Frozen Fireworks: Alaska on the Wonder July 2, 2012

Less than 2 months and we're getting excited! We booked the Yukon Expedition in Skagway and the private carriage in Victoria. It's coming together! Now I can focus on the FEs and all the little things!

"When preparing to travel, layout all your clothes, and all your money. Then take half your clothes and twice the money. :thumbsup2

That's good advice! And sorry I've been MIA for a while... will get DD to respond to Mattie's email soon!

Welcome Jchel! Glad you're joining us. Will you be in on the FE?

Oh too bad about pirate night. My kids wanted to dress up. But hey, it's one less thing to have to pack.

Wareaglegirl- My DS7 is bringing a sport coat, since we'll be taking the family Christmas card pictures on formal night. Other nights he'll be in polo shirts and khakis type of thing. He does have 2 ties he's bringing, one has guitars on it and the other skulls, crossbones, and guitars. :)

Answering the FE question: I think I'm going to give individual kids' gifts and then one per cabin for adults, that's all I know about it though and that's why I'm not the coordinator. ;)

If you need any cool weather clothing (we're in the Southwest so we don't have much) I just ordered some things from Lands End. They're having a sale on a lot of the wintry items. I got my DD's rain jackets, long sleeved shirts and vests.... I'm trying to teach them the concept of layering. ;)

That's what I typically do as well. BTW - is there a FE coordinator? I started the list but not sure if there are other duties aside from distributing that list?

Turns out DS7 is fairly excited about getting dressed up so I think we are in for ties too. He plays drums and considers himself quite the rocker, so I'll see if I can find one that fits that part of his personality. I doubt anyone would appreciate a snake tie (reptiles are his greatest passion).

Thanks for the LE info. We are in the deep south so I feel you on not having a lot of cold weather clothes. I was making a tally of children's ages for FE gift and I couldn't find yours. I'm sure I'm overlooking it; I'm not the best finder, especially if keys are involved. Can I get your rundown, DS7 for example...

FE Question: We're doing the same thing...individual gifts and 1 family gift. Do y'all usually ship these things to the ship or pack them with your luggage? We have a relatively small group compared to some of the other ones I've read about on the boards (100+), so packing is doable I guess. I'm just concerned things will get all crumpled on the flight.

Soooo Excited!!!

I have two DD's 6 and 10 (will be 11 later in July).

I've packed my FE gifts in my luggage in the past and plan to do it again. That ensures room for souvenirs on the way home. :rotfl2: We're lucky to be flying Southwest this time as we each get two free checked bags. Last time DH and I did Alaska we had a lot of luggage with all the outer wear, hiking boots, binoculars, etc. :scared1: Traveling with a lot of luggage is not my favorite thing to do.

Welcome ag73! Our cutoff is in June for the fe so you made it!
Did you book excursions?

Does anyone know if I have any chance of changing my Palo reservation once on board? I have Canada night 8pm reservations. I would really like to go to brunch on a sea day.

We went to the Med last summer and packed all of our FE things in the luggage -- it wasn't bad at all :) More room for souvenirs on the way home! :goodvibes

Fixed this on the roster on post #1 :)

Were you unable to get both dinner and brunch during the online signups? We got dinner, brunch, and tea, and we may add an additional dinner -- we love Palo :goodvibes

In the Med, we had no problem moving our reservations around once onboard, and we were first-time cruisers that trip. The ship was only ~70% full though.

Oh my goodness, I am so looking forward to this cruise after my mis-adventure on a one-night Holland America cruise from Vancouver down to Seattle. The boat was delayed in getting into Vancouver by about 9 hours, and we didn't start boarding until 7pm. One can't complain that the ship was late because of rough waters--safety must always be first! But one can complain on how the rest of the night is handled re. food and sanitation. Oh man, am I looking forward to Disney.

Travelbee - We live in Auburn so we are surrounded by it. I try to wear something with Auburn on it everywhere we go, and honestly, I can't remember a single trip we've ever been on anywhere in the world where we didn't get a "War Eagle" from some one - there's always a connection. Tell your friends Orange and Blue will be well represented. I've made a special AU Mickey magnet for our door. :cheer2:

WarEagleGirl - our friends graduated from Auburn so they are die hard fans. I don't follow college football (NFL kind of gal) but I was impressed with Cam Newton last year!

I noticed there's a new sign-up for the FE but I have not seen this person posted on this thread before. Anyone know who Aliceinwonder is?

Nop... I'm having problems with the DCL website trying to get to port adventures. Any advise and recommendation to non DCL excursion will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.:goodvibes
