I was using my IPad and referring to reservations being made outside of the park. Sorry, I misread the posts.
 
Disney App Support emailed me back once, and then have not responded to me since. Only Slinky refused to update on a pull-down. I can swipe left to leave the screen, click on tip board again, and it will update. This is slower.

Today was something different. I selected just Slinky and Rise as I have been doing and this time they were reversed! They have always been in alphabetical order with "Slinky" coming before "Star Wars". But that eliminated another potential cause, which was that it might have been what held the top position in the list. But no matter where Slinky is, it will not update while everything else updates.
