Frozen Fireworks: Alaska on the Wonder July 2, 2012

I will be traveling with DH (Jack), DD 16 (Skylar), DD 10/11 (Calla), DS 5 (Casey)

Hi Kathy,

This is a family curise, with our DS (Jason), DDIL (Michelle), our DGS 11 and DGD 8. This will be our first Disney cruise with the grands. We took our sons 20 years ago on "The Big Red Boat". We're planning on doing everything they want to do and booked a couple of excursions.

Welcome,

Barb (Liblady)

Ame, I was just rereading our thread (i am proctoring tests all week) and noticed you are going to see the King Tut exhibit. It is awesome! Dd & I saw it over spring break in Houston. You should definitly get the audio tour to go with it. We spent nearly 3 hours inside, but dd was also writing a school report on Egypt at the same time.

Have a great time.

We are me, DH, DD (10/11 in July) and DD (6). Couldn't pass up the IGT deal  and will be praying that we can upgrade at the port. This will be our first time on the Wonder. We did the Magic twice last year, a NYE double dip and Mediterranean and now we're hooked.

DH and I did an Alaska cruise three years ago and it was amazing. The short port times in Juneau and Ketchikan are driving me a bit crazy trying to fit in everything we want to do....

Welcome Sara. While you were on the Magic for NYE we were on the Wonder ;) .

Our daughter is 10 and it will be great having lots of girls about the same age. Will she want to do the Edge or the Lab?

Hi Amy, my DS is an animal lover so I wasn't sure if he'd be keen for it but when I broached the topic he jumped at it and was so excited!! So glad to hear that it will be worthwhile. I've already booked tickets including the audio tour and imax. I was keen to book it so that we have something to make us get up on Sunday morning :)

We wake up on Saturday morning in Australia for DS to have swimming squad at 0630. Our plane leaves at around 1PM and arrives at LAX at 1030AM still on Saturday but 14 hours later! We'll then change terminals and catch two planes via SFO to arrive in Seattle at around 6 or 7PM. So we're going to be exhausted by the time we get to Seattle about 30 hours after waking up at home! We're booked at the Sheraton in a club room, so guaranteed high floor and comfy beds!!! Having booked the first slot will make sure that we rise from our slumber and sleepwalk up to the Science center. We'll still be tired that day but by the next day, voila! no jetlag :yay:

Looks like lots of 9/10 yo girls, but not boys. I told DS that there were lots of girls and he was like "so?" :rolleyes1 Ahhh the innocence of the young. He's my baby boy and also young for his age. I hope his wide eyed innocence lasts a lot longer than his eldest brother!

Does anyone know which night Pirate Night will be?

Some other posters have said that it appears on my cruise activities. On mine it only has the sail away party listed (& my excursions). Wonder if they're not having it?? I'm not fussed as long as they keep the dessert buffet :cheer2:

Hello All

We are all signed up, DH (Warren), and DS (Axl 7), and I (Tonya). This is our first Disney cruise and only our 2nd of any kind, as I said I would never do it again after sailing pregnant with DS. But, Alaska is a dream so Mickey prevails. Yay Mickey!

Welcome Tonya. Hope that this cruise has smoother sailing than your last. :goodvibes

Shoreside concierge told us their best guess is that it is Day 5, Juneau day. That matches what I have read on other posts. But they say it is always subject to change.

Welcome Tonya! We also have a DS7 coming along. I too get worried about seasickness, everytime seems to be worse than the last.

Welcome Sara! What is an IGT deal? I have a DD5 coming along.

Ame - we too are at the Sheraton, club level. I think Liblady is too? DS7 (going on 16) will be with us and we'll probably go in the pool that night if your DS would like to join the fun.

Thanks doingitagain, at least that gives me some sort of idea. The kiddies are bringing pirate costumes.

.

Sounds like the club level is the place to be! My DS does have plans for the pool :) Hopefully he'll have enough energy for it as I don't think he'll be in the pool in Alaska!!

Hey.. the IGT deal, is a reduced rate Inside room and you are not able to pick your stateroom, DCL does it for you. Could be a Cat 11 or Cat 10. Since we were trying to get some additional family to go, I looked at the pricing for 2A1C $3130. (Plus there is a more harsh penalty when cancelling then other rates).
As compared to $4130 for 11c or $5200 for a 9B.

Thanks for the welcome! My DD is definitely planning on Edge. She didn't spend much time in the Lab on our Med cruise. On the NYE cruise she had her cousin with her so the had fun in the Lab together. I'm not sure I'm thrilled. I'd rather have her in the Lab with a Mickey band. I've already told her that she will not be able to leave the Edge without talking to us first.

From what I've read, they do allow you to upgrade at the port if available (additional fee of course). That's what we're crossing our fingers for..... I want at least a port hole. Hopefully it will work out but if not it won't ruin our trip.

The IGT is very restricted. No refunds, no name changes, no moving cruise dates.

Sara -Thanks for listing the restrictions. It certainly makes Alaska more affordable for some. I would consider it. I think any one can upgrade at port if there are rooms available. We did it one of our cruises... We had booked a cat 12 (now 11c) and were given a cat 9 on deck 2. When we checked in we upgraded to cat 6 on deck 6 for an amazing price.

No idea, but I am planning to eat elsewhere that night. I hated the pirate menu on our MR cruise. As a vegetarian there is only one or two options so if I don'tlike one dish and the other I've had in the past and was poorly prepared, then I'll skip. I didn't like the hard sell on the cups/drinks that night and will happily settle for a vegie burger, fries and some fresh fruit that night. Then we'll have plenty of room for the dessert buffet. :thumbsup2

From what I read, the pirate night menu has been replaced with Taste of Alaska.

Welcome everyone who has recently joined us! I've updated the roster in post 1 with the new additions -- if anyone has changes, or if I inadvertently missed someone, please post so I can update.

Newbie question here. I understand the pirate themed diner and evening on Caribbean cruise and that pirates don't make as much sense in Alaska. Am I reading correctly that we still have a pirate night with pirate themed activities but the food is Alaska based?

Does this mean I need to change my Carribean pirate gear for fur trader or prospector costumes?:rotfl: hee hee hee
