Do the gas prices have an effect on anyones plan to visit Disney? I guess that would depend also on how far you need to travel to get to Disney. We hope to go in August...but we are from Long Island NY and we are having some serious thoughts about how high the gas can go and still have us go..I'm thinking if it gets near the dreaded $3.00 a gallon they are predicting we will need to cancel. Gas was $2.23 a gallon at the Mobil yesterday. I'm hoping this is the usual Memorial Day price increase and then it will come back down. I hope.

It would depend on what we're driving.

In our car, we would go through 4 tanks of gas, driving from NY. Our tank holds 15 gallons.

So, it would cost us an extra $60 each way, if gas went up $1/gallon. That much wouldn't make me cancel a trip. I would just figure out a way to cut the $120 from our budget someplace else.

But, if we're driving a motorhome, that might be a different story. It might make me look at the cost of staying at a resort instead of camping this year...

We had planned a three-night trip to FW in early June, but the gas prices and other factors encouraged us to cancel that trip and add a couple of nights to our late June-early July trip.

The gas prices now won't keep me from going to FW--ask me again if it goes up past 3 bucks a gallon!

We will be pulling our 26 foot TT....with our Ford Expedition..we went upstate(NY) last weekend to put the camper on a seasonal site(which I wasn't so sure about doing again)...and it costs us around $80.00 for gas...one way...at least comming home...we didn't have to trailer...so the $50.00 fill up lasted me at home also. I had been hesitant about doing the seasonal site again...but my son really likes it, and has other seasonal friends there(Lake George RV Park)..so we figured this would be our last season there. I'm sort of glad we went with it...as we will use the camper much more with it on site than if we were to be trailering it each weekend. It just wouldn't be worth the money in gas for just a weekend. We had plans to pull out for a couple of weeks in August for a Fort Wilderness trip...have the reservations...but we'll just have to see about the price of gas. If it nears the $3.00 mark we may have to rethink that idea.

I don't think we would ever cancel due to high gas prices. We still end up spending way less then we would for a family of 5 to fly. Plus, the cost of camping at FW compared to staying in a resort is a big savings too.
I hope you don't cancel your trip, we'll be there in Aug. too!

How many will be traveling? If you compare that to how much it would cost per person to fly vs driving and getting a hotel room vs campsite. For us we are 7 going down and I know in november it cost us $480 to drive our motor home from MA. Even if it cost double to drive, if I were to find flights and then rent 2 hotel rooms, we will still come out ahead driving.

Just another thought..........we also save alot on food by camping. If a family of 4 or 5 eat out for three meals a day, for 1 week, that can really add up! We alway eat breakfast in the camper, and on non park days, we also eat lunch at camp.
We also eat in the camper on the way there and back instead of stopping for fast food.

We would not change our plans. We enjoy FW toooooo much.

We save a lot on food, we eat in the trailer most of the time. We will have 2 teen boys with us this time and I have not heard "I'm Full" for a while now (at least on mine -- he is always on 1/2 tank, boy can he EAT and EAT and EAT!!! :earseek: ). So with two of them the cost of gas will be the cheap part of this trip.

No really we enjoy having our own "home" with us. We camp a lot local, and FW is our "big" trip. I don't know now if I could handle everyone being in one small room for very long.

We will be there this Aug also -- hope to see ya there!

I see your points about saving on the food...and the resort. Makes sense. Just that this was really an extra trip..we were planning to squeeze in. As we usually go every other year and have stayed at the WL...so we figured we visite FW with the TT as an extra...so I guess we'll just see what the finances are like for August(we have so much going on with our house right now...and nothing winds up costing what it was suppose to!)...Just don't need the gas price to put the damper on things. If it's too high we'll just wait for the regular scheduled trip in the spring. Can't help it though...can't get enough of Disney and wanted to squeeze the extra trip in! We are really looking forward to taking the trailer to FW...it was one of the reasons that got us into camping to begin with.
